Phi Delt was well respected when I was at Texas A&M in the early/mid 90's
|
Jon,
I go to Miami University. I think going dry hurt your brothers a little here. At least that is the feeling I get from others. They also have a wonderul looking house on the outside, but I've heard they do not do a very good job of keeping it up on the inside from those who have been in it (i never have personally). |
The Phi Delts at UBC are a great group of guys, very friendly and down to earth. They are one of the smaller chapters - and going dry definately has hurt them a bit, but overall they are an awesome chapter.
|
At pretty much every school in texas Phi Delta Theta Rocks. I have visited Tech, UT, SMU, TCU, etc, and they are the best chapters. My natls. is a bit jealous that we arent as good in Texas at PDT is.
|
One of my good friends is a Consultant for Phi Delta Theta IHQ. He's been traveling the Texas chapters this mth and always raves at how big and good they are. Texas Tech has gotten in a bit of trouble, but they aren't hurting for #'s at the moment.

Florida State
Phi Delt is very strong in Florida. They're excellent at U-Florida, and their FSU chapter won the Havard Trophy for the best PDT chapter in the country. Here at FSU they have the Student Body pres and the IFC pres. Burt Reynolds was a PDT here in the 1950s. I'm in another fraternity, but I admire the Phi Delts.

Yeah, Phi Delts aren't that bad, considering they were the second fraternity founded at Miami U. Just kiddin, Phi Delts are cool, and old school. We don't have them here at our campus, but if there was an interest group formed, I wish they would choose Phi Delt!
Miami Triad baby! |
I've encountered Phi Delts on my campus and on my bf's campus. On mine they seem to be nice enough guys, but they are not involved in anything. You never see them in any all campus event. I guess they like to keep to themselves. However, I've talked to a few on my bf's campus and they were all sweethearts. I love them to death.
|
Phi Delts were very well respected and good guys in general at my school.
|
ZZ,
Yeah, Betas aren't that bad either considering you are the seventh oldest fraternity and we are the sixth... :) Kiddin'. But I must say, the Betas here at Miami are doing very well after coming back a couple years ago. Very very nice house too. |
Phi Delts in Iowa State University is a big house, around 60 people live there. In my opinion, they are good in Varieties and Greek Week (the lip-sinc). So, music and dance are big in the house, I guess.
Some, but not many members involved in campus, and every Phi Delts I know are cool guys. So, yeah, I would say they are cool house here in ISU. |
My campus (North FL) does not have a Phi Delt chapter, however I have met some from UF and another university here in Jacksonville, and they are all awesome guys. Plus a Phi Delt (George Banta) helped DG get started...so I gotta give you guys props for that!!
DG love, Mary |
Nice..............DU is cool too, I guess?! Just kidding!
I visited our Alpha House this past summer, and you're right, it is pretty sweet. From what I have heard, they have stormed the MU campus since they have been back. I like Phi Delts so much, I have graced my friend, who is a Phi Delt, with standing up in my wedding. I told him, that is the only way he will get his paddle back that I ripped off from him. PS, my buddie is a Phi from Lawrence University, the same chapter that George Banta was from. The Banta family is well known in this area, and support that campus financially like no other. Quote:

Yeah, my uncle is a Phi Delt Alum from U of MD. My big brother and I partied with the UVA Phis one time(midwinters) and had a sweet time. Yeah, I wish they'd start an interest group at my old school too.
Miami Triad baby! P.S. Thanks for cutting us some slack. ha ha. |
Phi Delt was strong at Arizona State. Unfortunately they got kicked off about 4 years ago. Their house is beautiful, Frank Lloyd Wright (who was also a Phi Delt) designed it. TKE took it over, so we are all wishing that Phi Delts will come back to ASU and reclaim their rightful house.
|
The Phi Delts on the University of Alberta Campus are a great group of men. :)
|
All I need now in my family to complete the Miami Triad is a Phi Delt (so far there's one Beta and 2 Sigma Chis...) :D . I know it's kinda off topic but it was something that just dawned on me now....

Very Cool :D

Phi Delts at Nebraska
I guess it would be unfortunate for you, but the Phi Delts here at Nebraska are on their way to dieing out.
I'm not sure exactly what happened, but I think they went through a reorganization around the same time that we here at Beta did, and theirs has been unsuccessful. I think now they have only 8-10 guys, and maybe one pledge at most, if at all. I know they were offering 1000 dollar scholarships to anyone who signed, but they cant afford their house so it really hurt them--it's unfortunate because their house has a really cool glass spiral staircase that was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. They still use it I guess but not very often. Within a couple of years they are goign to be extinct. |
The PhiDelts live above me in out dorm and they are really nice guys, but they are definately in danger of going away, although they might have almost 20 guys now they were down to 12 for a while its sad...:(

PHI DELTS ROCK AT CSUN in california. SWEETHEARTS and the best fraternity on campus....not to mention cuties! They have a fairly large house total, and they did soo well with rush this semester (20 guys). Very strong house and Awesome guys :D I LUV THEM!!!
|
We don't have Phi Delts here, but that doesn't surprise me because we only have 8 fraternities if you include IFC, NPHC, and the Multicultural. It would be nice to have some more Greek variety on-campus.

When I went to SMU I saw the Phi Delts doing something interesting in their backyard/couryard whatever you call it early in the morning....I was on my way to work out down the street. It involved tighty-whiteys...so that's my lasting impression of Phi Delt. That and casino party which they used to peddle shirts for even to people who weren't going.

SH80er,
I don't know him personally, but I know of him. Theta Chi is right across the street from us. I remember I was flipping through channels and came upon MTV over the summer and saw him. I knew I had seen him somewhere, turned out I had seem him around campus and at our gym. Never really watched the show though. |
thanks for all your replies. ive related some stories to my bros and we all hate when chapters start to die as ours almost did., but im sure we'll prevail in the end.

Phi Delts
We have Phi Delts here at Cal Poly, SLO and just had an exchange with them for Halloween. They were fun and crazy guys, but I don't think we'd do another event with them. They brought along tramps that they labeled their "little sisters" to a closed Theta event, even after they were told to leave, the brothers refused and they stayed, creating a very non-friendly seen, needless to say, we hung out with the fabulous and friendly Theta Chi's that night who were gentlemen.

I was really bummed about the exchange, too. I had met the president and a few other guys a few weeks earlier when we gave up our table at a local pizza place to them. They seemed super nice and excited about the exchange. It was our first event with them, and didn't know what to expect, and well, they just weren't the greatest bunch of guys. Oh wells, maybe it was an off night, 18 other fraternities to do stuff with, and there's only 5 other sororities for them to choose from, their loss! I'm sure not all chapters are the same, different people, different houses. Good luck with your house, and I hear the Thetas there rock! |
On my campus, Phi Delts are very 'closed'. If that makes any sense. They have very tight control over their members, and one of the restrictions is that they are not allowed to date Sigmas. Yes, that's what I said. Not allowed to date us. (I think it stems from about 10 years ago-there was a falling out between one of us and one or two of them, and they spread so much untruth about us that our chapter size reduced by half in the span of two years :( ) (Not a problem any more, though, we are initiating to quota tomorrow night, and I believe we are the third largest house on campus again...:D )
We have not participated in a major event with them since 1995. This is very unusual, as we have 6 sororities and 9 fraternities (one of whom just got back on campus this semester, and three of which are small enough that they are always paired with another fraternity and a sorority). Greek Week pairs are chosen for us, and homecoming is done by fraternity invite. Seems fishy to me... What frustrates me the most about the whole situation is that their advisor is the campus Priest, whom I greatly respect. I don't think he knows about half the stuff they do when he's not around. I will say that they are not ALL like this-there is a very nice Phi Delt in my (very small) department who sat next to me in class last year and always says hello when he sees me on campus. (Granted, I don't fit the stereotype of what they think Sigmas are...but that shouldn't matter.) |
I had a friend who was a phi delt from sac state(alum) and we both worked at this group home in sacramento. He was a great guy. He went on to work for the chp.
|
I haven't met any of the Phi Delts here yet, but my sorority sisters have nothing but good things to say about them.
