Auburn Recruitment Starts in 2 Weeks!!!
A big War Eagle to all!! Recruitment starts on the Plains in 2 weeks and we've already had several PNMs and moms post.
Advice to PNMs? Keep hydrated and keep your options open. Also, all those drop-dead gorgeous girls you see? They're as nervous as you are; they know that a bid, especially from 1 desired group, is not a sure thing for anyone. Don't let them get you down! Enjoy recruitment and let us know how you're doing! |
My daughter will one of those girls! I must admit...I'm ready for it all to be over and done!! She has a great attitude and is (hopefully) going into it with an open mind and heart. I feel pretty good about her recs.....she has at least one to 15/17.
I've enjoyed reading past recruitment stories and may try to do the same for her. At any rate, I'd love to hear from some more Auburn people! War Eagle! |
Getting very excited. Auburn recruitment is my second favorite time of the year (just behind Christmas!) I'm heading up there on Skit Day and staying through Bid Day. Can't wait to hear all about how the week is going. Curious if anyone will be posting on Twitter? It truly is an excellent tool to follow along during a live event. Trying to come up with a great #hashtag. Any suggestions?

Our daughter will be going through recruitment at AU. Very excited and already starting to pack her room.
|
I'm going down next week to help out my daughter's chapter with pre-recruitment chores. Good luck to all of the PNMs and their moms! It was an extremely stressful week for us a couple of years ago, but all worth it in the end!

Auburn PNM! Good luck to everyone!

I will be headed down to Auburn to help my DD's chapter for Ice Water Teas. It seems that Au Panhellenic has done a great job getting information out to the PMNs by using Twitter, Facebook, and the Recruitment handbook. I know this should really help them know what to expect and hopefully take away a little of the stress. I know current members have also also been working hard to ensure a successful recruitment for all!
For those of you discussing a twitter name - I know Auburn has a couple of ways to follow if anyone is interested. You can follow Auburn Panhellenic at AU_Panhellenic. They now also have an official hashtag for recruitment: #AURecruitment2011. Lastly, I was thinking of bringing some goodies for the sorority members but can't decide what would be best. I believe they have lunch taken care of. For those of you familiar with volunteering at recruitment, any suggestions as to what they may need or like to help get them through the busy week? |
snack foods-granola bars(or something similar), soft drinks, string cheese, fruit, juice boxes, m & m's, etc.

My wife will also be heading to Auburn in a few days to help with pre-recruitment and the first day of Ice Water Teas. I gave your Flavor-Ice and snack suggestions to her, FSUZeta and AUAZD.

Hey y’all!! So… Recruitment is in just a few days and I am incredibly nervous. Someone told me that because more girls are going through recruitment at Auburn is year that less girls are going to get a bid. Is this true or should I just ignore them? :(
|
the number of bids is based on the number of PNMs attending preference. Quota range is determined by dividing the number of PNMs by the number of chapters participating in recruitment.
For example, if there are 4 chapters and 20 PNMs then quota is 5, if there are 100 PNMs then quota is 25. |
In other words, ignore them. :) More girls are going to get bids, not less - as long as they all keep an open mind to all the sororities and don't pick favorites too early in rush.
|
My wife is headed to Auburn tomorrow to help with pre-recruitment and the first day of Ice Water Tea parties. I think she's taking Cliff Bars and Flavor-Ice with her.
|
hey auburn dad-welcome back!
|
What she said!
One of my pledge sisters will be taking her Alpha Chi daughter to Auburn today! The members are reporting back! |

Auburn Panhellenic has established a hashtag for Twitter. You can now easily search for posts about recruitment by using #AURecruitment2011. There's already a lot of posts. Looks like PNMs, Pi Chis and Active Sisters ar all posting.
|
Auburn recruitment starts in a few hours with the Pi Chi/PNM meetings! Any PNMs who are reading this, please take some deep breaths if you start to feel panicky about this new journey!:)
|
1311 girls are registered for Auburn's rush!!! Good luck to all!!
|
Bumping. I guess this will serve as our 2011 Big Auburn thread?
|
Hi. Our daughter started rush today. Half the day is over and an earlier message said that things are going well.
She has a friend who is rushing at Valdosta State soon so I'm anxiously waiting to see how that goes. |
Wow! I'd hate to be dragging from house to house in this heat! When I rushed at Auburn, we were on the quarter system and so classes and rush were in September--it was a bit cooler.
|
Just heard from her for a minute. In to get her wallet to go eat dinner with her group. She said it was so hot and such a long day but overall it went well. She said there were a few awkward moments but those were at the 3 or 4 houses she didn't find recs for. But those even eventually found a common subject. She talked about the number of girls in the Arena for convocation and will call back later tonight to go over her notes with me. I miss her so much. She's such a funny person to talk to. But I'm glad she's there and I'm glad she's having fun. I did ask her if it was everything she thought it was going to be and she said yes. She said as things narrow down it should get easier.
|
Ooohh...I just looked at the radar and noticed that some big storms are headed for the Loveliest Village of the Plains. Y'all stay dry!
Oh, and remember--recruitment is a mutual choice set up. The PNMs will be ranking the groups but not cutting them as the sororities are also reducing the number of girls invited back after each round of parties. The Pi Chis have probably explained that but there are often a bunch of confused PNMs on here after first parties wondering how they ended up going to groups that they thought they "cut". |
just spoke to our daughter again who is now back from dinner and resting. She has picked out her dress for tomorrow and is ready for bed. At 8 pm. (who would have guessed).
It's really odd that she said almost the same thing as wareagle (above). She had a great conversation time at 8 house and felt really strange at the other 2. She said at one of the odd situations she had a sophomore who just really seemed uncomfortable with initiating conversation and it wasn't the ideal setting. But she is keeping an open mind and looking forward to her short day tomorrow. She is making individual ratings of each sorority and will then make her picks based on how those came out. Noone is ever ruled out but some have higher "stars" than others. Definitely some early favorites. Houses where she seemed to feel things flowed better or it wasn't requiring as much, if any effort to keep the conversation going. She said they were waiting out on the lawn between parties. Tomorrow's day ends at noon so she's looking forward to that. Her group doesn't seem to be using too much tent talk. She went to dinner tonight with 4 or 5 others from her group. I forgot to ask how many total there are in her group. The current members who spoke to her at each party were not assigned so no notes were used from her recs and all the conversations were very generic. Each party they came in and just went with the next active member that was standing at the door. Maybe recs will play a bigger role at the next round. P.S. Plus when we were talking on the phone she said it had started raining. |

Also, try not to focus so much on the NUMBER of invites you receive. That first round of cuts is typically VERY heavy. So many people come here and are SO SURE that their recruitment is DOOMED because they don't have as many invites as the other PNMs. I know that's hard. But whether you get 15, 7, or 2 invites, in the end, you can only get ONE BID. |
From the Auburn University Web Camera it looks like its really storming in Auburn.

yes'm, wareagle. you get off to bed!!
GAMomof2, it is so hard when they first go off to school. i remember when i was in the grocery store shortly after returning from taking our daughter to her college her freshman year. the store has muzak, and a song came on that my daughter and i hated, and i teared up, because we always made fun of the song together. it will get better, and you will relish and cherish the times that you do spend together. there is a photo on the AU panhellenic facebook page that shows all the pnms in their sundresses in the arena, if you all want to look. |
Thanks. I did see that. several of the arena were posted to different twitters'. I've been following the hashtag and it's been fun to read.

Also, sometimes the chapter matches sisters with PNMs but something happens when everyone is coming in and they get thrown out of order. Or they are running behind and can't get everyone linded up. Quote:

Great First Day
I think I am more nervous than my daughter. :) It is the sitting around and not knowing what is going on that is so not fun. When she sent me the first text last night that she was "done" for the day, I was on pins and needles waiting for details. :)
She had a great first day and is looking forward to today. I am proud that she has kept an open mind and said she was even surprised by how she felt about three of the groups. There are 15 PNMs in her group and she loves her Pi Chi. She isn't legacy to any group (my small midwestern college didn't have a Greek Life) so we are brand new to this whole thing. It is so much fun! |
good luck to your daughter FPM!
|
Day two is over. She went out to lunch with her group after going to the computers. She was told to rank her bottom 5. Two were the awkward ones from yesterday and the other three were ones that scored lower than the other 12. There was nothing completely wrong with any of them so if she gets an invite back tomorrow morning she sees it as meant that she should take another look. She's tired and it's about to storm again so she is going to nap and call me again tonight. She sounds alot more rested than the first day (that first night off from home took a toll on her). She's looking forward to the t-shirts and shorts the next two days.
|
When do they get invitations for tomorrow?

Oh, I saw that but I was wondering if they give the girls their invitations tonight or right before they leave for parties!
|
oh Lordy, went to the au recruitment t.witte.r posts and two pnms have already declared their love for certain sororities. oooooh, foolish freshmen!
