A Fall 2011 recruitment story!
hi GC! I'll be going through fall recruitment pretty sooooon at a southern school :) Our fall recruitment is in September so I have a few more weeks to grab my last minute outfits and finish up my research on our campus sororities. My school has 10 chapters and if you DO figure out what school i go to DON'T SAY IT! just pm me but please respect my discretion.
I'm very excited about this process as i'm the first person in my family to go greek and am going in with an open mind. The tent talk (ha, lingo i've learned through GC) has already started, but i'm ignoring it because again, i'll only form opinions when i actually meet the different sororities in person! well, i'll end my rambling and follow GC fashion and assign code names to the chapters at my school. I'll be using zodiac signs :) They are as follows: Capricorn Aries Gemini Cancer Pisces Scorpio Sagittarius Aquarius Libra Taurus Stay tuned! |

day 1
Alright So Day 1 was a LOOOOONG day! I was anxious all day waiting for rounds to start and when the time came I was super excited, nervous, and scared all at the same time. I had no idea what to expect but was going in with an open mind. I walked to my groups meeting spot and we all walked together to the first house which was Capricorn. When we got to Capricorn, I noticed how amazingly beautiful the house was! Everyone lined up outside the house and we had our calling cards ready so that one of the sister’s would announce our name and be matched up with a girl when we went into the house. so we line up outside the house and wait...and wait...and then we hear banging, screaming, shouting, and their cheer from inside their house. so while we stand outside and hear their cheer and see their blinds shaking, they finally finish and file out in their outfits! (I can’t tell you what they wore b/c it would so give it away) so the line starts moving, I get to the president, she gets my name card, and introduces me to Monica* Monica is adorable and is all smiling and super nice. she leads me into the house, sits me down b/c they have to prepare for another song and she tells me she'll come back and get me when they finish their cheer. oh she also gave me some water haha. so i sit, she cheers then she comes back to find me. we end up talking about the basics - name, where im from, what i did this summer, where i live and it went by so fast! i was bumped by another girl who was equally sweet and adorable. while we got into our convo, the bell rang and it was time to go. i had an ok time in this house and would like to go back to get a deeper connection.
ok so we all file out, say goodbye and we walk to the next house which is: Aries. soooo we walk a good ways down the street to their house and we wait for them to start cheering/screaming/banging on doors and windows and they file out. we walk down the line and get paired up with a girl and i get paired up with a pretty brunette named Joss* their house was gorgeous and had colorful balloons everywhere. we sat on the floor and enjoyed a lil dance they did and we got up to go in the parlor to talk. on the way to the parlor she asks about my nametag and i say its to represent my birthday flips the hell out b/c her bday is the same as mine! lol so we have a huge time gushing over that and we talk a bit about my summer and i get bumped by like 3 more girls! Actually i think i may have talked to 5 diff girls in that house but i felt like everyone was nice and genuinely interested in what i had to say. so also another overall great time. the time flew by and i didnt want to leave! ok so after theeeeere, we walk over to Gemini (looord only the 3rd house and 7 more to go....and it was SO hot! everyone was sweaty =/ lol) so ok, we get to Gemini and I remember their theme was super cute and I enjoyed the look of their home! my first girls name was Kate* and she was mega nice. i got bumped by 2 more girls here and they all seemed pretty genuine and nice. the last girl did say she didnt enjoy recruitment when she did it so that kinda made me feel weird b/c i was having so much fun. overall, i'd like to see them again just to get a better feel. If I wasn’t invited back, I would be fine because I just felt kind of iffy here. next house was Cancer. I talked to maybe 3 girls here and the two that stood out were named Lydia* and Samantha*. Their theme was pretty cool and it seemed like they enjoyed each other it looked like they loved it in their chapter. i wrote a note that everyone was really laid back and i could see myself fitting in. By this time it was super hot and humid and I was thanking the Lord we got a break for dinner! We still had 6 more places to go and I still had my energy up but I was just wishing for the sun to go down! During the break, all 700 rushee’s went to go eat and there was MASSIVE TENT TALK! I mean jeeeeez! It was ridiculous, but I ignored it b/c I didn’t want them killing my joy. so after dinner, we go to the 5th house which is Pisces. one thing i will say is that they were all tall, blonde, and gorgeous! i didnt think id fit in. they dressed up and looked great that night in comparison to my t-shirt and shorts =/. i got rushed by a beautiful blonde and felt self conscious for the first time in...years! it felt strange, but when i started talking to her i was comfortable again. i got bumped by 2 or 3 more girls and then it was over. one girl was really interested in my travels and i left feeling a bit unsure when i was going to the next house. ok house number 6 was Scorpio. Their house was awesome and they went all out! The tent talk for this house was horrible, but i was anxious to give them a try. Their theme was….interesting and the minute I walked in I felt like I was going to go deaf from all the whistle blowing and cheering! Lol After their skit/dance I talked to the first girl here. She was….not the sharpest tool in the tool box…but nice. After talking to her, I got bumped by 2 other girls and the connection was just not there! The round here felt sooooo long and it was only 15 min! I knew this wasn’t the place for me. House number 7 was Sagittarius. when i got here i was like looord, please be good b/c that was an epic fail after the last house. the girl i was paired up with instantly asked me 'what i was interested in' and i was shocked b/c it was the first time someone asked me that instead of the same old "where are you from, whats your major". So I told her and we had an AMAZING conversation! She was extremely interested in what I had to talk about and the convo flowed so smoothly. After we talked for a lil bit she sat me down so she could cheer and then came back so we could immediately pick up where we left off in our convo. . i REALLY clicked with her and we didnt want to stop talking! i got bumped by an equally awesome girl who was equally interested in me and we talked so long that when the round was over we were still talking and all her sisters were looking like..."uhm...its over.” I absolutely LOVED it here and didn’t want to leave! House number 8 was Aquarius and the girls here were nice and laid back. Everyone was smart and really genuine. The round here sped by because I was bumped by 6 or 7 different girls! I was bumped so fast I couldn’t connect with anyone at all. This house was meh. I wouldn’t be mad if they didn’t invite me back. house number 9 (by this time im running on adrenaline b/c its like 930pm by now) ok so this is Libra. When I got to this house I felt like the girls were just ‘meh’ because it was late and I’m sure they were tired. They weren’t as engaging and one girl asked if I heard about the upperclassmen quota and I felt like she was making me out to be a ‘quota filler’. I just felt awkward and the next girl was just as bad. I told her I loved traveling and she goes on to say she hates it….(awkward silence ensues) I was glad to get out of this house! Lol LAST HOUSE OMG! I’m getting tired just thinking about this day all over again. So when I finally get to Taurus i really wanted to like them but i felt kinda luke warm to em. maybe b/c it was way too many girls in there, or i didnt click with anyone or maybe b/c it was the last house and everyone was drained? but the convo i had was kinda dry. the last house kinda sucked b/c i know EVERYONE was tired across the board. but i still ranked them in the bottom =/ so in no order here is how i ranked everyone: Top 7 Capricorn Aries Gemini Cancer Pisces Sagittarius Aquarius Bottom 3 Libra Taurus Scorpio I’ll be back tomorrow with day 2!! *names have been changed! |

day 2 - skit round!
Day 2!
So today was Skit day and it was sooo much fuuuuuuun! ☺ So just like on day one, I go to my meeting spot and wait to receive my schedule. We could’ve gotten called back to a max of 7 houses and when I got my schedule I had 6 rounds that day! When I looked at my schedule at first, it took me a moment to notice which houses I wouldn’t be going back to. But after I realized who I didn’t get invited back to, I was ok because I couldn’t see myself there! So here’s who asked me back: Libra Taurus Pisces Aries Sagittarius Capricorn So house number one was Libra and I honestly did NOT want to go back! But I sucked it up and said, ‘hey maybe it’ll be better since I saw them near the end on day 1.’ So I arrive at the house, the girls file out and we go on inside. We went to a room to be seated (on the floor! I had on a dress… =/) for the skit. I watched their skit which was pretty cute and funny and then I talked to one of their sisters. She was nice and bubbly and she got really excited when I told her I enjoyed the skit. When we talked it felt..forced and I was thankful when I got bumped to another girl. I also tried to let the convo go on it’s own course but felt like I had to keep it moving because the girl was kinda blah. Sigh I don’t like this house you guys. For round two, I went to Taurus. Now I think they were giving me another chance since I saw them at the very end of day 1. When I got there, I was seated in a large room for their skit which was sooooo HILAROUS! I literally laughed the whole skit. The girls were having a great time and I liked all of their personalities. When the skit was over I was able to talk to two different girls. The second girl stood out the most because we had sooo much in common and were from the same city! She really won me over and had me reconsider this house. I was pleasantly surprised! House 3 was Pisces and I was equally surprised because on day one I reallllly couldn’t see myself there. But I was thankful they gave me another shot to get to know them a little better. Their skit was pretty good and really creative, I enjoyed it. The girl I ended up talking to seemed really standoffish and not really interested in what I had to say. I left this house feeling out of my element in a bad way. House 4 was Aries and I absolutely LOVED their skit. Now I thought house 2’s skit was hilarious, but I honestly have to say that this skit was absolutely awesome. After the skit, I was told that many sisters had talked about me and ‘raved’ about me and one sister had INSISTED she talk to me and walk me out at the end! I was excited that they liked me just as much as I enjoyed them! I left this house absolutely in love with everyone and hoped I got an invite for day 3 ☺! House 5 was Sagittarius which I had loved since day 1. Every time I walked into this house it just felt like home. When I got there I talked to 3 different girls and they were all awesome. There skit was funny, but definitely hard to top the previous house. When I was here, the two girls I talked to on day one were excited to see me back and even girls I hadn’t talked to yet were happy to see me! Many came up to me and said they heard great things about me and that they hoped they’d see me the next day so they could talk to me. Also, this was the only house that went over financial info. I had honestly forgot it was skit AND financial day until this house brought it to my attention! I left this house still very much in love! House 6 was Capricorn and their skit was pretty good as well. But the whole time I was there, I couldn’t help but look around and think that I really couldn’t see myself there. The girls I talked to were all nice (of course) and they seemed interested in me but I still had a blasé feeling to everyone all of a sudden. I went back to my meeting spot to fill out my pref card and it looked a little like this: Top 5 (in no order) Taurus Pisces Aries Sagittarius Capricorn Bottom 1 Libra |

day 3 - house tours
so on day 3 I got called back to
Libra Aries Sagittarius 1st house I head to is Aries. I was sooo excited to go back to this house because it was absolutely gorgeous and with this being house tours I was totally pumped! When I got inside I was introduced to an adorable girl and she had said she’d heard great things about me and proceeded to go on the tour. We talked about many things and we really hit it off. The food here was awesome and after the time I was here I didn’t want to leave! 2nd house was my Libra. When I walked up to the house I wasn’t particularly excited because I just knew it was going to be bad. BUT I pepped up, and went in with an open mind. I hoped someone would wow me on the house tour buuuut…it didn’t happen. The girl I was walking with was showing me and another PNM around and she didn’t click with either of us. The time here dragged by and I didn’t really enjoy my time here…again. On the way to house three, mother nature decided to unleash a torrential downpour so needless to say me and all the other rushees got completely SOAKED! It was a disaster! So by the time everyone got to their house, we ran in to dry off and clean up a bit and waited about 20 min for the next round to start. Round 3 was Sagittarius. And when I walked in, it instantly felt like home (again). I loved the house tour here and I enjoyed seeing all the girls I had talked to on the previous days. I learned a lot about their philanthropy and I could really see myself getting involved in their cause. Sooo needless to say I filled out my pref card like this: Top 2 Sagittarius Aries Bottom 1 Libra PREF NIGHT IS NEXT! |

sorry I’ve dragged this out! I’ve been super busy but lets wrap this up here!
Pref night! So I go to my meeting spot and I receive my list only to find these two houses on the list: Sagittarius Libra Aries totally dropped me! Needless to say I was devastated, but then I realized that I’ve loved Sagittarius from day 1 so I was still pretty pumped. I did NOT want to go back to Libra b/c I knew it just wouldn’t be good. So I head on over to Sagittarius and am ushered back to a very dark room. I assumed it was ritual stuff and yes…I was right! I sit down and listen to a few of the girls that tell why they enjoy their sorority and I really got to connect with one of the girls stories. It was really refreshing and was a good start to the evening. After the sisters told their separate stories, I was paired up with the sister I met at the door and we go up to her room to have a chat. When we get to her room she goes on to tell me she’s heard a lot about me and that she had a card waiting for me that had quick little messages from the girls I’d met earlier that week. It was soooo nice! I really connected with the girl I was paired up with and I really didn’t want to leave. That hour went by way too fast! Right after house one, I head to my last house of the day which is Libra. I keep an open mind and arrive with a smile on my face. I stood in my lines position outside of the house and anxiously waited to go inside to see how the night would be. The girls file outside of the house and then I get paired up with a sister that I haven’t seen that week. She seemed nice and we immediately go inside and go to her room to talk a little bit. She asked me a few generic questions and every time I spoke she would look off in the distance…she just seemed so disinterested in what I was saying. I also practically had to steer the conversation at one point. After about 30 min. or so, we head downstairs to embark on the ritual stuff and I learn a bit more about the other sisters reason for joining their sorority. They got really emotional and started crying. I really felt like they had this strong bond that I just could not connect with. After the ritual it was time to leave and I ran to my meeting spot to fill out my pref card. At the meeting spot I was really faced with the decision to suicide but I chose not to. Needless to say my card looked like this: 1st Sagittarius 2nd Libra |
