sorority
I went to a small school in boca raton florida called lynn university and there was phi mu so i was initiated and then the chapter was cancelled and then i transfered to a school that didnt have greek life and then i think i am going to transfer to one that does do i still have to be in phi Mu?
|
ummm.
1) FIU still has Phi Mu, they weren't "cancelled." 2) If your campus has Phi Mu and you chose to participate in Greek life, yes, you would have to be in Phi Mu. It would be up to that chapter whether or not they would affiliate you, though. Unless you resign, you will be a Phi Mu. And even if you do resign, you will not be able to join another NPC sorority. |
^^Not FIU, I did a little searching I think I figured out the school

If my guess is correct, it appears as though the Phi Mu colony at this school was never chartered (found a few posts about it here on GC). Phi Mus, do you guys initiate before a chapter is installed? If not, then OP is not a member...?

sorority
so i would i have to be in phi mu. what would be some of the reasons to why they maybe wouldn't affiliate you into their chapter
|
i have a badge so i think after they decide what girls they want they give you the badges

Oy, my head hurts, someone take over. ETA: Since the OP edited her original post to include the name of the school, I guess this is safe to post now: http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...=105222&page=4 They're talking about Lynn at the top of the page. A member confirms that the colony was never chartered. I guess I should let Phi Mus take over and handle the questions from here :) |
I would suggest that you contact Phi Mu Headquarters and inquire as to your
membership status. If the colony was never installed, there's a good chance that you were never initiated. If you were never initiated, then you are free to participate in recruitment and pledge another NPC chapter. I've never heard of an NPC "giving" anyone badges. Pledge/new member pins yes, badges no. |
i meant to say pins
|
do you think 23 is too old
|
She says she was initiated and has a badge. That seems strange, but I don't know what happened at Lynn.
|
im going to call the phi mu headquarters and talk to them about it. do any of you think twenty three is too old
|
That all depends on whether or not you want to spend a lot of time with a bunch of 18 year old freshmen.

age
i dont mind i have alot of friends that are younger then me

The age thing really depends on the campus. At a traditional campus like Florida, FSU, or UCF, the chances of you pledging being 23 are probably pretty slim. But if you're at a non-traditional/commuter campus that has an older student population, it is entirely possible. We have heard of success stories here on GC, but these were not "live in the chapter house with 60 other girls and go to fraternity exchanges every weekend" kind of chapters.
But in any case, before you went through any recruitment, you need to get your story straight. Not knowing the difference between a pledge pin (or a colony pin - or is Alpha Xi the only one that has those?) and a badge is gonna make you look, well, dumb to any sororities who'd be rushing you. You need to know your status clearly and without question so that 1-you know what you're doing is legal in the eyes of NPC and 2-you can explain it to others. |

How could someone not know if they've been initiated or not? Did you or did you not have to bite the head off the sacrificial seagull while wearing a sparkly pink catsuit and bat wings?
(I'm teasing ya :) ) |

OP: 1. You shared way too much info in your threads. 2. Close your Facebook up. |

No, you don't HAVE to be a Phi Mu member. You might be lucky & be invited to affiliate with the chapter. You might not. There are lots and lots of reasons why you might not be invited to affiliate. First figure out whether or not you were actually initiated. Then go forward, hopefully with a much different attitude than you are showing here. |
