Amy Winehouse dead at 27

Breaking news on CNN. What a waste ...

PiKA2001 07-23-2011 12:56 PM

Sad but not surprising if true.

PSKsilver 07-23-2011 01:05 PM

It's a shame her singing ability was overshadowed by her problems. Sad indeed.

Also freaky that she is the newest member of the 27 club.

sigtau305 07-23-2011 01:33 PM

I just read it on Yahoo. A Awesome Singer who let her drinking get out of control. May she R.I.P. :(

knight_shadow 07-23-2011 01:51 PM

Huge waste of talent, but like PiKA2001 said, not surprising.

RIP

DubaiSis 07-23-2011 02:58 PM

And so sad for the many people around her who really tried to help.

DrPhil 07-23-2011 03:06 PM

Oh wow.

So sad yet so predictable. :(

KSUViolet06 07-23-2011 03:33 PM

Really sad. Addiction is serious business people.

Jill1228 07-23-2011 04:37 PM

I loved her music but I'm not surprised. :(
RIP Amy

LambdaChindaGuy 07-23-2011 05:12 PM

Not to be the Douche bag, but i think its insane that everyone gives a crap about Amy Winehouse dying and that it made CNN's front page when in two days from now our country will go into financial default... Amy Winehouse dying young is less surprising than if i found out Ke$ha took lines of cocaine before each performance.... and i think we all know that is not surprising what so ever

So? It's still tragic, affects millions of people, and is legitimate news. I'm personally no more surprised by our debt crisis than I am by Amy Winehouse's death or Ke$ha being a coke-head bitch or whatever your argument was. Let people mourn what they want.

Not to be a Douche bag, but I think it's insane that you have the time to respond to this thread when in two days from now our country will go into financial default. Don't you have some financial default stuff to be doing? Surely life is so narrow that people can't be informed about Amy Winehouse's death, and what happened in Norway, and what happened in China, and what's going on with America's debt, and the new Beavis and Butthead movie, and George Clinton's birthday yesterday, and....

I have a question. Why are two of your totaled 9 posts about how people who died pretty much "had it coming" because of their poor choices? If you have to begin your opinion with something like, "Not to be a douche bag," then you are already aware that you are coming off as a tool.

SigmaChiGuy 07-23-2011 11:21 PM

"not to be a douchebag, but" why are we losing any sleep over this strung out loose hose-bag of a 'so called artist' when we have literally thousands of soldiers putting their lives on the line DAILY for freedom?

Amy Winehouse dead - shocker? Sure. Big fucking deal? No.

Carry on, nothing to see here.

Amy was one of my favorites so I'm really upset about this. I see the OMG HOW CAN YOU CARE ABOUT THIS CRACKHEAD WHEN PEOPLE ARE DYING IN NORWAY is not confined to my facebook feed. The ridiculous thing is that one of the people who said it is completely obsessed with Chris Cornell (who I would argue is about on the same fame level as Amy Winehouse, if not less) and posts about him constantly.

And SigmaChiGuy, by your stupid logic, there should have been no funerals or mourning for any individual (famous or non) for the 10 years we were in combat in Vietnam, as an average of 50 American soldiers DIED. EVERY. FUCKING. DAY. And guess what? Most of them (unlike the current fighting force) didn't CHOOSE to be in the military. They were DRAFTED.

At any rate...rest in peace Amy, and thank you for what you gave us while you were here...it was better than most of the shit around today.

Amen. I will miss her music and just the sound of her voice.

ASUADPi 07-24-2011 10:30 PM

As LambdaChindaGuy and SigmaChiGuy are being flamed for not giving a shit that Amy Whinehouse died, I'm sure I'll get flamed as well.

Not a fan of her music. Personally think there are other artists more talented than her. Saw her death coming a mile away considering the last 3+ years she has been in the news for her drug addiction.

Quite honestly I agree with SigmaChiGuy, its truly not that big of a fucking deal.

Bring on the flames, because obviously people don't know how to respect other peoples opinions and that OMG they might be different from theirs. shocker!

Congrats on also being an idiot. You think you have the right to reduce someone's life and death to not being a big fucking deal so those who disagree with you have a right to call you idiots. And that's being polite.

The best way to show that you don't give a shit and have better things to think about than someone's death is to not reply. Even saying their death is no huge shock is more humane than saying it is not a big fucking deal.

I'm replying because you're one of the idiots who doesn't know how to respect other peoples opinions. Oh but wait, you pull that crap on other threads so why should this one be any different.

Senusret I 07-24-2011 10:49 PM

Heaven forbid something happen to you and somebody says your death isn't a big fucking deal. We're talking about the end of somebody's LIFE here and you're trying to make a point about opinions being respected??? What's wrong with you?

Cry me a river. You damn right I don't respect your stupid opinion. I hope your life and death are considered a big enough fucking deal for people to give a damn whether you live or die.

What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you?

So because I don't think it is that big of a deal considering what else is GOING ON IN THE WORLD I'm suddenly a bitch?

Yes, it is sad when a 27 year old dies. But no offense to her, she made these choices. She knew her drug addiction would kill her. But seriously, her death will probably be the cover of the next People magazine, not the debt and certainly not what happened in Norway. No a singer who died from using drugs. Seriously, what does that say about the world we live in.

What else is going on in the world is not a thread about the passing of Amy Winehouse. You - and others - chose to come into a thread about somebody's death with the intention of saying it's not a big deal. That's sad.

People magazine is a tabloid-style magazine. I wouldn't look to it for news about the debt, what happened in Norway, or kidnapped-missing-exploited African American children -- all issues which are also very important to me.

We can care about multiple things at once, you know, and you can care about anything you want - but it's unseemly to come into a thread ABOUT SOMEONE'S DEATH and say it's not a big fucking deal. Keep those sorts of opinions to yourself out of respect for the people mourning.

Im not gonna shit on your opinion. that would reduce me to you. However, i never once said that 1 persons death doesnt matter at all. But 1 persons death does not matter enough to make headlines on CNN when 60 innocent children were massacred the day before, when our soldiers die everyday, and when much MUCH more important things are going on in the world, but people like to focus on the pop culture more than the things that actually effect there lives personally. If you a fan, its understandable to be shocked, but i feel like every person on facebook was not a fan of amy winehouse. Its ok though, im a moron, because i care more about current events, than pop culture. That makes sense right?

Although i did just read Sun's comment... and i cant really argue with that

You and DrPhil are missing the point. The only reason I said anything is because you and others decided to give 2 posters crap for not agreeing that her death is a big deal.

I posted my original response because honestly it is not for you or DrPhil or anyone else to give posters crap for their beliefs. That is what is happening.

I'm sorry that you don't like that I am defending peoples opinions who happen to differ from yours.

As I said, yes the death of a 27 year old is a big deal, but I personally find more things important (like the stuff you listed).

This is a public forum. Not everyone on Greekchat is going to care that she died and they have the RIGHT to come onto this thread and say so.

This is not the first and it most certainly will not be the last thread on greekchat where people have different opinions. And again, because it is a public forum they have a right to their opinions and to post them.

I find great humor in you pretending that you are not shitting on something in this thread. It's the classic example of people who start shit but then pretend that they didn't start shit.

It doesn't matter whether people who express sympathy are fans of Amy Winehouse. You are all over the place over a topic that you claim to find insignificant. You care enough about Amy Winehouse to still be in this thread. Go find some CNN headlines to concern yourself with.

Is stupid and argues points which are obvious at best and irrelevant at worst. So when I call your points stupid, don't be mad that I called them stupid.

Example:

A retro recruitment thread. All of the people posting in it have some sort of stake in NPC recruitment and are enjoying the thread. I post saying "NPC recruitment is stupid."

Yes, I have the right to post that.

But isn't it stupid to use that thread as a platform for that opinion. Why yes, yes it is.

So certainly you are free to post dumb opinions as I am free to point them out.

Stupid and passive aggressive in that ASUADPi is expressing some previously unexpressed outrage over how GCers respond to other people's opinions. Of all of the threads, she picked a stupid time to express such outrage.

Drolefille 07-24-2011 11:53 PM

WTF happened in this thread? DrPhil and Sen are awesome.

Also I defriended someone on facebook over his response of "one less crack whore in the world." I'm not particularly a fan of her music, but it is tragic nonetheless.

33girl 07-24-2011 11:59 PM

As someone who's actually been trying to find out more on this story, all I can say is, I must have different stations than you, because the most I've seen on it all day is a 5 minute story on Headline News Network. I've seen NOTHING on any other news channel. E had a crawl going last night. MTV (which I thought might say something because she was a musician - you know, the "M" part) hasn't even had a crawl. They thought it more important to show reruns of Teen Mom.

It's anything but saturating the airwaves.

And why on God's green earth would People put the Norway shootings or the national debt on the cover? That's what Time and Newsweek (not to mention the daily newspapers) are for. That comment is about as ridiculously idiotic as being upset that In Style didn't do a cover about the death of Osama bin Laden.
