The only problem? She misspelled his name.

The formal statement read:

We deeply regret the remarks made by a few students at today’s game. The words of these individuals do not represent the sentiments of our pep band, athletic department or university. We apologize to Mr. Rodriquez and will take quick and appropriate disciplinary action against the students involved in this isolated incident.

There are so many dumb comments in the comments section.

For what it's worth, I commonly see people use q in place of g (couldn't say whether it was intentional in those cases) and I don't think a typo takes away from the sincerity.

As for the comments, keyboard courage and stupidity FTW!

Mississippi's #1 most valuable export has always been brains. For reference, check the list of notable Mississippians on Wikipedia. Maybe one day it will change.

No, the insincerity takes away from the sincerity.

I tried to read the comments, but I was afraid I might get dumber as a result.

IMO ~~ This is just a case of some media guy making a big deal out of nothing.(Spelling of Name)

I personally know people named Rodrigues & Rodriques. I can tell you all of them are not offended by others interchanging the Q & G. I almost always spell it with a G because the first families I knew spelt it that way. It comes down to how their families adapted the name generations ago (I asked). They know there are two spellings. Not a BIG Deal.

Not every mole hill needs to be made into a Mountain.

The only issue was the inappropriate behavior of the students - which the President swiftly addressed.

While it may not be specifically relevant to the article, this is Greek Chat. GLO affiliations are noted often in comments and replies.

Seriously, though, GreekChat refers to the membership, not necessarily every topic. It's not impossible to have a conversation without bringing up Greek facts.

She can talk about whatever she wants to, but I still don't see how that tidbit was relevant.

I get that Greeks are proud of their organizations and want to stand by their brothers/sisters. Still if some public figure belonged to an organization in which I also held membership and this occured, while it wouldn't affect my pride in the organization, it would affect my opinion of a fellow member, so I guess I don't understand pointing out his/her connection to said organization - even if it were relevant.

NutBrnHair 03-16-2012 11:05 PM

That is all.

Thank you -- I thought it might be of interest on a Greek Chat board.
