How many National Conventions of your GLO have you attended?

I've attended 14, beginning in 1982.

Senusret I 02-21-2012 03:20 PM

I've attended four Alpha Phi Omega national conventions and three Alpha Phi Alpha national gatherings (two general conventions and the centennial convention).

AZ-AlphaXi 02-21-2012 03:53 PM

I've attended 17 Alpha Xi Delta National Conventions, beginning in 1978

Psi U MC Vito 02-21-2012 05:34 PM

Only one. It's expensive, especially when they choose to have them in the middle of nowhere.

Mevara 02-21-2012 05:36 PM

I am going to my first this June!! So excited!!

clarinette 02-21-2012 05:53 PM

We only send one delegate from each chapter to National Convention, and I wasn't a member the last time we had it (it's every three years). We'll send someone this year, but we haven't picked who yet.

AGDLynn 02-21-2012 05:58 PM

AGD is having Convention this summer in St. Louis but I won't be able to go because HOPEFULLY, we will be moving.

I am HOPING that the next one will be in Atlanta. (Hint, hint, hint!);)

XAntoftheSkyX 02-21-2012 06:02 PM

I've been involved with drum corps the years of the conventions, and they're held during Finals Week.

Kevin 02-21-2012 06:04 PM

Two. I'll be attending my third in July. It's in Dallas, which is only about a 3 hour drive, so no excuse not to go.

AOII Angel 02-21-2012 06:11 PM

Three. One in Florida and two in Arizona. I'll be going to my fourth in Chicago next year!!

pbear19 02-21-2012 06:19 PM

Two, and I was initiated at the first. :) I am trying to find a way to go to at least one day of this year's convention. It sounds crazy to some, that I'd go for just a day, but I'll have a 3 month old by the time of convention and cannot afford to bring someone with me to watch him, so I may try to just go to the final day and leave the little bub at home. Not ideal, but I really, really want to go even if it's only a day!!

Titchou 02-21-2012 06:19 PM

14th one this summer in Indy! Started going in 1980 and missed 4 since - I think.

Atlanta 2001 was my very first Convention. I've also attended the 2004 Centennial in Chicago and 2006 in Indian Springs. MAN -- that was HOT.

I was hoping to attend the one in St. Louis but it doesn't look like it'll be possible. There's always 2014!

KSUViolet06 02-21-2012 06:32 PM

I attended my first in 2010. Minneapolis, MN.

I'll attend my 2nd next year in Orlando!

amanda6035 02-21-2012 06:39 PM

I've been to all 4 since I've been a member, starting in 2005 :)

SHUCK!!! I was at those also!!! Did we meet? LOL. Things are always so rushed I always don't remember who I meet for the first time.

AOIIalum 02-21-2012 07:13 PM

I've attended five so far, including our Centennial Convention. I've lost count of the number of Leadership Institutes I've attended so far, but I'm thinking about seven of those.

SAIchica 02-21-2012 07:13 PM

Hopefully my first this summer.

DreamfulSpirit 02-21-2012 07:20 PM

I have attended 2 so far: St. Louis in 2010 (where I got engaged!) and Charlotte last year. I plan on attending this summer in Salt Lake City!

Leslie Anne 02-21-2012 07:40 PM

I've only gone to one convention back in 2003. I've also gone to a National Leadership Conference (our off-year event).

cjburris93 02-21-2012 08:10 PM

I've attended two Alpha Phi Omega conventions; one as a voting delegate.

DoctorD 02-21-2012 08:44 PM

I've been to 7. This summer will be my 8th.

I missed convention is 1999, but other than that have been to every one since 1995.

***Amending this to add that I've also been to many of our Leadership Conferences - probably more than 7.

madoug 02-21-2012 09:55 PM

St. Louis, Cincinnati and Tuscon! Also a National Leadership conference at Calloway Gardens.

Sciencewoman 02-21-2012 10:04 PM

This summer will be #5 for me...which is a big deal in Gamma Phi Beta world, because starting with your 5th Convention, you get a special T-shirt and you get to join in the Confirmed Conventioneer's parade. It's a bit silly, but it's fun!

Just interested 02-21-2012 10:34 PM

I started attending conventions in 1993. Can't wait for Boston in 2013.

I thought it was 11 but it must be 10. I guess I could throw in 4 NLC's (our in between year get-together)

NutBrnHair 02-21-2012 10:49 PM

The original question...

I was trying to poll just the number of National Conventions, not Leadership Schools, Regional Conferences or Centennial Celebrations.

Welcome to GreekChat, where threads usually take on lives of their own, regardless of what the OP intended.

Gusteau 02-21-2012 11:27 PM

I have been to one Convention (New Orleans 2010), and this summer in Pittsburgh will be my second. However it was an International Convention, not a National one - does that still count?

:)

I wish there was a emoticon for "wry smile."

I really want to go to this Convention, too, but it's waaaaaaaay too expensive in my opinion. It irritates me how much Convention has gone up in price since my first one four years ago.

NinjaPoodle 02-22-2012 01:31 AM

Sad to say, I've only attended 1 Boule but damn it, it was a helluva Boule!! Miami 2002! I've gone to several regional and Area meetings but those don't COST AS MUCH as a Boule.
gotta win the lottery

Then you need to define what you mean by convention. Our Centennial Convention was non-legislative, but we have had legislative conventions that were not called General Conventions.

Actually, you don't need to do anything -- it's not like you've disclosed what you want the data for, since it needs to be so specific.

Ch2tf 02-22-2012 03:34 PM

4 in my almost 7 years of membership.

2007-Chapel Hill
2009-Philly
2010-Los Angeles
2011-New Orleans

I'm not sure if I'm going to this year's though.

Oh, congrats on your impending parade participation! :D That's such a fun night, it's so contagious how excited everyone gets when they get to dance around the room. :)

I was surprised at the full time registration cost this year, I figured it would go down markedly from Orlando. But I guess once it goes up, it stays up? Ah well. Could you maybe go Friday and Saturday only instead of the whole time?

I have been to 2 conventions, and only stayed for the Saturday and Sunday events both times. It does really cut down on the costs, and you don't have to take so much time off from work. The first time was combined with a chapter reunion that I really wanted to attend.

Cincinnati in 2008 was an especially good year...they did a $200ish "rebate" for alumnae delegates, but that appears to have been a one-time deal.

Right, but this year's is double the registration cost from that Convention, and $200 more than the last in Orlando. And the part-time registration is pay per day, which I think is a little different from how they did it in the past. I don't really want to fly to Denver for just two days, and I find the business sessions to be really interesting. So yeah, I just find it disappointing...the costs are out of line, IMO...I mean, I just went on an 11-night Caribbean cruise for $900, and that included all meals and lodging.

Sciencewoman 02-23-2012 09:30 PM

Let's have Convention on a cruise ship! Seriously, that was a choice in a survey some time ago. I wonder if any group has ever really done it?

SWTXBelle 02-23-2012 10:05 PM

It killed me not to go to Orlando - it's killing me that I can't afford to go to Denver - especially since I am president of an alumnae chapter. :(

Titchou 02-23-2012 10:36 PM

So your national organization and alumni chapter don't pay all your expenses as a delegate? Between the two, they will pay for all of mine as alum president.
