member of TWO NPC sororities

Hey everyone,
I browse through greekchat often but haven't posted. Anyways, my sister is a member of a top tier NPC organization at her school. Recently, she heard about a girl who is in the pledge class under her, who has been a member for over a year, was a member of another NPC organization at another school before transferring to her school. In addition, some girls in the sorority knew of this BEFORE rush, but apparently felt that she was so desirable that they still let her join. Likewise, this isn't a case of moving clear across the country, the girl's original school is only a couple hours from her new school (the one my sister attends). Now, most girls in the sorority know of this, but don't feel it is necessary to do anything since she's been such a valuable member for so long. And to make matters even worse the girl's original sorority is at her new school. So why couldn't she just transfer chapters?

Leslie Anne 01-17-2012 09:51 PM

Oy, not this again.

There are already many threads about this exact situation.

KappaMe 01-17-2012 09:56 PM

about chapter's knowing about this before recruitment? oops! I couldn't find anything. I'm sorry.

AOII Angel 01-17-2012 09:57 PM

Well, I guess that's not really any of your business. If your sister is upset about it, she could approach someone in the other sorority to see if that girl is listed as a member. Your sister would likely be persona non grata in her chapter after that, so proceed with caution.

Xidelt 01-17-2012 10:00 PM

Do you know for a fact that this girl was an initiated member at her original school? Could she have pledged, dropped, transferred, and then rushed your sister's chapter? If she really is initiated into multiple chapters and your sister's chapter knowingly turned a blind eye, then it is sucky and not very Panhellenic. But I'm sure it's not the first time in the history of greekdom that this has happened. And, really, it's your sister's chapter business if they want to acknowledge it or handle it.

winnie_tuck 01-17-2012 10:12 PM

Wouldn't nationals say she can't join? Why would you join a brand new chapter if the school had your chapter, fall recruitment as a pledge twice who would put themselves through that??

You must have missed the relevant information:

I'm guessing Desirable's Sorority #1 isn't "top tier" at new school.

KappaMe 01-17-2012 10:20 PM

She was initiated. Her original group's chapter at her new school was very small and she had a lot of friend's in my sister's chapter, which was a stronger chapter. It is my sister's last semester and she is very busy, so I don't think she is going to do anything about it.

AOII Angel 01-17-2012 10:24 PM

She is very busy...

Leslie Anne 01-17-2012 11:16 PM

So, in other words, the entire reason for starting the thread was to let us all know that your sister is in a "top tier" sorority.

Fascinating. Really.

thetalady 01-17-2012 11:49 PM

I just don't believe a single word of this....

ellebud 01-18-2012 12:34 AM

Well, bless your soul OP. Not happening.

Nope. I just wanted to strike up a conversation about what people's views are from different greek "generations". I was just trying to make a point that sororities aren't exactly what they used to be. Girls just want to be greek and fit in somewhere.

If she just wanted to be greek, then she could have affiliated with her original group. That being said, I call bull.

Because she is a disloyal selfish bitch?

No, sororities ARE exactly what they used to be.

I'm fairly sure that if any of the girls from this bitch's first NPC found out, they would be on the horn to the second NPC in a millisecond. That is also what would have happened 10, 20, 50, or 70 years ago.

ellebud 01-19-2012 12:58 AM

......or perhaps the OP has a perfect older sister. She did, remember, pledge a top tier house. And the OP will, wearing the same perfect outfits as her much taller sister, still looking FABuLOUS (albeit several years later) pledge an equally fabulous top tier house.

a whole year!?!

transfering "chapters" is what she should have done, but no, you are saying she joined a different NPC group.

Frankly, it's certainly possible that this can happen. As to why it is being discussed on GreekChat, I'm not sure. I guess for the shock factor. Whatever.

Most of us here really believe in and honor the lifetime commitment to our organizations. If you want to be in a group that you can change on a whim, just join a health club next time. You can break those contracts easily and start all over again at another location.

DZsis&mom 01-19-2012 05:55 PM

I GOT IT...I FIGURED IT OUT!!!!!

She's pissed because she rushed at a different University - got CUT!! & some Bitch in her Sister's sorority got bid by NOT ONE...BUT TWO different sororities at 2 different Universities.

WHHHAAAWWWWW.... What does SHE got that I ain't got???

OMG...The injustice of it ALL!!!

ellebud 01-19-2012 06:09 PM

And adding to the injustice of it all: Are you trying to say that this obviously superior creature made no friends at her first school? Her first school which is only a few hours away? Oh...and she doesn't have a facebook where her sisters...far and wide...don't occasionally check in to see how their fabulous sister now and then is faring?

So...she doesn't visit and no one visits her..she doesn't send a greeting card..doesn't write...doesn't have a facebook to keep her fans updated....doesn't call....seriously a Jewish mother's lament....or a fabrication..

KD4Me 01-19-2012 06:19 PM

Let me see if I have this straight.

This "top tier" house that could presumably have any PNM it wants because it is so "top tier" is willing to take a member who is known to be an initiate of another NPC. And most girls (and likely their advisors) know and don't care because she is so super wonderful.

And the "less desirable" chapter is willing to allow themselves to be humiliated by someone who supposedly took an oath to be a lifelong sister, but decided that she was too good for them once she got to their campus. And what??? Her sisters at her old campus don't care, either? They're cool with her breaking her vow because they understand how important it is to be in the top chapter on campus?

I don't believe it for a minute. IF a super-desirable, top-tier, insert-your-favorite-superlative-here were willing to risk all kinds of trouble with their national organization to do something crazy like this, the "other" chapter would be all over it. They would be filing infractions with Panhellenic, contacting their national organization about it, etc. I can't imagine a situation where girls would let themselves be embarrased like that.

carnation 01-19-2012 06:22 PM

I vote for the "fabrication" theory.

Troll: "Hmm. Let's see if I can go to Greekchat and piss everybody off by saying I know someone who belongs to 2 NPCs."

IrishLake 01-19-2012 07:39 PM

Either that, or the girl in question lied about being initiated into the first group at the old college.

ElieM 01-19-2012 07:43 PM

Pledge girl was weighed and measured and found lacking at her old school. And cut.

Hence the "transfer" to a new school to start all over again

... and get another shot at being one of the five sisters of Sigma Gamma?

(Yes, I watched that trainwreck. I never could resist a good trainwreck.)

ElieM 01-20-2012 12:42 AM

Definitely. They relieved her of her oath & committment to Sigma Gamma, plus her share of GPB25,000

I really don't understand why you would want to blast this across the internet. The appropriate thing to do would be to take it up with that girl individually maybe through standards or whatever channel in your chapter would handle that, and if it turns out it's true, go to the NPC.

I will never understand why my generation enjoys blasting out their chapter's personal business on the internet.

Except it's not even her chapter. It's her sister's chapter, so the OP is blasting out the personal business of a chapter she's not even a member of.
