Movies that disappointed you
In this thread we chit chat about movies that we thought looked good based on the trailer/a book/what others have said about it etc. but when you went to see it, you were disappointed and thought it was awful. It doesn't have to be a current movie. It can be on DVD etc.
I'm sure I can think of a few, but so far, right now, I'm going to say "Are you afraid of the dark". I didn't like that one at all. |
In my opinion...
"Lawrence of Arabia" 1962
"The Little Prince" 1974 "Annie Hall" 1977 "My Dinner With Andre" 1981 "Blue Velvet" 1986 |
A couple of the Harry Potter movies were really disappointing. I remember watching one of them and (maybe movie 4 or 5) thinking that it wouldn't have made much sense without reading the book first.
I also HATED the Keira Knightly version of Pride and Prejudice. Then again, after the 1995 BBC version, nothing could even come close... |

And I just have to say it again:  |

Momma Mia -- the second worst movie I have ever seen.

But along those lines...I was COMPLETELY disappointed by The Graduate. The other one was Beverly Hills Cop. I saw it after all the hype and just didn't think it was as hilarious as everyone said. |
JUNO. Way too over-hyped for me. And I hated the gimmicky "witty" dialogue. And I didn't like any of the characters. Maybe if everyone hadn't told me it's the BEST MOVIE EVARRRRRRR... but probably even so.

Also pretty much anything Coen Brothers or Wes Anderson. They try WAY too hard to be "quirky." |
Any movie that was based off a book I read previously. Every single one of them.
|
Sex & The City 2
It was so bad, I asked the theatre for a refund. |

And most, if not all, movies starring Jennifer Aniston. Love her, hate her movies. |
No Country For Old Men. Couldn't stand it. And, every movie that ends with an ambiguous ending. I figure, why did I pay money to see a story you didn't bother finishing??
|
The Strangers -- awful
|
Drag Me to Hell
The Evil Dead series I'm sure I will think of more. These are the ones that haven't faded from my mind yet. Quote:

Inception and The Matrix. Those two movies were awful. I walked out in the middle of both.

I liked both of those.:o |

If they do a SATC3, I will bump the SATC2 thread and further discuss how horrid it was. |

Not sure if I'd add The Help to this list. Loved the book and I didn't hate the movie, but it didn't do for me what it did for my friends who didn't read the book. |

Freaking hilarious! I freaked out at that part, too. Everyone had the same reaction! How did you find that? That was the best! :p I didn't like The Black Swan. That movie was so overrated, and I thought it was going to be so good. I was kind of disappointed in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, too. It was okay, but not as good as I thought it was going to be. |
@DrPhil - Sheeeeeit! :mad:

ETA: Ditto Black Swan. That was one of the worst movies ever. I hated it more than SATC2. I've sung this song on GC many times. |

Star Wars Episode II--Attack of the Clones.
Horrible, awful, watched it once in the theater and will never watch it again. Did I mention how downright terrible it was? |

Love the 1995 BBC version. If you haven't seen the remastered version, it is definitely worth the $$$. |
Appaloosa, Ocean's 12, Catch and Release, The Bucket List
|
1408 is on television. Add that to the list.

Don't even get me started on all Pirates of the Caribbean sequals.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Up Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Emma (the Gwenyth Paltrow version) |
This is kind of reaching back a few decades, but:
The book Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe is amazing. AMAZING. The movie was cute, nicely done and well cast but didn't hold a candle to the book. The movie version of The Prince of Tides. Streisand as Lowenstein? No. Just no. Saw the stage versions Driving Miss Daisy and Steel Magnolias long before they hit the screen - and was pleasantly surprised with both adaptations. DMD, especially - because the stage play is very minimalist - and I just knew Dan Ackroyd would suck as Boolie. Wrong. He nailed it. I have gone to the movies since 1994, I swear. |
