For what? For whom?

I don't suppose you still have time to change that theme idea, do you?

I don't know why, but I keep having the image of a large slushy popping into my head. Go figure.

chefbml 08-01-2011 05:47 PM

ha we were trying to stay away from the glee theme. i was imagining something really 80s style with stars and crap? i thought somebody might have had a shirt like that already.

victoriana 08-01-2011 05:50 PM

Go with a black t-shirt with cyan, blue, and white ink. Write out "don't stop believing" in a cool font and then have your organization's name under it. Use lightning bolts, paint splatters and halftone.

I say this as someone who was in college when "Don't Stop Believin'" first came out (and boy do I feel old now): I think it's probably impossible to avoid the Glee connection these days. I mean, even if you don't incorporate it at all into the shirt, it's the first think most people will think of anyway.

But that said, you'd get responses that are more helpful if you answered AnotherKD's questions. For what and for whom do you want these shirts?

AnotherKD 08-01-2011 06:43 PM

I thought Sopranos before Glee. (Never saw Glee... But man, I loved the resurgence of that song after that crappy ending of that show!)

PiKA2001 08-01-2011 06:56 PM

I only thought of Journey, I've never watched Glee or Sopranos.

You all can go to hell.

Yes, but I don't think that either of you are part of the target demographic for this tee shirt -- college students. And I think the typical college student, born well after Journey's heyday, will associate the song with Glee.

And you are both out of touch with contemporary pop culture. So there. Ha! :p

My mind immediately went to Family Guy

And I will completely agree with you! I can't help it if my mind is stuck in the 90s and I think people like Jordan Catalano, and not any of the current popular tv characters, make my heart melt. :)

I don't want to wish anyone else to go to hell, haha, but Journey was my very first thought too.

I don't associate it with Glee. I have never been nor do I think I will ever be a Gleek. I've been in show choirs, and that ain't it. I do think Sue's character is funny though, and what a lovely name too. ;)

If it's a recruitment shirt and you're not going for the glee angle the back should say "Journey with OUR super group"

Yeah! Or "We'll replace you with an 18 year old Filipino in due time!"

(Also I looked this up afterwards - holy balls that dude is old, I had no idea - I fully thought he was half the age of the rest of the band when they added Pineda ... )

lol

Also, I'm a college student & I thought Journey?
I don't see why the song would be connected to Glee. Yes they recorded a version of it, but Glee does tons of song covers....
Doesn't make them their songs...

33girl 08-01-2011 09:07 PM

Sorry gang, but this makes me think of the Steelers first and foremost. Everything else is secondary.

Okay, okay, so maybe I overestimated how connected it is to Glee, and (I'm glad to say) underestimated recognition of Journey.

But as for Glee, yes, they've done lots of covers, but "Don't Stop Believin'" was pretty much the theme song for the first season, sung first as the climax of the pilot (which aired in May before the season really got started in September, but which got lots of internet play) again mid-season, and then a third time the high point of Regionals in the Season 1 finale. It was also the first single they ever released, and was used throughout Season 1 in commercials and promos.

Why do you know this?

LOL.

I admit it -- I love the show. (Or at least loved Season 1. Season 2 was more iffy.)

My name is MysticCat, and I'm a Gleek. I also love Broadway musicals: Sirius XM Channel 72 -- "On Broadway" -- keeps me very happy, and I can have a show tune for almost every occasion.

I am comfortable with who I am.

I have to admit, I don't really get this criticism. I've been in courtrooms lots and lots, and most if not all legal shows bear little resemblance to what trials, or the practice of law, are really like. They'd be beyond boring if they were to true to life. I'd bet doctors can say the same about medical shows and law enforcement types about police shows.

These are fictional shows designed to entertain and tell a story, not documentaries about real life.

Well that's probably part of it for me. I'd rather watch a documentary than reality TV any day. Plus I just think the whole story line is silly. I know a lot of my good friends like it, but I just never got into it. Give me House or Arrested Development or the Big Bang Theory and I'm a happy girl.

Love Big Bang Theory and Arrested Development. (House, not so much.) But I'd rather go to the dentist than watch a documentary. THey bore me to death.

Seriously, everybody has different tastes, and that's fine. It's just that when I hear someone say that they don't like a fictional TV show or movie because "that's not how it really is in real life," I kind of want to say "And that's different from all the other shows how?" But it's all good.

nolesgirl 08-02-2011 12:00 AM

MysticCat, this is the start of a beautiful friendship - I LOVE Glee and can't wait for the movie to come out, and love love love broadway musicals, in fact the Wicked soundtrack is whats in my car stereo right now lol

And to the OP, at my school a club I was in had Don't Stop Believing shirt (and the group who designed the shirts were going for the original song, not Glee) and they did black and had 'Don't Stop Believing' in neon writing on the front and 'In finding a cure' on the back (it was for Relay for Life)

ElieM 08-02-2011 01:13 AM

I was thinking you could use "Don't stop believing" on the front and then use the gleek finger "L" as part of your GLO letters - but of course that's pretty impossible unless you rotate it somehow - and do you really want to suggest that you are 'losers'?

I could see that being just adorable for Gamma Phi Beta. I dont think the L would be associated with losers as I think it's just become such a part of the name of the show.
