TNAuburnMom 06-30-2012 12:26 PM

I hate that Bid Day is on a Monday. That's the first full day of school for us so I won't be able to go down IF my daughter gets a bid :-( From what I have read, it must be quite the sight to see.

Gingerdeltaz 06-30-2012 12:46 PM

I just wrote a rec for a wonderful young lady going to Auburn in the fall. She seems like the kind of woman that will be an incredible asset to any of the sororities at Auburn...wishing her the best during recruitment!

carnation 06-30-2012 01:05 PM

WARRRRR EAGLE!!!!

rahAU5 07-02-2012 12:12 PM

TNAuburnMom, I concur...I am sad that I may not be able to be in Auburn on Bid Day if my daughter gets a bid as well. :(

I'm trying to decide if I want to make the trip twice in one week. Second time would be solo unless I can find another AU mom in this area who wants to go with me. If not, my son will be there and he knows that as soon as bids are handed out (assuming a favorable end to recruitment), he's to go straight to Tiger Surprise for some goodies!

Socalparent 07-02-2012 01:25 PM

I'm reading that schedule, thinking about the Alabama heat and humidity, and I'm exhausted. Recruitment not for the faint of heart.

wareagle93 07-02-2012 01:37 PM

Good luck to all the girls that will be going through recruitment! I hope those of you on GC that have daughters going through recruitment will be able to keep us updated with recruitment stories and such. They were a blast to read last year!

thetalady 07-02-2012 01:44 PM

I know it is hot, but I can't imagine rush parties at 8 A.M.!! Lord save me, I have ever been at my best at that time of day. I worked that schedule hard, but I got through my entire 4 yr college career with only ONE 8 am class. :)

If my daughter gets a bid, he may have to make pick up some goodies for me too.

carnation 07-02-2012 02:55 PM

Does anyone know the name of that store that has all the Greek presents upstairs? I was there maybe 5 years ago and loved it! It's near Toomer's Corner.

barbino 07-02-2012 03:05 PM

Having 8AM rush parties is pretty brutal. However, in that heat the morning parties will be much cooler than the pm ones.

At least the pref parties are not too early (they start at 11:30). I hate the idea of an early morning pref party. :)

ACDPhiE 07-02-2012 03:21 PM

Good luck to all of the ladies participating in rush! I will be moving to Auburn this summer and can't wait to observe the "show"!

Would that be Heartstrings?

pam713 07-02-2012 03:30 PM

The name of that store is Wrapsody. It's one of my very favorite places in Auburn!

Good luck to all of the moms! Keep your phones handy, I spent a lot of time that week checking for text messages.

As far as bid day, it's fun but you really only get to spend about an hour with your daughter in the chapter room. I think all of the chapters will assign a bid day buddy to each new pledge, so girls without family won't really feel left out. Also each chapter provides a really nice goodie bag for the pledges so they will have lots of swag even if you don't send something.

I can't believe this is my daughter's last formal recruitment as an active!

I'm sure he'll be happy to.

When I was a freshman my parents sent me my myself to move into the dorms and go through recruitment and they came up at the end of the week for Bid Day. And we only lived about 3 hours away in Mobile, AL. I don't know if I could miss my (hypothetical) child's first move into the dorm.

Also if you can't be there on Bid Day but you want to get your daughter a Bid Day gift, several of the boutiques in Auburn will put together baskets to be delivered to your daughter on Bid Day. They usually advertise in the Recruitment handbook and can be pre-ordered. They take a copy of the Bid List to make sure each new member is matched with the right swag on Bid Day.

TNAuburnMom 07-03-2012 08:28 PM

I've seen guidelines for the 7th-13th but what do girls usually wear on the 6th for orientation?

greekdee 07-03-2012 08:58 PM

I, too, just sent a rec off for an Auburn-bound girl. She will be a great asset to the Greek community and I wish her the absolute best. As for it being something to see, one of my friends went down for her daughter's bid day in 2010 -- the FB pictures she posted were great! Looked to be quite the event. :)

I believe that there were photos on here a couple of years ago showing PNMs waiting outside for their recruitment orientation to begin. Their outfits ran the gamut-girls is casual shorts and t-shirts, girls in cute shorts and tops, girls in sundresses, etc. They emphasize that the sorority members(except for Rho Gammas and Panhellenic Exec.) will not be in attendance, so that the PNMs should dress comfortably.

rahAU5 07-05-2012 09:33 AM

Move-In is one month from today! Wow! As much as I think we have everything together and ready to go .... I can make a list of 50 more things to do or prepare! :0

AuburnMom85 07-08-2012 11:00 PM

Good luck! Maybe we are getting our ridiculously hot weather out of the way early. I doubt it....but one can dream!

This will be my daughter's first year on the other side. Her first year was great and she has made so many wonderful friends!

I can tell you that orientation event was the first time in my life that I felt like I wasn't pretty enough. I never thought I was a beauty queen, but I could hold my own. Until I got in a room with 800 women who all looked like beauty queens.

I would recommend a rushee go into orientation dressed supercute casual for that event, just so she can feel as good about herself as possible, but not because she is actually being scrutinized.

I think y'all are confusing two events for one: The night before rush starts is when you go meet your Pi Chi and everyone that is in your group and most people go in norts and t-shirts or regular shorts and tops. The morning that rush starts theres convocation for all of the PNMs and that's when the Pi Chi's and Panhallenic EXEC and the Presidents are all there. Thats the one that the girls should be dressed to the nine's with hair and makeup done because parties start 30 minutes late.

honorgal 07-14-2012 11:52 PM

Three weeks from today we'll be in Auburn to move our daughter into her dorm bright and early (7 a.m.!) the following morning. And then she'll start rush.. Hoping and praying that she has a great recruitment and finds her perfect fit.

She is the baby of the family and it's hitting me harder than I ever dreamed it would.

wareagle 07-21-2012 01:07 AM

I am not going through recruitment again, but good luck to all Auburn PNMs! :) I don't know how many of you will keep up with this thread during recruitment, but if you find yourself without a bid then feel free to message me! I was not in a sorority, but I was incredibly involved during my freshman year and I would love to tell you how to get involved on campus if a GLO isn't an option for you!

TNAuburnMom 07-22-2012 02:56 PM

Two weeks until Move-In Day.

rahAU5 07-24-2012 11:54 AM

I wonder how many girls have signed up for recruitment at Auburn this year?

AUAZD2001 07-27-2012 03:15 PM

Auburn's Recruitment Handbook is now available online.

Also Panhellenic has announced this year's bid distribution location.

One of my sources says 1,200, but said they added a bunch last week.
I've looked, and can't find the definition of "bunch." Maybe more than a "few" but less than a "pile."

TNAuburnMom 07-29-2012 01:08 AM

Move in is one week from today.

TNAuburnMom 08-03-2012 12:23 AM

Does anyone have any idea how many young ladies are participating?

AUAZD2001 08-03-2012 04:48 AM

Recruitment at Auburn is so close the entire week is within the 10-day weather forecast!

Temperatures look reasonable for August in Alabama with the highest daily high only at 91°, though it is still early and that could change. But it looks like a high probability for storms each day.

ljnole 08-03-2012 10:09 AM

I have a daughter going through recruitment next week at Auburn. I also have a daughter who is a member of a sorority at Auburn. The second daughter is of course interested in her sister's sorority but would also like to make her own choice. Just wondering how the other sororities view in-house legacies? Will it hurt her chances in other sororities?

phimusam 08-04-2012 07:56 PM

Going through rush with sister in another sorority

It can hurt in other sororities. Or not. Or it can help if they want to show they can steal her. Or it might make no difference. She might want to have a pat answer, if asked, like, "I love my sister, but my aunt <probably not mother, SS teacher, next door neighbor> tells me I need to find the place where I fit."
