NEW MOVIES- SUMMER 2K1

ETA: Please use this thread to post all your movie likes, dislikes, commentaries, etc. This will be a LONG thread to talk about movies, just like we do with music and celeb dish. Enjoy. And now, back to the thread! :)

I just saw the advertisement for Martin (Lawrence and Danny DeVito's) new movie:

"What's the Worst that Could Happen?" Therefore, I decided to start a post on new movies opening this summer.

I think Tyrese has a movie opening soon, as well.

ZChi4Life 05-22-2001 01:01 AM

I don't know when this is coming out, but I MUST see The Matrix 2! Aaliyah, Jada, Keanu, special Fx up the wazoo...aahhh man! It's gonna be goooooood!

I also wanna see:
Moulin Rouge
Shrek (Mike Myers and Eddie...good grief!)
Pearl Harbor

And I wanna see What's the worst that could happen as well.

**I just remembered I wanna see Tomb Raider too!**

I want to see Planet of The Apes and that's about it.

I feel like next year and this Christmas will be the time for movies.

Lord of the Rings (this Christmas AND next Christmas! the hotness!)
The Matrix 2 (with Aaliyah and Jada Pinkett, right?)
Queen of the Damned (w/ Aaliyah again, should be interesting)
Star Wars (that IS next year right? please let it be better than the last one!)

Off the top of my head I can not think of any big black movies. Anyone who does know then shout them out! I would love to support our movies at the box office!

tickledpink 05-22-2001 01:02 PM

Iloved the Mummy 2. The end was a little corny to me, but the special fx during the movie was great.
Jurassic Park 3 is coming out also. I'm wondering hpow good Martin Lawrence's new movie will be. I'm tired of seeing him either play a cop, or a robber. Think about it...
Bad Boys (cop)
Nothin' To Loose (robber)
Blue Streak (robber perping as a cop)
Big Mamma's House (cop)

& I think he's a robber in this new movie, right?

I also want to see Shrek. I saw the making of it on HBO and it was very interesting.

Yes he plays a thief trying to outwit a cop.

Remember in Life he was an honest man who got in trouble because of a crook http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

Well you all already named some movies that I want to see, but I have to disagree I do not want to see the Martin Lawrence Movie because I'm not a big animation fan.

But Rush Hour 2 sounds good as well as Matrix 2...those were great to begin with. As far as Scary Movie---WHY OH WHY must they create another one?

OOOOO I wanna see this one! I know it's gonna be good. The folks who did work on The Matrix also did work on this film.

Little32 05-22-2001 11:22 PM

Tomb Raider (June 15), Final Fantasy(July 11?)-- both based off of video games-- should be interesting.
Atlantis (June 15)--It's Disney, but I want to see where they go with it.
A.I.(June 29)--I love that little kid from the Sixth Sense...what's his name...Haley something, something.

Compliments of NICK-e:

I don't know if any of you plan to go see Pearl Harbor this weekend, but let me warn you: IT IS ABOUT 3 HOURS LONG!! Bring a jacket(it's always cold in our theaters) and don't drink anything before you go (you don't want to be up before you're down!!)Also, Cuba Gooding, Jr. plays a significant role in the film (you'll see what I mean), but he doesn't really have a huge speaking role. More Cuba would have been a good thing. I liked it, but it was just too dang long!! Let me know what you thought . . .

AKA2D '91 05-27-2001 09:17 PM

COMPLIMENTS OF ALMIGHTY14:

i went to see PEARL HARBOR last night man i have to agree that movie is too dammmmmmmmnnn long... i fell asleep a couple of times.... it wasn't that it was boring but i went during what would normally be considered "CLUB HOURS" and my body was not hearing any music so it did what comes naturally drifted off... no digs on white peps but only they could manage for one friend to meet a girl .... "die" ... best friend take over ... get girl pregnant... "friend comes back to life" and the other friend dies" then she marries the first guy and they raise the best friend child together.... honestly how many blk peps u know would have done that and still been together ,, much less alive...
peace, one love....
one summer flick down .. too many more to go.

AKA2D '91 05-27-2001 09:18 PM

COMPLIMENTS OF NOVELLA000:I loved the movie... it was long as all get out... But I felt kinda proud of what I saw. The whole history lesson and all, it was great. We went to see it around 3 pm... So I was okay when I left.
My guy and I were kinda tripping tho' -- we felt silly at not having known some of the vitals in the movie, like the President during that time... We guessed when the movie first started and later found out we were dead wrong!! LOL We don't remember much American History. Sad but true.

There was a pretty starlit cast in that movie... with a lot of cameos of folks I'd seen in other movies, but don't know well enough to name. Pearl Harbor was a great "power-of-the-human-spirit" movie. GO SEE IT... if you have a free afternoon.

I can't wait to see it !!!!!!!

CrimsonTide4 06-18-2001 11:57 AM

Shrek was good. Much funnier than I expected it to be but I think it was geared more towards adults than children.

What's The Worst That Could Happen was also pretty funny. Better than I expected.

I am eagerly awaiting RUSH HOUR2, BABY BOY, The Fast & The Furious, Scary Movie 2 and Dr. Doolittle 2.

kitten03 06-19-2001 12:18 AM

Danger Will Robinson,
I just wanted to warn everyone not to go see "Tomb Raider" it was too much like a video game in the fact that it was one dimensional. The theme, plot and acting were pretty good. Even the direction, but it just wasn't exciting.

Now Atlantis is something all together different. Did you know that Cree Summer(Freddie from a Different World ) is the voice of the character Kida. It's a really good movie with a good plot. It has the good hearted nature of disney movies with the comedy for kids and adults. It's a must see.

Am I the only one who noticed how Disney movies have been on the downward spiral? "How the Emperor got his Groove Back" http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif There hasn't been anythng really great since the Lion King. Maybe Atlantis will bring them back up to standard

tickledpink 08-04-2001 02:56 AM

I saw Rush Hour 2 tonight - all I can say is hilarious ~ Chris Tucker! That chick that played in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is off the chain!

I'm waiting for the figures to come out about how much this movie grossed. There was a long line waiting to get in 30 minutes before it started (mind you, it played on several screens). The theatre was packed - ans yes, that's unusual for Charlotte.

Alias_01 08-04-2001 08:59 AM

Rush Hour 2 is the first movie I saw this summer where I left the theater and loved everything, the plot, the characters, the action, the jokes, even the ending. A Must see for everyone!!

exquizit 08-04-2001 10:54 AM

I really want to see Rush Hour 2, I think I'll go this evening.
My daughter dragged me out to see Legally Blonde. It was a cute movie that would do well at Blockbuster. Wait for the tape or DVD

Yeah, I heard that was good! I'm gonna have to check that out, for sure. I heard a few people say it was a good movie, but after these posts, I'm definitely going to see it. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Shrek was VERY good and funny too! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

AKAtude 08-04-2001 11:55 AM

I saw "Rush Hour 2" last night. I thought it was pretty good even though I still like the first one better. It's the only movie I've wanted to see all summer. I just really like Chris Tucker.

I see Ice Cube is coming out with a new movie soon. I saw a trailer for it in the theater. I think it's called "All About The Benjamins".

CrimsonTide4 08-05-2001 12:04 AM

I saw the previews for Ice Cube in a John Carpenter movie called Ghosts on Mars.

HEY http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif I loved Legally Blonde. It was funny and it imparted a message.

I have to wait until next week to see RH2 and American Pie 2 as well. I cannot wait.

Tanzanite 08-05-2001 03:11 PM

I saw Rush Hour 2 last night...it was hilarious http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif and I actually thought it was better than Rush Hour 1 even though they were both funny.

This was the first movie I have ever went to see alone and I enjoyed myself. There haven't been tooo many exciting movies out this summer so this is my first movie of the summer and it was an excellent show from begginning to end.

I saw that movie on Saturday and I loved it--but that's coming from a person who quotes "Friday" at the drop of a dime...I like Rush Hour 2 better than the first one also...You all should enjoy it.

Who has saw "Planet of the Apes"? What did you think? I'm thinking about going to see it.

Kimmie1913 08-06-2001 11:21 AM

Loved Rush Hour2. It was the only thing I have been inerested in seeing all summer to date. I really enjoed it.

I have not seen planet of the apes but my brothe did (it is right up his alley) Unfortunately he did not like it. Said the onl good thing was thr make up (which he called incredible) He had expected to like it given the story and the director. (Tim Burton)

But Rush Hour 2 is a must see!

librasoul22 08-09-2001 03:04 PM

Does anyone want to see Nicole Kidman's new movie, "The Others"? It opens tomorrow (Friday)...
I REALLY want to see this, b/c I love scary movies!!!

librasoul22 08-10-2001 03:33 AM

I just saw American Pie 2...it was OKAY but nothing special.
I want to go see The Others (new Nicole Kidman movie) later tonight http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif so I can be SCURRED, it looks pretty good!

I saw it last night. It was NOT scary at all. The kids were cute, and most people in the audience laughed most of the time. I felt cheated! I expected so much more.

I FINALLY saw Legally Blonde. I liked it! Her two sorority sisters were hilarious and the pool guy was funny in court.

Next movie I am looking forward to: "The Musketeer". Something about opera music in movie trailers gets me hype to go see the movie! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Plus the fight scenes look pretty tight.

I thought the movie was only mediocre until the end. I think good endings can make a poor movie better. I only "jumped" a couple of times, but I really vibed with the ending so I give the movie a thumb up. I think it was more suspense than horror.

AKATUDE...you didn't even flinch at the end?? Come on! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

I saw Rush Hour 2 this weekend. I thought that it was funny. I really enjoyed the action sequences. The hilarity of the ending scene was just too much for me!

Rat Race was awful!!!!! Definately wait until it hits the $1.50 movies or debuts on cable.

Librasoul22, I was soooooo disappointed. The review I read in the newspaper said if you pay attention, there were "clues" leading up to the end. I didn't notice any. Also, where did the husband fit in the scheme of things? Was he or wasn't he? I'm trying not to give away too much. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif
