What Flowers Did You Carry in Your Wedding?
The wedding threads have been bumped a lot lately so tell us: what flowers did you and your bridesmaids carry?
I carried a prayer book covered with ivory fabric from my gown and some ivory orchids. My bridesmaids carried bouquets of small fir branches with red Christmas balls and peppermint and red carnations. My flower girls carried baskets of evergreens with tiny red carnations and red Christmas balls (and hey, I just found out last month that one of them went Pi Phi several years ago!) |
I haven't been married yet, but I will have irises -- no questions! They've been my favorite since I was a little girl and I used to grow them in the front yard. Now they're even more fitting!
|
I carried pink and white roses, blue hydrangeas, blue delphinium, and blue larkspur. My MOH carried pink and white roses. I think the rest of my bridesmaids carried just white roses.
|
I had worked at a Florist in high school and I had a small ceremony, so I made my own. My boquet was six lavender roses (matched my lavender colored dress)- two fully open, two half closed, and two buds. My MOH carried a bouquet with a matching fully opened rose, my bridesmaid carried a bouquet with a half open rose, and my Jr Bridesmaid carried a bouquet with a rosebud. All had silver accents and silver ribbon.
|
My bouquet was made of white roses (for TD), wheat, bells of Ireland (we got engaged in Belfast), and thistle (I graduated from a Scottish university and a number of my Scottish friends were there). It looked like so:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42...ul/bouquet.jpg My bridesmaids had just sheaves of wheat, and the groomsmen's boutonnieres were little sprigs of wheat. My Mom and MIL had corsages of white roses, my dad and FIL had boutonnieres of white roses and wheat. P had a boutonniere of thistle, wheat and white rose. |
^^^Wheat is really unique. Like.
|
i carried white calla lilies arranged in a crescent shape.
my bridesmaids had nosegays made of stephanotis, a deep purple flower, a lavender flower, greenery, and some other white flowers. they wore dresses made out of lavender moire taffeta(i cringe when i look at our wedding photos now, but back then they were so lovely). |
Kept it simple
Me - White roses Bridesmaids - pink carnations, of course! |
white hydrangeas and white roses with my grandmother's antique handkerchief
ETA: Just pulled up my wedding photos and it looks like there was some orchid-y things in there, too. (Can you tell I'm not a flower expert?) |
Light blue hydrangeas, white gerber daisies, and violets. :)
Matrons of honor had blue hydrangeas. Bridesmaids had white hydrangeas. Corsages and boutonnieres were white roses. |
I carried blue and white hydrangeas and white lilies, stamens carefully removed. I'm ALLERGIC to lilies but if you take out the stamens, no problem. Besides, they bleed all over the flower over time and makes the flower ugly.

Someone told me about an AOII wedding where they carried sheaves of wheat--their pledge pin is a sheaf.
One daughter is deciding this week what kind of flowers she'll carry in her April wedding. Looks like the bridesmaids will carry lavender, ivory, and green hydrangeas. Another daughter's bridesmaids carried Christmas bouquets of lilies and red hypericum berries; another simply used white freesias. I love to see hypericum berries used as fillers! These days they come in every color. Oh, and the current bride will carry something in her colors, maybe ivory or pale green cymbidiums with lavender markings; the second one above carried red roses and the third carried shell pink roses. |
Here's mine (I have a pic since I was married 6 1/2 months ago):
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...t/IMG_5534.jpg I had one yellow rose to represent OphiA and the fact that we got engaged at my sorority's convention. I also had some hydrangea, lavender roses, among others in my bouquet as well. Here are the bridesmaids, which were smaller, so although this pic looks like a big bouquet, it's actually about 3 small ones put together in one vase: http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2.../bouquets2.jpg |
I was really picky about my flowers. I had marigolds, zinnias, delphinium, some celosia (aka cockscomb), lisanthus and varigated greenery. I wanted seasonal, regional stuff - we were married in Georgia in August. The guys wore zinnias in their lapels.

Oooh! Do you have pictures, BraveMaroon?

This is not one of the "professional" ones, but it should give you a good idea. http://i1095.photobucket.com/albums/...cakeflower.jpg |
BraveMaroon, I love the bright colors!

Mine were pretty simple.
I wore ivory and carried red calla lilies with irises as fillers. My bridesmaids wore red and carried ivory calla lilies. My bouquet was a breakaway- it broke into three pieces, each with a couple of irises. What I didn't expect was that they had put an extra iris in the center to balance it out, so when it broke apart it was actually four pieces, not three! But I made the woman who caught the iris join the rest in the caught-the-bouquet photo :D As as aside, I had all women (married or not) line up for the bouquet. I don't like just calling out the single ones, and so if you were married & caught it it just gave you luck in marriage. I saw the idea somewhere and liked that better... But I also had a smaller wedding, I may have made a different decision with more guests. |
My wedding flowers were not simple, although now I wish that they were. My tastes have changed alot since I got married. My bouquet was hand-wired because I did not want a plastic holder. It had white roses, stephanoitis, ivy, dendrobium and japhet orchids (the ones with yellow inside). It had tulle and satin ribbons. In one picture you could barely see the dress because the bouquet was so big. In contrast, my younger sister complained that her bouquet was too simple, but it allowed you to focus on the details of her dress.
The bridesmaids had yellow roses and flowers to match the pale yellow satin dresses. My little niece, the flower girl, had a white basket of yellow carnations and greenery and wore a yellow and white floral headband. |
I remember mine being "White"....but they were blurred (from the shaking)
:o |
I wanted to use purple roses, but I was on a pretty tight budget. So, I used silk flowers and made all the bouquets, boutonnieres, centerpieces, church decorations, etc. myself. Here's a pic of my bouquet and a couple bridesmaids. Not as elegant as they might have been, but not bad for a DIY budget job, I think. :) Mine was purple roses in two shades with white roses.

I had very light blue hydrangeas, white roses, and white violets (for ZTA, of course). My maid and matron of honor had blue hydrangeas (darker than mine, but not dark-dark... apparently darker blue hydrangeas are not native to the US). The flower girls had puff balls (pomades? pom-poms? I forget the real name) of blue hydrangeas. The boutonnieres were all sprigs of hydrangeas as well.

Obviously don't have my flowers yet, lol, but...I originally wanted nothing but bold, purple flowers like this:
http://pinterest.com/pin/286893438731993418/ But then I learned about stephanotis flowers: http://pinterest.com/pin/47147127318584520/ (the white ones) Apparently it's somewhat a tradition to use stephanotis flowers for just the bride and groom. I thought that was cute and now I'm considering putting them in my bouquet and his boutonniere. |
Still don't have any pictures!! All of our bouquets were presentation style, with deep pink and white larkspar-type flowers, blue hydrangas, one large deep pink cabbage rose, and tons of magnolias! The church was ugly with magnolias!
|
I carried black magic roses hand tied with off white ribbons. My matron of honor carried white roses with cream ribbon. My flower girl carried a nosegay of white roses with a opened black magic rose in the middle.

^^^I had all roses - dark red, orange, and white. My bridesmaids had dark red & orange roses, no white. |
