Mercer ADPi Missing

Just heard about this from the Chi Os at my alma mater. Wanted to get the word out quickly...

Thank you for posting

Why have I not heard about this in the ajc or the Atlanta news?? I'm praying for her family.

DZsis&mom 01-30-2012 11:44 PM

My heart goes out to her parents. May God be with them & hold them close during this horrible time.

It made the "Cedartown Standard" and the "Calhoun Times."

Oh wow... I'm sure the entire Macon community is on edge given the missing Mercer law student from last summer who was found brutally murdered a few days later.

I thought they were pretty certain they caught the guy who did that... but this is now two Mercer girls in less than 8 months. :(

Praying for her family.

jenidallas 01-31-2012 09:47 AM

Update... I googled this and she has been located. She was headed to Ohio to go see a friend and apparently turned her own phone/Facebook off.

I'm so glad - I had heard a lot of details about the July murder from people close to the victim and was getting chills to think it might be happening again.

Who deactivates their Facebook for a weekend away??

My thoughts as well! It is strange. Glad she is safe!

lovespink88 01-31-2012 01:48 PM

Jenidallas, where did you find that? I've been Googling as well and can't find any information that she has definitely been found.

Per the Facebook page set up to assist in the search: "UPDATE: Good news!! She's not home, but Megan was reported as being headed to Ohio to see a former DECA contact on Saturday...she contacted her friend by text indicating she was coming to visit....they are following this lead. She's not home, but this is great news.

Keep praying!"

So it sounds like she's still missing, but they have a good lead. If someone sees a link that says otherwise, please share!

Thank you to everyone who expressed concern about Megan. There's obviously a lot more layers to this onion than we have any idea. I'm praying that she's safe, in control of her situation, and that she feels that she can let her family & sisters know that she's alright. Lord bless her.

I was obviously reading too quickly. I found another link where someone quoted that and said she had been found. I'm now not finding that link so it looks like my info was erroneous.

This is the other Mercer case from last summer:

I was working on a project in Macon at the time so heard way too much about it from individuals who have direct ties to the case.

I don't think Megan is currently enrolled at Mercer. I was told she was currently living at home with her parents in Cedartown, GA.

ASUADPi 02-08-2012 06:45 PM

Megan has been found! This is according to the official facebook page her family started, as well as Fox19.

I'm so glad she was found safe and sound.

Greek_or_Geek? 02-08-2012 08:42 PM

I'm happy she was found safe but I'm not buying the abduction part at all.

Here's the latest.

"Polk County Po-lice Department"

Gee, they pronounce in Ohio like we do in Polk County, Ga!;)

Sounds to me from carnation's link that she may have had some sort of breakdown.

Regardless of what "inquiring minds" want to know... the main story remains that she has been found. I'm sure we will never know all of the details.

33girl 02-09-2012 12:32 PM

I think it's telling that the parents are the ones claiming abduction, not Megan herself. Like I said...when you deactivate your FB it means you want to disappear. It's hard when you feel people don't trust you enough that you can say "I'm going to disappear for a long weekend" and have it be OK.

Like I said, it's great that she is home and safe. However, she used tons of public financial/law enforcement resources to hunt for her and had many people concerned and volunteering their time to help. Now the story the family is putting out there is leaving people in the area where she was found believing that there might be someone abducting and doing heaven knows what to women out there. While I don't think any of us needs to know the details, I do think the public needs to know whether or not there was a kidnapping. Tall tales do a disservice to those who really are missing.

DrPhil 02-09-2012 01:01 PM

It is great that she was found but she is 22 and it is often (not always) the case that college students and grown adults who go missing for even a couple of weeks are not kidnapped but instead running off to "do whatever they do" (often with a romantic partner) or having an emotional breakdown.

It is unfortunate that she would disappear for 2 weeks like that even if she is grown and able to do so. I am much older than she is but I am sure my family would panic if they did not hear from me for 2 weeks. However, I would have no reason to disappear like that. I do not need to "disappear" in order to spend 2 weeks with my significant other or go on a 2 week BOOMCHICKAWOWOWOW vacation in Jamaica. Just tell my peoples that I will be doing the grown folks thing for a couple of weeks. Holla if ya hear me.

NutBrnHair 02-09-2012 03:45 PM

At any rate, there never was enough of a hint of "foul play" for Nancy Grace to talk about it on her show -- even though this young woman was initiated at the very same chapter as Ms. Grace.

I agree with the bold text. It hasn't been all that long ago that there was a runaway bride in Georgia who claimed abduction when she really ran away.

And, as you note, draw on public resources unnecessarily.

Old_Row 02-09-2012 08:33 PM

I thought it was interesting that after the first day or so the parents stopped mentioning she'd just gotten home from four months in rehab. Maybe they thought she'd look less sympathetic?
