Heat Wave
today was probably the hottest day in the DFW area so far this summer in my opinion. i think we have a 25+ day of over 100 degrees in a row. our AC unit is working overtime! i should be use to it by now, but it still sucks especially when you want to go out and do things. anyone else?

The "heat dome" with indexes over 115 for over a week or so has broken here but today was hot. It's just not as bad as it was. Nothing like perspective.

I wish I could send you guys some of my weather. When I hear numbers like 125, I wince with pain. That sounds awful!
<----slightly smug about her location Seriously, I posted that one of my cousins in OK died in his apartment a couple of weeks ago because of the heat. Stay hydrated and be safe out there! |

This is what kills me about people saying they could never live in the Middle East because it's too hot. Right now it's 104 with a feels like of 118. BUT the city is built for it so you virtually never have to park in one of those ridiculous parking lots. It's almost always parking garages - still stifling but at least your steering wheel isn't on fire when you try to drive away. And then we have the most spectacular winters...

I've felt guilty complaining about the lack of summer when everyone else is sweltering, but gotta go with my wet side comrades on this one - I'm just thrilled we've actually had two pretty days in a row. Beginning to think summer and global warming had forgotten about us up here in the corner.
I had assured a foreign exchange student friend that things would get nice about the middle of June. He's probably ready to kill me about now. Peppy G-Phi - I hope you're right about the August -October thing, but last year it didn't seem like we got that either. |

We have had maybe 10 nice days so far. |
I think Michigan has had a pretty typical summer. A couple weeks of really hot (for us) including one day where we hit 100. Generally though, low of 70, high of 90 seems pretty average to me. It's humid as anything today though and I don't like the humidity.
Sad thing is, in a few short months it will be snowing. I'll take this weather over snowing. |

Things are starting to cool off in Ohio.
We hit the 100+ mark with the humidity in the past few weeks, but we're back down into the 80s here for now. Whew. The funny thing is, I'm from CA. People tease me and say "oh you should be used to this heat!" Um, no. My hometown gets one week of heat max, and "heat wave" in So Cal = 85. lol. |

My parents lived in a small apartment in downtown Dallas for 4 years (I was born there- Dallas that is - not the apartment), long before AC was common. They moved there in early August. They had one small ceiling fan. My mom still remembers my dad getting up all hours of the night to stick his head in the refridgerator. Not terribly helpful but better than his other solution - sprinkling water on the sheets:eek:. |

I have conflicting opinions on the heat wave. I really hate being cold and have always loved being outside in the heat. I grew up without air conditioning and don't mind being warm at all. (Though I will say that heat index of 120 requires a/c.)
But for whatever reason, I do a complete 180 and turn into a wilting flower when I have to run in the heat -- and I run a LOT. Usually 70-80 miles a week. I'm still getting my runs in, though slower, but what wouldn't I give for 60 degrees during that daily two-hour time window. |

This is one of the few cases where I'm very happy to not have been retained! |

I'm just so over this on all levels. My ac hasn't stopped running in 25+ days. My grass is dying and I've been watering everyday until the water restrictions started last week. The football teams are starting two a days and I'm scared for them. It's just entirely too hot to practice football, no matter how fanatical we Texans are about our Friday night football. |
A friend of mine from high school moved to Dallas for several years. When I asked her how she dealt with the heat, she said it was miserable. Then she said "Michigan and Texas are a lot alike. In both states, you have three months out of the year when you don't even want to be outside. The good thing about Michigan is that the kids are IN SCHOOL during that time. In Texas, they are stir crazy in the house all summer!" She was a SAHM and they were driving her nuts.
She lives in Michigan again now...lol. But yeah, I think 105+ is as miserable as 10 degrees is. Neither extreme is pleasant. |
^^^^^
Sums up perfectly why I never spent a pleasant moment in the state of Kansas. Too many summers and winters driving through that state on I-70. |

In North Carolina it has been almost as unbearable! Luckily it has been raining so it has tapped some of the humidity out of the air and brought some relief!
I used to live in Alabama, without air conditioning. People assume that this means that I am used to the heat and don't mind. It actually means that I never ever want to be near that hot and sweaty and miserable ever again. I hate visiting family that still doesn't have a/c, I can't sleep in that heat! |

Wooooooooow Texas. I wore a sweater to work today. I'm so sorry, Texans. |
