New Year, New Statement

Normally for the new year many come up with resolutions that they don't ever stick with.

Are there any of you who take on a "theme" of sorts? You know where you have this STATEMENT that you live by for the entire year?

I remember in 2000 mine was "It's all about ME". You know I got into that entire Millennium thing.

I don't think I had one per se for this year I guess I continued with the "me" theme this year, too. However, I am thinking about an official "motto" for 2002.

I forgot, I did have a theme this year, huh Ideal ;)? NEW BEGINNINGS. LMAO How could I forget that? LMAO!

What about you? Maybe this is something to think about for those of you who have not done this before.

:D

Good topic

Mine is to TAKE ON WHAT I CAN & THE HELL WITH THE REST. I dunno who told me I was super woman with an "S" on my chest, but I often try to pull off the impossible. This year I plan on takin it one day at a time.

I also want to really want to revamp my apartment. My couch has dents in the seats that I just can't take anymore!

PKTSU01 11-25-2001 11:35 PM

Yup, it's going to be

"Looking out for number one"

Something I kind of ignored before, now realize the importance of it. Giving of yourself is good, giving too much is destructive.

CkretCrush8 11-25-2001 11:39 PM

My Personal Motto for year 2001 was: Stepping out with faith overcoming the adversary. This was my theme for the year because in the past I've allowed the enemy (Satan) to get the best of me and this year I refused to let that happen. I can proudly say that I've grown in all areas of my life this year and am definitely moving on to bigger and better things in my ministry, in my finances, in my academics, and in my relationships. I praise the Lord for keeping me and bringing me through.

My Spiritual motto for year 2001 was: The Year of Order. I promised myself that I would do all things in deceny and order. I let it be known to myself that when God is in the midst of something (something that is in His plan and his will) it will be completed in order.

As of now I don't have my theme for 2002.

Ok, skee, b/c I was about to say!! LMAO! I don't know HOW you forgot that one, LOL!

My theme for 2000 was Living Life, Loving Me for Me. It worked, lol.

I didn't have a name for 2001, but it was ALL about PEACE OF MIND and POSITIVITY.

I'm not sure what my theme will be for 2002. Maybe ONE DAY AT A TIME: Living LIFE with LOVE and TRUTH. Yeah, I like that. Thanks, SF. ;)

This is a good topic, Soror!! :D

CrimsonTide4 11-26-2001 12:11 PM

Good One

I might have to use this for my juniors as a writing assignment.

I did not have an official theme this year but towards the end of the summer, I began to take on 2 mantras. One was What God Has For Me, It is for me because I was wondering why good and bad things were happening; why people were coming into my life; why others were leaving, etc. I took on that mantra as my theme this fall. My second mantra was a combo Be Still and Know that HE is GOD and Let God Handle It. Again this had to do with the things I was dealing with and how I would want to solve it on my own but one day I just sat there and did not touch it.

So for 2002 as of right now, I am going to keep with those 2 and possibly add a third which will deal with SELF LOVE and SELF ACCEPTANCE and BEING at PEACE no matter how stuff goes down.

Oh wait, a fourth will be Looking to the Future with Laughter. I love to laugh and I need to do it more.

lil_sunshine 11-26-2001 07:28 PM

My motto has been, still is, and always will be, "Don't talk about it, be about it. Otherwise, I could care less what you think!" May seem kinda rough, but I've just been tired of people who can talk the talk, but can't walk the walk. Two other statements that I like to keep in mind are, "Keep family and God first in your life, because you never know what could happen." and "Take everything one day at a time; whatever you're rushing to accomplish or get is not worth rushing for."

That's my ray of sunshine for now!! http://www.plauder-smilies.de/natur/sunny.gif Until next time, people!!!

prospectiverushee 11-26-2001 09:22 PM

Very Good Topic Indeed

My theme since about June was "No worries,No regerts"

I moved to Dallas during the summer. Don't have a job(no worries) Now it's almost the end of November and I have found and left 2 jobs (no regerts) I just started a new job today which I'm loving

Rain Man 11-26-2001 10:38 PM

My themes, past and present:

I didn't start using themes until 1998, so here goes:

1998: "To Not Do The Same Stupid $#!t I Did In 1997" (like getting married too soon and amassing $38,000 in debt).
1999: "Onward and Upward" --after turning my life over to the Lord.
2000: "Blessings Galore"
2001: "More Blessings to Come"
2002: Tentatively, it will be "A New Vision", because I know some significant changes are going to come my way, and I will need a new vision to prepare for them.

darling1 11-26-2001 11:10 PM

i have not been the type to make resolutions because i don't keep them but i have kept one that i use as a signature and it states "you are the master of your own destiny" i have noticed that over these past few years this has been true. i find that this works for me than stressing myself out over breaking a number of good intentioned resolutions.

mine is

for this new year mine will be "just do it" and "make it happen" good topic good topic.

stillwater15 11-27-2001 02:13 AM

my goal this year has been to solidify my relationship w/God. this included reading The Bible (in its entirety), attending church more consistently and just trying to live right. it worked out that i got baptized a few months ago.

as i continue to live, i want to continue to solidify my relationship w/God. from there, everything else will fall into place.

ClassyLady 11-27-2001 09:50 AM

Y'all really got me thinking. I have never had a motto for upcoming years, but now I think it's a really good idea.

For 2002, my inaugural motto of the year will be (Drumroll please) . . . . . . . . . . .

Tie Up Loose Ends

There are so many things that I have always wanted and needed to do, but if they were high on my list of priorities, then I always pushed them back until I had a chance. No more! I am going to start doing everything that I want to do. Even if that means saying no to things that really aren't as important to me.

korkscru 11-27-2001 10:07 AM

My motto for 2002 will be "TAKING CARE OF ME----HAPPY, HEALTHY, AND DEBT-FREE"!!!!!!

futurestar1 11-27-2001 01:49 PM

I have two mantras for 2002. Both of which I "borrowed" from one of my favorite artist's Mary J. Blige.

1. No More Drama I no longer have the time or energy for negativity. There is no need for hateration, and anyone who isn't FOR me is only slowing down my process...

which leads to my second mantra....

2. Keep It Movin This year I am not letting anything stop me from achieving my goals. I gotta keep it moving.

Oh wait, I got another one (again borrowed). This one is from Alicia Keys, "If you're troubled/you just got to Let It Go/If you're worried baby, you just go to Let It Go/All your hustles aint for nothin.....

I am not making resolutions, only affirmations. I am simply affirming the things that need change in my life. Re-evaluating all aspects of my life such as health, family, friends, academics, etc. Then I am applying my mantras to each area.

CkretCrush8 12-19-2001 08:09 PM

Finally Came to me!

My THEME for 2002 will be:

THE JOURNEY TO DESTINY AND FULFILLMENT: EXPECTING GREATNESS !

I will graduate in May 2002 with Bachelor of Social Work. This is the beginning of my destiny and on the road to fulfilling the following things:

1) Opening a Christian-Based Adoption (recruitment and placement) Agency
2) Opening a Christian-Based Youth Program geared towards their emotional and academic development and growth
3) Receiving my Masters in Social Work!
4) Purchasing my own lot for my house!
5) Having my house built from scratch!

The last three are things that I want to see done and accomplish prior to turning 30. I'm 21 now and I believe that it can happen. This year coming will be unlike any other in my emotions, in my academics, and in my ministry. I'm definitely expecting Greatness.

Guuuuurl, you ain't NEVER lied!! I am so feeling you! But, my theme for 2002 I guess would be "Take Care of Me, Then Worry About the Rest. This means putting myself first--amking sure that I am doing well in all aspects of my life, in this order:
1.) Spirituality (Getting Closer to God)
2.) Emotional/ Mental Health
3.) Physical Health
4.) My "Me Time" :D
5.) Academics
6.) Family
7.) Politics
8.) Social

I have a BAAAAADDDD habit of prioritizing in the following order: #5, 6, 7, 8, 3, 2, then 1--and that is SO WRONG!! :o

I need to put myself first before I can begin to help others...

It took me a while, but I'm learning (and will continue to do so for the rest of my days since learning IS a never-ending process)...

BLUTANG 12-21-2001 03:20 PM

motto

My mottos are usually humorous... my undergrad experience contained so much DRAMA i had to have a mantra i could belive in, push towards, and laugh at simultaneously.

now... the statement which will motivate me to bigger and better things:

kid free 'til 2003

it may seem silly, but i'm trying NOT to get too serious with the man in my life... trying to focus on getting this Master's degree.... trying to make BLUTANG proud of BLUTANG. i am no one's mother so i am not going to take care of or clean up after anyone BUT myself and my mess for the next year or so.
:D

DeTeRm1NaT1on 12-24-2001 08:08 PM

Hello everyone!

I guess mine will be "Getting to KNOW, LIKE, and LOVE myself!"

Thanks to a friend :), I now know what I need to do!

MSLIZ98NLS 12-25-2001 06:42 AM

EXCELLENT TOPIC!!!

MY THEME FOR THE YEAR 2002 WILL BE "STANDING ON HIS PROMISES"
THIS IS BECUASE I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT WHAT GOD HAS FOR ME IT IS FOR ME. ANYTHING THAT HE ASK ME TO DO I SHOULD DO IT. THIS COMING YEAR I AM GOING TO ASK GOD TO GIVE ME THE STRENGTH AND COURAGE TO STEP OUT ON FAITH AND LEAN AND DEPEND ON HIM.HE HAS BROUGHT ME FROM A MIGHTY LONG WAY.

THANK YOU JESUS!!! :o

nikki25 12-26-2001 06:47 PM

Every year, I have a theme/statement. Its an excellent way to jump start one's year. This year, my theme is: Posessing the Secret of Joy...for the Joy of the Lord is my Strength! (Nehemiah 8:10)

Exquisite5 12-27-2001 05:57 PM

My theme for 2001 was so good I am carrying it over again. Thus, my theme is NO TIME FOR FAKE ONES.

period.end.exclamation point.

That's exactly my plan!!! In order for me to have children, I must be or have:

Married
A job in the field of my choice, which is either entertainment law or corporate law for at least two years
Living out of NY state (preferrably in ATL!!! :D )
Out of my parent's house

These goals may seem unreachable b/c anything can happen at any given time, but if I can avoid situations that may hinder me from accomplishing my goals, then I'll be fine. :D

ttt for the '04

NOWorNEVER 12-31-2003 04:33 AM

I'd have to call mine, Joy in store for 2004 because right now I am so unhappy and I don't know why. It's taking me so long to accomplish the things that I want to do and it's depressing me. Add to that, I'm lonely. It shouldn't be like this at all. I'm twenty-two. I should be content and living my life to the fullest.

rho4life 12-31-2003 02:27 PM

My motto for 2004 "I can't buy more shoes until I buy a house/condo to put them in"

I just signed my new lease, and seeing how much money I'm putting in someone else's pocket really motivated me to put my efforts into buying a place.

We are going to have similiar themes. I have way to much stuff to not own a house!!! I just got married this summer and I am 26 but I feel like I should be on the way to owning a house! So this year my theme is I am a Grown Up Now! the little vacation of I finished school and have a little jingle (thats what we call money) is over. It's time to get my life organized. So yesterday I went to the bank and opened a 12 month payroll deducted CD , that means I can't touch it for a year, so I should have a down payment by next December cause I am not paying no penalities to get my own money. I got copies of my credit report, and even made an eye appointment, doctot appointments and dentist appointments. Now I need to go clean my house.......

Mine is straight up Love Don't Live Here Anymore. I am through with relationships. They are for the birds. It seems like the more I try to make a relationship work, it goes to hell in a handbasket. I keep going through the same cycles over and over and I am tired. I am resigned to the fact that relationships are not meant for me. I think that I am just one of those people that God has predetermined to be single forever.

I have always been a person that looks for love or feels "inadequate" without a man. But then, when I had given up on love and wasn't even looking for a relationship, a man came into my life and I thought that maybe God was trying to let me know that he was the one. Well, he wasn't.

Relationships are pointless to me now and I am facing that fact. That's why from this year on, I am going to completely focus on myself and advancing my careers and personal endeavors.

"A goal, without a plan or hard work, remains just a dream."

Goals for the 04:

1. A closer walk with God
2. Commit to my writing
3. Re-focus (and grow) the investment portfolio

Love_Spell_6 01-01-2004 07:17 PM

My theme

Its good to see so many other folks go with themes over resolutions. I have 2..one is (and I believe someone else has this too) Stop talking about it and be about it!! I have so many positive things I want to do and its time for me to start putting those things in motion instead of daydreaming about them. My second is to Stop dwelling on the things I DON'T have and be thankful for what I DO have! Its so easy for the enemy to take your eyes off of what's important...

I'm ready for '04! Bring on the blessings!:)

nikki1920 01-01-2004 08:27 PM

My goals for 2004 can all be summed up with the following phrase: IT'S ALL ABOUT ME!!!!

1. getting rid of all the toxic people, places and things
2. creating a better financial picture
3. getting better acquainted with my new church and the Lord in '04!!

oh, and to get myself ready to buy a condo at the end of 2004.
