Alpha Xi's at your campus

Alright, Since we are all talking about the different chapters of our own GLO's on our campuses, I'd like to know how mine is doing out there!!! And since I have been honest and posted my opinions about some of yours, you should be able to do the same to me.

So how is Alpha Xi Delta on your campus?

They kick a$$, I wouldn't mind rushing AZ next semester at all.

I have a split vote on the AZD's on my campus. I like a lot of the sisters individually, I just don't really like them as a whole chapter. Personally, I don't think they exemplify sisterhood, but that's not to say that they are mean, hateful, or snooty girls - because that's not it. I just don't think they respect their chapter/sisters...when I was a Rho Chi, the AZD girls (I loved all four of them) were always talking about how their sisterhood had gone down the drain. However, they always do well in Recruitment and kept their numbers up so they must be doing something right.

LexiKD 12-03-2001 04:16 PM

When I was in school, AZD was always the fun girls.

It doesn't hurt that they also have the only sorority house within the area with all the Fratrenity houses, next to KA, Theta Chi, Sigma Nu, Kappa Sig, and Delta Sig!

Coming from a bias male, marrying an AXiD: They pretty much rule on our campus.

xp2k 12-03-2001 06:45 PM

At my school they are "lower-middle house". One of my best friends is an AXiD but for the most part I dont like their house. They have a beautiful chapter house but a so so repuation. I hear that their sisterhood is a little weak, part of the reason being that they have no live out policy. Either you live in or deactivate! Also, because we are so close to their national headquarters, nationals is EXTREMLY strict on what they can and cannot do.

I guess that their house is so big, that they have to take girls of "lesser quality" to break even at operating costs. This hurts their reputation and since they are known (as a close third behind Kappa Delta and Alpha Omicron Pi) as being REALLY BAD social climbers, that doesnt help.

They have cute girls, just bad attitudes.

DukeBlue 12-03-2001 07:13 PM

There's not a chapter of AXiD here, but one of my best friends in the world and a woman I admire immensely is an AXiD from Rochester Institute of Technology...she goes to Michigan State now but is still in close touch with all of her sisters. I can't say enough good things about Aimee.

IowaHawkeye 12-03-2001 07:15 PM

Through Dance Marathon and classes I've been able to meet a lot of AXiD's and these are some of the nicest and funnies girls I've met - they have big hearts and it shows... but...

As a group, theyre struggling on campus. they haven't made quota in a few years... i think they have something like 40 sisters when campus total is 120. They are always trying to gain PNM's - they have socials and informal rush events all of the time, and I would love to see them return to prominence on campus - they used to be a top chapter in the 70's and 80's an advisor told us.

But no matter what, they've always been proud of their sisterhood ~ and they should be!

kristiAZD 12-04-2001 07:48 AM

AZD's!!

Well, obviously I am one and I am going to say good things about our chapter, but I wouldn't even post anything if it weren't true. I go to a small school, so the sororities here are small, but ours is the biggest with around 45. We have made total and quota for the past I don't know how long, but it isn't because we take everyone under the sun. We're a great mix of different people and I think that's what makes us so appealing. The reason I went Xi at my campus was because I knew I wouldn't have to be fake; these girls were totally accepting of me for who I was. Because we're small we have an advantage that we're really close. I couldn't imagine being anywhere else. We're all really involved in activites at school which gives us added visibility. I think if you asked people who knew our chapter they would say two things: that we're really fun and that we're well-respected on campus. I love being an AZD!!:D

The Alpha Xi's are a top group on our campus. I'm friends with almost every one of them, so I have a good opinion of their chapter! They consistently get Quota and always bid to total once seniors graduate. They have the highest GPA of any AXiD chapter nationally, so obviously, they are smart girls. Not to say they are unsocial; I always see them out and about! Their only problem lies in that everyone on campus can see that there is a division within them...there are the smart, pretty, classy ones....then their are the pretty, pot-head ones that don't do too much with the chapter. Overall, a really great group of girls who have their stuff together!

dzsaigirl 12-04-2001 10:46 AM

Just like AOTT, I had never heard of Alpha Xi until I came to Greekchat.

PKTSU01 12-04-2001 11:17 AM

:) Another good SU chapter, AXiD has won the Hilton cup (top sorority of the year) for the past two years, and seems to be making a bid fora three peat.

Betarulz! 12-04-2001 12:46 PM

AZD's here are a sort of interesting bunch. They have some of THE absolute hottest girls in their house, but also some at the other end of the spectrum. Actually that's pretty much the split at their house - youre either hot or youre not, no where in between. For this they get ripped on alot as being an ugly house but they are some of the nicest, if not the nicest girls on campus. Also, I guess that they have a very small social budget so they don't do a whole lot of big parties, like maybe only 2 per semester. But i guess the money not spent on social is put into philanthropy b/c for our 1st annual Beta Bash (an auction, where the sororities bid on getting to have a masquerade ball with us. Also the top three bidders got dinner served to them by us during the week preceding the ball.)anyway AZD were the only house to meet our minimum bid for getting dinner so we were really really impressed.

UMgirl 12-04-2001 02:58 PM

AZD is no longer at UM. When they were there, they were a nice group of girls but for some reason they just couldnt recruit many people and folded. The remaining ones still got together and did AZD stuff though. If you want to get on the social side they would have been considered bottom tier.

Leslie, I worked with an AZD from Easterm at Charley's, you probably know her.

AOPiLaLa 12-04-2001 03:37 PM

The AxiD's at Elon are GREAT!! They are tons of fun, have a VERY strong sisterhood, and happen to include at least 6 of my best friends. They have consistantly great recruitments, are well liked by all the frats, and are also known as the party girls(in a good way!). I would probaley been an AZD at Elon, if not for AOTT

LionsNLadybugs 12-05-2001 03:12 AM

Alpha Xi Delta has a lot of very sweet, down-to-earth girls but I have heard a few derogatory names thrown in their direction when referring to their appearence as a whole. I have nothing against them though, and their sisterhood appears to be a stong one. They usually do alright in rush... for example, this year they were only two short of meeting quota, but halfway through the new member period about half of the girls depledged. Although they are not considered one of the "elite" here, and I don't think they are the guy's preference either(having heard several comments from fraternity guys here), overall they are considered a fun house.

alphaxidelta12 12-05-2001 04:19 AM

yeah! azd!!!

okay...its obvious i am going to be bias because i am an alpha xi, but i love being one! the alpha xi's on our campus are very down to earth. we aren't fake and we don't put on a show to impress everyone and make them think we are perfect and wonderful. we are a group of individuals that be ourselves and have fun doing it! we are a very diverse chapter, but i think that is one of the things that makes us great! our chapter gets along great with the fraternaties and we are very social. we threw one of the best parties our college has ever seen :D (well in my time being here anyways). i love being a xi!!!!!!!!

MuAZD 12-07-2001 03:51 PM

I love being AXiD. Our chapter at Millersville is very strong and we most often make our quota. We've raised the most money for our charity (Make A Wish Foundation) during Homecoming the past few years. Although it can get costly, which probably has more to do with being National than just being AXiD, I wouldn't give up my sisters for anything!

AchtungBaby80 12-08-2001 08:11 PM

The AZD chapter at my school closed last year, but this fall they reorgaized and got about fifty or sixty pledges, I think. So they're off to a good start! I didn't know anyone from the previous group, though, and none of my sisters did either so I can't really say how they were regarded on campus.

RockChalk 02-08-2002 05:37 PM

The AZD chapter at my school closed 3 years ago, after recolonizing in 1992.

aephi77 02-08-2002 06:23 PM

They used to be ok when i rushed in 98 but now they are one of the top sororities at University of Hartford. They definalty have taken some really cool girls during the last few rushes when I was there. And they have a really good looking chapter, are mostly blondes!!

FuzzieAlum 02-08-2002 06:35 PM

Well, my chapter just closed and is going to be recolonized next year. I know at CSUN they got THE largest pledge class of anyone in the fall. At UDub I've met a lot of them and they're very sweet girls, but I don't know enough about the campus to say how they rank.

I hope we recolonize at Michigan, 'cause that's one of my top grad school choices!

ErikaXO 02-08-2002 06:44 PM

One of my closest friends was an AXiD so I have a soft spot for them. When I was in school they were smack in the middle.....the were a real mix of girls. They weren't one of the top tier chapters but they weren't considered "bad" or bottom tier either....they kind of stood alone. They were very down to earth, fun, party-type girls who didn't really care what everyone thought.....they were real. My friend fit in perfectly and I know she was pretty happy there. Nowadays they seem to be attracting a different kind of girl....I don't know if they are as nice and laid back as they were, but the girls I have seen walking around in letters are VERY cute/pretty type girls.

satellitegrl 02-08-2002 07:31 PM

---biased big time---

The AZDs at my school is certainly the powerhouse out of the three soroities. They are popular with everyone: the six frats, the other two sororites, and even non-greeks. Probably because they are everything a good sisterhood should be: outgoing, social, sweet, (moderately) crazy, and have lots of spirt. And it helps with being the cutest :p

Peaches-n-Cream 02-08-2002 09:52 PM

At Binghamton ten years ago, AZD was one of the top sorority choices of the rushees. They were extremely attractive, bright, and involved on campus. From what I recall, they always made quota and total. I don't know if that has changed over the past decade.

ADPiSweety 02-12-2002 02:36 PM

AZD's at UNLV are all pretty nice, but some can be really rude. They make up a big portion of our panhellenic council here and sometimes I find that they make decisions solely on what they want for their chapter. But yes, overall they are a great group of girls.
