Color Run

Has anybody done a Color Run? Children's Health Care of Atlanta did one today and they are hysterically funny. You start out the run in a white T-shirt and as you get to certain points in the race, people spray you with powdery but sticky colors and then at the end, you're sprayed with this incredible rainbow of color. There are pictures on FB of clouds of colors going up in the air at the end.

There's no place nearby to wash off so 10,000 people have left the site in various hues--Ballerina is at least half purple.:D

Sounds like Holi!

I'm doing Color Run part 2 next weekend in Atlanta - it looks like it will be a blast!

WCsweet<3 03-31-2012 02:20 PM

I am going to do the Portland one in September. Just waiting for registration to open!

DreamfulSpirit 03-31-2012 02:39 PM

A bunch of my OPA sisters did it in Atlanta today and some more are doing it next weekend!

carnation 03-31-2012 03:05 PM

Wow! I just saw the finish line pictures and Ballerina and the Baby Berry Cousins look like Easter eggs!

amIblue? 03-31-2012 03:09 PM

Sounds like lots of fun!

My daughter ran in Atlanta today to celebrate a friend's 21st birthday. She said she had a blast and the pictures were hilarious!

I found this promotional video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWsfHC-0d6A

Looks like fun, but the neat freak in my was also cringing!

I would totally freak out by that!

But my 19 year old self would have loved it!

PS: when I saw the title of the thread, I thought of madras...

AGDee 04-02-2012 12:28 AM

I thought of laundry, when you wash something red with the lights and the color runs all over everything :)

That's what I thought the topic was. :o

carnation 04-02-2012 07:10 AM

I did too, when Ballerina said that they were doing that run! Honeychile, omigosh, madras! It was a huge big deal to have it with the colors properly run!

AnchorAlumna 04-02-2012 12:20 PM

Looks pretty, but all I can think is how do you keep it out of your eyes and mouth? Is it food grade stuff? I would guess you'd wear clothes that you'd throw away.

DoctorD 04-02-2012 06:50 PM

I've purchased swim goggles to wear during the run, and am going to have a bandana over my nose and mouth.

I seriously cannot wait!

Xidelt 04-02-2012 11:30 PM

The website says it's food grade cornstarch. To me, it looks like ground up sidewalk chalk.

DubaiSis 04-03-2012 05:16 AM

AnchorAlumna, the website goes into all that. You CAN eat it but they say it's not tasty and is remarkably high in calories. I think they said it's basically food colored corn starch. They also give instructions on how to make the color stick permanently to your clothes if you want.

There's a Color Run in Irvine the weekend after we arrive there so I hope to see it. They sold out, added another start time and sold out on that one as well! Apparently this is a hot activity for people.

PhoenixAzul 04-11-2012 01:36 PM

I'm doing it in Columbus in July with some of my TD sisters. Super excited!

soulfulremix 07-30-2012 12:46 AM

I'm doing the NJ race. NYC is sold out. :(

PM_Mama00 07-30-2012 07:28 AM

A bunch of my sisters did it and had trouble washing the colors out, specifically pink. It looked really cool though. How do you get to be one of the color people?

Find out which organization is sponsoring it and contact them to volunteer. All events need lots of good volunteers!

CutiePie2000 08-01-2012 02:54 AM

I am doing the Vancouver one on August 18th, but only because I got a free entry through my running store. It looks like fun.

agzg 08-01-2012 12:34 PM

The Chicago color run was earlier this summer. A bunch of gals from my JC did it and the pictures were awesome.

allionna 08-01-2012 01:33 PM

I just did the Color Run in New England with a friend of mine this past weekend. It was a lot of fun. Some of the colors took a few days to get rid of though.

lunalovegood 08-15-2012 09:00 PM

My chapter made a team and we're doing a Color Me Rad race together this fall! We're going to put tape on our shirts in the shape of our letters and then rip off the tape at the end! :)

Also it's my first ever race so I'm super excited!

CubbieBlue 08-15-2012 10:38 PM

I did the Columbus one. I accidentally inhaled the blue powder. Hold your breath in the color zones!

I ended up skipping it. It was a hot day and I didn't feel like doing it on a Saturday, when I knew I had a 16 mile run on Sunday as part of my marathon clinic. :)

KKGCaroline 06-12-2013 01:36 PM

I know this thread is a little old, but Color Run is finally coming to the UK, DH & I, along with a bunch of friends are taking part, cannot wait for some messy fun!

misscherrypie 06-12-2013 01:54 PM

A few of my sisters did the Run or Dye 5K a few weeks back and loved every minute of it.

There's Color Me Rad coming in the Fall....I'll try that.

PM_Mama00 06-12-2013 10:32 PM

I never thought I could walk 3.1 miles but I signed up for my local Color Run. I made it up to 2.5 on the treadmill so I knew I could do it. After the training I did, I slipped on our ceramic tile while getting ready that morning and broke my toe. I still went with my friends and walked from the car to the finish line (which was right by the start), and slowly walked to the blue section which was the last color. I sat and watched everyone and then met up with my friends. I was so bummed but still got some color.

Color Me Rad was held the same day downtown Detroit (ours was on EMU's campus) and now Run or Dye is coming up in August and I'm debating walking that.

There's also (for next year) the Ferndale Color Run in June every year which kicks off Ferndale Pride! Not sure if that's the run you're talking about or not. I didn't know there were other ones in the area.

How funny, I've just done the same thing today, I have a hairline fracture on my big toe. Color Run is in 4 weeks so hopefully I'll be ok! DH is making fun of my shuffling about though!

lovespink88 06-13-2013 06:20 PM

Heh, so Mr. LP is a runner and was doing as many races as possible. He signed up for this and was feeling good that day...he won!...only to find out it was a fun run and not timed, womp womp.
