Billy, I think that a part of what you're feeling could be influenced by the holidays. Also, you've got some emotions that are stirring (refering to your other thread) and TESTS which are stressful. Now, are you tired as well? You have a LOT going on right now. My daughter called last night and we talked for an hour. It was just like the wonderful chats we had before she left. Mind you, our most recent conversations have been very brief and sprinkled with some slight irritation towards her MOMMY!
What always STUNK for me was seeing all my friends with their boyfriends, buying them Christmas gifts and wondering what they would get and what they would do on New Year's Eve. My Hubby and I always seemed to break up right before Christmas/Exams...I think he just didn't want to buy me a present LOL! It could be your emotions are wide open right now and because you're one of those rare young men who isn't afraid to allow himself to FEEL- like tenderness (wanting to make her smile-take the coat to the girl-so MANY examples) ALL emotions will be heightened for you. |
it's a good thing
know you are not lonely in these feelings. seek out others who may be bumming too.
see if mom can send you a care package or at least a recipe. to echo just a mom, this is totally normal -- just take a deep breath and know it will pass. if you think about it, you've had an incredible semester. good luck. mmcat :p :D |
I took a job here in Orlando so this will be my first Winter Break not going home. After the Thanksgiving weekend when I went back to Orlando, anytime a person would mention the word "home" I would burst into tears. I realize that a lot of it is stress from finals and work. And, at the same time, realizing that I'm growing up and moving further and further from the days when my parents watched over me. :( But, you'll be home in two weeks. Lucky you!

Thanks Justamom and mmcat. Yeah I feel too much. But ohwell. I'm rare :) That makes me happy. It was just weird because I didn't see them at all this year since school started, my family i mean, untill thanksgiving, then i realized i missed them. Oh well, I'm strong, i can take it. :D
ZTA good luck. That sucks for xmas though. Hang in there! |
Moms are wonderful things aren't they? It's no wonder we get homesick and lonely. Somehow, they make it better, though. Hang in. The time until break is short.
Although most of my Christmas Breaks were wonderful -- partying with friends from High School and college -- this thread reminds me of the year I was working at a local radio station over Christmas Break in the small town where I went to college. Everyone was gone. The place was a ghost town. My mom drove down and showed up at the radio station on Christmas Day. She went out to try to find some sandwiches or something, but everything was closed, including the "greasy spoon" which was open every other day of the year. The News Director brought in some sandwiches for us. Then my apartment was so cold that mom rented a hotel room for us for the night. I would have been OK, but she wasn't about to sleep in that dump! She passed away a few years ago, but she certainly made what could have been a very lonely Christmas a very nice memory. Happy Holidays to you all. DeltAlum |
That is one of the most beautiful memories I have heard.

I go to school an hour away from home and I still get homesick. When things get stressful, I just want my mommy!
I can't wait to get back home. I hate baton rouge  |
Bah :(
im homesick too... I didnt get to go home for thanksgiving break, I was home for a day and a half, then went to NYC. I CANT WAIT! I hate school so much.... and I dont know what else to do. The only close to home school that has Phi Sig is still about an hour away... when If I drive about 70, I get home from hell, I mean here in an hour...

Thank you BrownEyedGirl for the offer! That's so sweet!
I live in Ft.Lauderdale which is a little over 3 hours from Orlando. Not too bad. But, my boyfriend lives about two hours away in West Palm Beach and his mom invited me for Christmas. So, I'm going to hang out there. :) I'm actually Jewish but I end up celebrating Christmas every year with one of my good friends. I just didn't want to be alone on Christmas Day. Gets lonely for us Jewish people too! Luckily, I have a Catholic bf so I'll just spend the day with his family. ZLAM |
I haven't lived at "home" for 14 years and am 4 hours by car from my family and I too have been feeling homesick lately.
I do think its the holidays and being home for Thanksgiving started it. It was so wonderful to be around my family and spend time with my parents and have those long deep talks with my mom. And I do realize if I thought I could live there (Las Vegas), it would be a much easier life with much more support than the one I've been living in Los Angeles (which, although I love it, is expensive and at times way too cutthroat). But I will get to be home for the whole week of Christmas/New Years and I imagine that will be enough time to recharge those family batteries, and by the end of the week, I'll probably be saying enough is enough, I'm 32, I've gotta get back to my OWN life. ha ha ha :) Hang in there everyone, Christmas break is just around the corner. DeltAlum, that's a great story. I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way.
|
DeltAlum, that is such a precious story - I'm glad you have that memory of your mom.
ZTAngel - I'm glad you've got plans!! There's nothing I hate more than the thought of people lonely on Christmas!! Everyone else - hang in there, kids! Christmas isn't too far away, and even if home is, there's always 1-800-CALL-MOM!! Good luck with exams, everyone!! |
