Presuming you didn't add the caveats at the end, I like that there is no pretense about recs being or not being required. They are, and here's info about them. That's great.

It'll be a long week, but glad we get to knock it out in one this year, instead of drawn out in two like this past fall.

Does the Panhellenic President's welcome really include "...being apart of a ..."
I admit to judging people by their use of grammar and punctuation, while trying to focus on the underlying message. Still, in a professional product???? |

There are multiple errors in the booklets. Several founding dates are incorrect (Pi Beta Phi, Phi Mu), and a lot of grammar/spelling errors. (Fluer de lis anyone?)
|
They also spelled Farrah wrong, yo. Ryan O'Neal's going to open a can of whoopass on them.
Although calling this a "professional" product in any way shape or form is a stretch. |
Early Registration ends 6/30/12, and the last day to register is 7/15/12 for 2012 formal recruitment.

Does anyone know how many girls have signed up for formal recruitment? I know that 1,500 is the number that everyone is tossing around.
|
As of last week I had heard we were between 1000-1100...but we've still got a week and a half to go. I honestly don't think we'll hit anywhere close to 1500. My guess would be close to 1200 (fingers crossed this doesn't blow up in my face in the next week).
|
I spoke too soon...got word we hit 1200 early this week so I have no idea where we are now.

IFC
Hi,
Could someone please explain to me how IFC fraternity recruitment will be conducted in the fall, specifically for the new chapters? My main question is, do I need to register with greek? Also, would their rush be formal like the other established chapters? Help - I have emailed both of the new fraternities and have received no response. |
You will be better off contacting the GLO via phone or email if you are interested in the colonizing chapters; but I would encourage you to participate in formal recruitment first. I assume they will run a similar system as NPC by participating in the first round of recruitment and then dropping out until formal recruitment is over. The weeks after I would guess they will hold social events/interviews to determine their founding class. One of the advantages of attending Arkansas is that they hold formal recruitment, so even if you don't know anyone going in you still have a chance to receive a bid from a chapter. That being IFC sets their own quotas so compared to NPC numbers their retention rates are much lower at the completion of recruitment. The average chapter took 45-60 last year; and I remember hearing something crazy like over 40% of men who participated were released. Colonization and spring recruitment are always strong options to pursue if formal recruitment does not end up how you would like it to.

Thank you for responding so quickly! I have one more quick question... What are the advantages of becoming a Found Father of a Chapter? None of my parents or siblings were involved in greek like, so I'm very torn between rushing an established chapter or going the Founding Father route... What are your thoughts? |
Quote:
There are definitely advantages to both. First off I wouldn't let the fact that you have no one in your family who is Greek discourage you. While legacies are very big in the south, especially at SEC school, it does not have to dictate your recruitment process. For a colony the advantages to most would be the ability to have a lasting impact on your chapter. You do get the honor to call yourself an original member, although to me that isn't that important since it is simply a title. The real advantage to many is having the opportunity to pursue leadership roles right off the bat, versus waiting a year or two. At the same time, colonies require more work and responsibility by the individual members. You also have to deal with the "new guys" label which can be hard to break through until you have been around for a while. Colonies will not have there own houses immediately. This can be a serious drawback for some. Established chapters at Arkansas enjoy the luxury of being some of the largest chapters in the nation. The majority of them have established traditions recognized by the entire campus (LXA Watermelon Bust, EX Derby Days, specific functions, etc). Although no one fraternity/sorority has to live up to their stereotype on campus, many at Arkansas have a hard time breaking away from them. It's not uncommon for certain chapters to hold the majority of their functions with one another. I definitely think it has gotten better over the years, but it still exists and unfortunately a lot of people buy into and proliferate the stereotypes. My advice for you would be to go through formal recruitment and decide for yourself it is right for you. You can always drop out if you decide to pursue the colonization process, but at least you wouldn't have any regrets about not pursuing an established chapter. Good luck with recruitment! Woo pig!!! |
Great replies, hooty hoo! Good luck, woopig!!

Numbers for sorority recruitment should be posted on the facebook page by the end of the night. They said it is less than 1,800, but more than 1,100! I'm excited to finally know!
EDIT: Well, they decided to wait until 11 am to release it. Oh, the suspense! |
The official number for sorority recruitment is 1387! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Univer...36698696356260

Do they post Bid Lists at this campus? |
XO got 152.

KD gave bids to 153!! No, they have not posted bid lists in the past. Some individual chapters post them to fb and their webpages.

Where does that put the average chapter size there? 400? |
I would assume so. KD is pretty close to 400 with this pledge class.

Any info on how many girls dropped? I'm wondering how many girls are available for the 2 colonies.

There may be women who didn't bother with formal recruitment because they wanted to be in a colony. Also, as you noted, there will be women from all classes joining the colonies. I wouldn't assume that the only women interested in the colonies are the women who dropped out of recruitment. In fact, some of those women may not be interested in the colonies, if they dropped out because their "OMG I must be in ___" chapter dropped them.
