relations between chapters
I was just wondering how your chapter gets along with other chapters. We hate our phi chapter , but we have great relations with our Omicron. I was also wondering what u think can help improve chapter realtions.

This issue has just been discussed by some of my sisters and me today! We are geographically separated by at least 2 hours from every chapter, and that chapter is at WVU. We *love* those girls! Their chapter is very similar to our demographically (is that the word I'm looking for? Who knows?LOL)...we have the same problems and the same successes.
When our delegates go to Convention or NLC, they say that all of the sisters from other chapters are great and really nice. However, we often find ourselves intimidated by the women in a top ten chapter with 180 people, with the Homecoming Queen, cheerleaders, beauty queens, yadda yadda yadda.... (No specifics in mind, but I'm know that they exist!) I find comfort in the fact that even thought I might not know these women, they are my sisters and on their campus they are doing the KD letters proud! :D |
While I am an Alum, I hve been to several Chapters and met many of the guys and find them great!
I attended one of our Regional Conclaves and met Brothers from 12 schools from as far west as Wyoming U. to N Illinois and points inbetwee.! God what a great bunch of guys! I try to build relationships no matter what house i visit! and there are a few in close distance to KC. We are all related in a since as we went through our respective Rituals and have a common bond whether we know each other or not! As in life we are all somewhat different!:) |

Just a sidebar. There are two GLOs that are at both big schools in my state that won't take affiliates from each other's chapters. One feels that they are better than the other, in one case. The other GLO were in competition for the top national honor and they became so competitive that they started denying affiliation.

I know our chapter (at clarion) does get along with other chapters but not as much as it could. We have done things with our Phi Sig chapter at Slippery Rock but I think we could be doing more and really help our other chapters. I got a chance to hang out with the girls there when I went to a job fair at their school. They were all very nice...and actually saw me and remembered me from a conference and came up to me to say hi!
Although, there just never seems to be the time. We both are very small schools so we had the idea on Panhellenic executive council one year to have Greek Week school against school, but the mission wasn't ever followed through. I think this would be a great idea because it would force groups to work together, and when they do it always has a positive outcome. I know my chapter always has a sorority picnic at our house and we invite each sorority chapter on our campus and you are always amazed about how many people show up and how well everyone gets along because just weeks before the chapters are fighting with one another. As far as other chapters are concerned for me, I have met some great sorority women from other chapters on greekchat from the area I'm moving to and can't wait to meet them. They have been a big help for me...(Thanks Colleen, Meghan, Jamie, Tracy, and Diana, and Christina) If I forgot anybody I am truly sorry...I know you girls don't realize what you have done for me but it has been greatly appreciated...just knowing that I have somebody there for me if I need them has made feel so much better. So to answer your questions and concerns...other chapters can get along...not all these women have been in my chapter so to speak but they were all there for me when I needed them! It makes me so happy to be Greek to have such a great circle of friends!!!! Thanks guys! luv ya, Kirsten:D |
Egad, I HATE our big brother chapter, who is suppose to walk us through getting our charter back. Where are they? *scratches head*

Where are you at? If I am correct, Omicron is here at U of I. I think the nicest thing I can say is that they are an "interesting" group.
Yeah they r at U of I, and they came up during my pledge semister at MSU. We also went down there once and we had a good time and they r nice guys. What have u heard of them? Some one told me they r the strongest house on campus. |
We pledges here all about the Iowa Betas--last year they were at Iowa for the Big Pledge Class sneak (which really is no sneak at all since all the actives know that we are going--hell we're taking 20 with us), but anyway the Iowa Betas wanted to haze the pledges, and that's one thing that we at Nebraska never do. They actually got into a fight with the IU Betas!!! like fists flew and everything.
We get along really well w/ the Betas at Kansas State though, they are very similar to us--three guys I graduated with pledged them. And while the Betas at Kansas are kinda different then us, we seem to get along pretty well, although everyone always says that they wouldn't have pledged the other chapter (I can vouch for that--we're totally different in our approach to stuff, and just the type of culture that exists within the house) I don't really know about any other chapters. |
Maybe it has to do with SC being a fairly 'it's a small world' sort of state, or maybe it's southern hospitality, but we just *love* our other ZTA chapters here. I have friends in probably five of the nine chapters here, and two of those chapters are brand new (just colonized this fall!). I think it has to do with our annual ZTA Day - where we all get together at one school and get to talk, compare notes, etc. This year it's at my chapter and we're excited to host everyone! I have to admit, though, we're a bit jealous of our USC chapter - the admin. has finally allowed Greek housing and their blueprints are gorgeous! They broke ground this fall and I'm green with envy!

I have been to chapters where we didn't get along that great at first but being brothers we all end up drinking and having fun by the end of the day.

When the (majority of our) Michigan chapters get together for IRD (International Reunion Day), we get along pretty well. There is one chapter that I think is a bit snottier that the rest, but c'est la vie. I love our Wayne State and Northwood chapters a lot though! They are so friendly and they invited us to come and see them and stuff. :)

In Florida, we have five Chi Omega chapters. When my chapter was installed in 98, the USF and UF chapters came and helped us out, which I thought was really neat. The girls were all awesome. UF preffed the founding sisters of my chapter. More recently, we had celebrated Chi Omega's birthday with the Rollins Chapter here in Orlando. So far, every Chi O I've met have been really cool!

Theta Chi Rocks!! I got to go to the Mid-Year Leadership Confrernce, and I was still a Pledge, but they still treated me like a brother even though I was from a different chapter. I met brothers from all different chapters, and yeah, every chapter is different and unique, but we were all the same. Not like clones of each other, but all had the same ideals. There might be a few weak chapters that are having trouble, but we help them out when we can. We got our charter (we were a colony) and brothers from like two or three chapters besides the chapter that initated us were there. And it was cool because I met some of them at mid year.

In my town....
We have two chapters here. One of about 15 cities across the nation who have two Lambda Chi chapters.
Unfortunately, we dont really get along that well with our brothers from <school name deleted to protect brothers from embarassment>. While we go to the large state school (20,000+ students) and they go to the small catholic school (4,000 students), their chapter seems to be, how shall I say, a little rough around the edges. It also doesnt help that our two chapters couldnt be more different. Ever since I moved to SA, we have wanted to have better relations withthem, but stuff keeps happening that makes us not wanna chill with them at all. Examples: 1."Mashing" at one of our parties and throwing one of our brothers through a plate glass window in our house 'cause they were so into it. 2.Starting numerous fights with our guests at our parties. 3.After being asked to leave one of our parties because of their behavior they complain, and as they are leaving fire a couple of rounds into the air for emphasis. 4.Bring SKANKS to our parties, or show up uninvited to our formal with 25 skanky chicks who try to start fights with our dates. 5.Meet with the consultant and when they realize they are going to get in trouble for drug usage in the chapter, try to avert his attention off of them by laying hazing allegations against our chapter, causing us a huge headache. Were just different groups. One of their brothers has his ribs pierced. WTF is that? Also they think were stuck up. We are always hospitible to them when they show up unannounced, and feed them, and share our beverages with them. We've helped them rush time and time again. We dont mind, because its helping a brother. We have a 70 man chapter and can do it. They only have 20 men or so, so we can help them out but they are always ungrateful and disrespectful. Our consultant recommended that we do alumni events with them. Um, no. Dont see that happening anytime soon. It sucks that we have a great opportunity to share our brotherhood with another chapter and there are these impediments in the way. If we do anything with another chapter its always the Southwest Texas chapter. Those guys rock and are always cool. They party just like us and we've been doing stuff with them for years now. They come to our stuff, we go to their stuff. Our chapters are alot alike and is always a blast when we get together. Jsut wish SWT was across town and not 45 minutes away. My 2 cents. |
Life, get on the (our) thread!!!!! :o

I loved going on road trips and visiting other chapters. We didn't have a house so it was nice to hang out in theirs. I only hope that they enjoyed hosting us as much as we enjoyed visiting them.
Poor Siobhan. I never realized how fortunate I was to be in New York State with so many chapters nearby. |
Our chapter likes a lot of our other chapters. I know we're almost always visiting our Arlington and Houston chapters, and we have a lot of other good relationships with most of our others. There's a few that I found "interesting", but I won't go there.
Personal Note: Chapters that let me visit them on my infamous "trip across America because I got bored one night" are especially my favorites. |
When I was in school, all the NC chapters were pretty tight knit. KD is pretty strong in NC, about 7 chapters and there were 2 in pirticualar that helped us install our chapter so they are kind of mentors(Wake Forest&UNC)!
We definitly used there experience to guide us to get off our feet. Hopefully my chapter will be as strong as the rest in NC as soon as they find their niche! At our conventions and leadership conferances it seems no matter how different you all are you get along b/c you have so much love for the letters and that is recipricated with respect. |
