Amy Winehouse dead at 27
Breaking news on CNN. What a waste ...
|
Sad but not surprising if true.

It's a shame her singing ability was overshadowed by her problems. Sad indeed. Also freaky that she is the newest member of the 27 club. |
I just read it on Yahoo. A Awesome Singer who let her drinking get out of control. May she R.I.P. :(
|
Huge waste of talent, but like PiKA2001 said, not surprising.
RIP |
And so sad for the many people around her who really tried to help.
|
Oh wow.
So sad yet so predictable. :( |
Really sad. Addiction is serious business people.
|
I loved her music but I'm not surprised. :(
RIP Amy |
Not to be the Douche bag, but i think its insane that everyone gives a crap about Amy Winehouse dying and that it made CNN's front page when in two days from now our country will go into financial default... Amy Winehouse dying young is less surprising than if i found out Ke$ha took lines of cocaine before each performance.... and i think we all know that is not surprising what so ever

"not to be a douchebag, but" why are we losing any sleep over this strung out loose hose-bag of a 'so called artist' when we have literally thousands of soldiers putting their lives on the line DAILY for freedom?
Amy Winehouse dead - shocker? Sure. Big fucking deal? No. Carry on, nothing to see here. |

Amy was one of my favorites so I'm really upset about this. I see the OMG HOW CAN YOU CARE ABOUT THIS CRACKHEAD WHEN PEOPLE ARE DYING IN NORWAY is not confined to my facebook feed. The ridiculous thing is that one of the people who said it is completely obsessed with Chris Cornell (who I would argue is about on the same fame level as Amy Winehouse, if not less) and posts about him constantly.
And SigmaChiGuy, by your stupid logic, there should have been no funerals or mourning for any individual (famous or non) for the 10 years we were in combat in Vietnam, as an average of 50 American soldiers DIED. EVERY. FUCKING. DAY. And guess what? Most of them (unlike the current fighting force) didn't CHOOSE to be in the military. They were DRAFTED. At any rate...rest in peace Amy, and thank you for what you gave us while you were here...it was better than most of the shit around today. |

As LambdaChindaGuy and SigmaChiGuy are being flamed for not giving a shit that Amy Whinehouse died, I'm sure I'll get flamed as well.
Not a fan of her music. Personally think there are other artists more talented than her. Saw her death coming a mile away considering the last 3+ years she has been in the news for her drug addiction. Quite honestly I agree with SigmaChiGuy, its truly not that big of a fucking deal. Bring on the flames, because obviously people don't know how to respect other peoples opinions and that OMG they might be different from theirs. shocker! |

The best way to show that you don't give a shit and have better things to think about than someone's death is to not reply. Even saying their death is no huge shock is more humane than saying it is not a big fucking deal. |

Heaven forbid something happen to you and somebody says your death isn't a big fucking deal. We're talking about the end of somebody's LIFE here and you're trying to make a point about opinions being respected??? What's wrong with you?

So because I don't think it is that big of a deal considering what else is GOING ON IN THE WORLD I'm suddenly a bitch? Yes, it is sad when a 27 year old dies. But no offense to her, she made these choices. She knew her drug addiction would kill her. But seriously, her death will probably be the cover of the next People magazine, not the debt and certainly not what happened in Norway. No a singer who died from using drugs. Seriously, what does that say about the world we live in. |

People magazine is a tabloid-style magazine. I wouldn't look to it for news about the debt, what happened in Norway, or kidnapped-missing-exploited African American children -- all issues which are also very important to me. We can care about multiple things at once, you know, and you can care about anything you want - but it's unseemly to come into a thread ABOUT SOMEONE'S DEATH and say it's not a big fucking deal. Keep those sorts of opinions to yourself out of respect for the people mourning. |

Although i did just read Sun's comment... and i cant really argue with that |

I posted my original response because honestly it is not for you or DrPhil or anyone else to give posters crap for their beliefs. That is what is happening. I'm sorry that you don't like that I am defending peoples opinions who happen to differ from yours. As I said, yes the death of a 27 year old is a big deal, but I personally find more things important (like the stuff you listed). This is a public forum. Not everyone on Greekchat is going to care that she died and they have the RIGHT to come onto this thread and say so. This is not the first and it most certainly will not be the last thread on greekchat where people have different opinions. And again, because it is a public forum they have a right to their opinions and to post them. |

It doesn't matter whether people who express sympathy are fans of Amy Winehouse. You are all over the place over a topic that you claim to find insignificant. You care enough about Amy Winehouse to still be in this thread. Go find some CNN headlines to concern yourself with. |

Example: A retro recruitment thread. All of the people posting in it have some sort of stake in NPC recruitment and are enjoying the thread. I post saying "NPC recruitment is stupid." Yes, I have the right to post that. But isn't it stupid to use that thread as a platform for that opinion. Why yes, yes it is. So certainly you are free to post dumb opinions as I am free to point them out. |

WTF happened in this thread? DrPhil and Sen are awesome.
Also I defriended someone on facebook over his response of "one less crack whore in the world." I'm not particularly a fan of her music, but it is tragic nonetheless. |
As someone who's actually been trying to find out more on this story, all I can say is, I must have different stations than you, because the most I've seen on it all day is a 5 minute story on Headline News Network. I've seen NOTHING on any other news channel. E had a crawl going last night. MTV (which I thought might say something because she was a musician - you know, the "M" part) hasn't even had a crawl. They thought it more important to show reruns of Teen Mom.
It's anything but saturating the airwaves. And why on God's green earth would People put the Norway shootings or the national debt on the cover? That's what Time and Newsweek (not to mention the daily newspapers) are for. That comment is about as ridiculously idiotic as being upset that In Style didn't do a cover about the death of Osama bin Laden. |
