I know a lot of the GLO mascots but I don't know them ALL! So what's your mascot and/or flower? Do you have a chapter mascot as well? How about the BGLO's?!?!

Hey Hootie!!

Since I belong to a sorority for predominantly ag majors (Sigma Alpha) our mascot is Perry, the baby bull.

Our colors are emerald and maize. Our flower is the yellow crysanthemum and our jewel is the emerald.

Hope that answers all of your questions. Have a great day and a great weekend!!!

Allison

The primary symbols of Alpha Chi Omega:
Lyre (we were originally founded as a musical sorority)
Red Carnation

Also used are three stars (which are a part of our crest), musical notes (seen sometimes on paraphernalia)...

We are one of the few org.s that do not have an animal as a national symbol, but many chapters select one that is unique to the school. At U.Texas, the chapter's animal is a koala bear, and I have heard of another Alpha Chi chapter that uses an alligator!

Isn't Texas A&M's Alpha Chi mascot an alligator? We don't have a chapter mascot, but I've even seen some use an angel, holding a lyre, as a mascot...I've seen it on webpages.

Actually, ZTA does not have a 'national' mascot per se other than the ZTA Lady - a Southern Belle type silhouette with Zeta Tau Alpha spelled out to form the skirt.

When I was at Univ. of NE-Omaha, the ZTAs used a ladybug as our local mascot. It changed to bunnies and is now a zebra.

Another symbol for ZTA is the strawberry.

Hey Texas Alum - Email me!!

The chapter I advise used to have a teddy bear for our local mascot, but now we use the butterfly (I'm glad too, because the teddy bear is so over used and we wanted something a little different).

AX's official tree/shrub/whatever is the holly bush too.

I love having the red carnation - its beautiful, long lasting, and doesn't cost a fortune to buy like roses...LOL http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Especially when your family is as big as mine!

Our Phi Mu group at my undergrad school used the ladybug, lion, and cow for their mascots -- very weird having 3.

Hi Barb -- I cannot believe the bunny is unofficial for ZTA -- I have always seen it everywhere so I just assumed it was. Thanks for the scoop!

Hey, Hootie,

I'm no longer in Omaha, I live in Tallahassee now. Home of the disputed election, LOL.

2 of my best friends at UNO were Chi-O's, Charlotte Fimple and Annette Benish. I don't suppose you have a contact person in your alumnae chapter or an alumnae roster? I've lost touch with them over the years.

I was at UNO in the early/mid-80's and actually ran against Jamie Rizzuto for homecoming queen one year. :-)

Stay warm...I hear it's been beastly cold up there!

My chapter of Alpha Chi Omega used the penguin as our symbol.

It actually is perfect. At Christmastime, everything is red, green and gold (yellow)---our official colors. It's AMAZING the red, green and yellow penguin items you can buy for really cheap the day after Christmas. That's when I did all my little sis shopping. I had some really cute stuff.

Many chapters use the angel. We couldn't because we have pi phi at our school and that is their official symbol.

I now collect all sorts of penguin items. I'm penguin obsessed!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I think that is AWESOME that your philanthropy is animal welfare. I've always had a special place in my heart for animals. even killing an ant breaks my heart (literally!!!). I'd love to hear about the different things you do to support them.
