What station do you listen to?

Hey gang,

When you listen to the radio, what DJ(or station) do you always listen to? Since I am in radio(One year with my station on Nov 23! woohoo!) I just want to know who makes you laugh, who you think should retire, and who makes you mad.

Wendy vs Angie!

Ok I am in Cali, but I have heard more about Wendy Williams than any other black female DJ.

I know she got fired and is now on some other radio station telling all kinds of scandalous biz, who do you guys listen to in that area? Wendy or Angie? I heard Angie is kinda boring, cause she wants to be everyone's friend, while other friends think Wendy is scandalous.

When I heard Wendy gave a shout out to Bobbi Christina and told her that her parents were dopeheads, I could have died:eek:

I love me some Wendy Williams!!! She is too funny sometimes when she talks about people in her "Blind Items" and between songs. When she had the gay rapper, Kaushun (sp) , on one of her first shows, it was too funny! I missed her sooo much when she was in Baltimore doing her show there, but now that she's back, I try to listen to her as often as possible. I like Angie sometimes whenever she has guests, but other than that, she's boring as hell! I also like listening to the Star and Bucwild show in the mornings b/c they're too damn silly! http://www.plauder-smilies.de/biglaugh.gif Star makes me mad sometimes when he disrespects different people, but I think some of those people deserve it!!! I like it when he says, "Give the people what they want, dammit!" I especially looove the segment, "What the hell is this?" A lot of what the crossover Negro, Reece, is saying is true and too funny!

That's my ray of sunshine for today! http://www.plauder-smilies.de/natur/sunny.gif Until next time people!!!

Ms. Jay 11-20-2001 02:07 PM

I'm in Detroit and I listen 105.9 I love Russ and Olivia in the morning. They make me pull over from laughing so hard. My favorite on there in Danielle the cell phone sister. I hate the Tune Up Man. He's so boring to me. I like Spudd and everyone else. I do know this is a Radio One compnay

#1 Leading Lady 11-20-2001 03:13 PM

I listen to Russ and Olivia too!! I love DJ Sixth Sense and the Wrong Songs, and SpilltheT gossip. I listen to 96.3 WHHH a Radio One Company.

straightBOS 11-20-2001 07:32 PM

Say it with me....

"Whatever hater!"

Russ and Olivia kill me, daily. I must look like a loony walking to the train station with my headphones on giggling like a little kid.

Especially the other day when they were discussing the MJJ special and Whitney.

MaNessa 11-20-2001 07:40 PM

I listen too......

I listen to Tom Joyner in the morning. I love the soap opera it's your world. Before I moved here I use to listen to Issac Hayes in the morning on WBLS NY city.

kizzie22 11-20-2001 07:52 PM

I listen to the Tom Joyner morning show too!!!! Tom & Jay Anthony Brown are a trip especilly we they get started on Sybil... :)

c&c1913 11-20-2001 10:18 PM

I listen to 104.5 FM. I love listening to Skip Murphy and the Morning Team. They are a mess and Chris Arnold is too cute!

I listen to 97.9 the Beat occasionally. They are a RadioOne Station too and carry Russ Parr in the mornings. They tend to play old school songs and unedited versions of songs more often.

Wendy was in Philadelphia not Baltimore. The reason why she returned to NY was because she asked the station in Philly for a million dollars and they told that she could skip her happy a$$ right back to New York.

Anyway, I listened to Wendy when she was in Philly because she was funny. She is/was extremely ghetto, but it was still entertaining. I still listen to that same station in Philly, Power 99.

By the way, my sister is a DJ on that station!!! I won't say which one because that would be too much information given via the net.

DELTAQTE 11-21-2001 04:26 AM

YEAH

I've heard a lot of good stuff about the Tom Joyner show. What about the afternoon drive? Or late night? Or do you guys not listen at those times : )

Speaking of DJ's. Did you guys know Lil Mo is now an afternoon DJ? Our soror FloAnthony said she is doing good but her record company is mad she isn't concentrating on her album.

I have to be honest, hearing this made me mad:mad: It takes a few years just to get on a decent station. Much less a prime time spot like the afternoon. I was like "she got that for being a rapper? heck no"

Does anyone like MissJones? She is on with Star and Buckwild right?

kiml122 11-21-2001 09:47 AM

I listen to the TJMS and Russ Parr in the morning on the way to work. I listen to the TJMS once I'm at work because RUss Parr is to wild to have on while I'm at work. I would be laughing way to hard, and way to loud.

I love the soap "It's your world" on the TJMS.

I don't listen to the radio on the way home...it's strictly CD's at that time.

korkscru 11-21-2001 09:59 AM

Things just ain't right if I don't hear Russ Parr and Olivia Foxx every morning on 92.1 (Richmond, Virginia). It's like major fun to listen to them joke and laugh on the radio. My favorites are Knowledge, Olivia Foxx and Gareshamone'. The call-ins. Miss. Chlyamidia (the psychic). The Wrong Songs. And I also like their top 10 lists. Lazy (Lazor) Lamont is also an added favorite and I really miss J. Anthony Brown on the show. I make sure that I listen to them since I spend a lot of time in my car. I also must look pretty wierd while driving because I laugh as if they were in the car with me. THEY ARE SOOOOOO FUNNY.

SoTrue1920 11-21-2001 11:12 AM

We have cable radio, so I listen to KPLU out of Seattle for NPR news in the morning and afternoon. Online, I listen to KCRW out of Santa Monica, California.

Offline I listen to Z95.3 in Vancouver.

95.5
93.9
105.9

AlacrityZK 11-21-2001 05:38 PM

I listen to everything from R&B, pop, to a little rock
Also, Tom Joyner is off da chain in the morning, however I do listen to my local station's morning team

I listen to the following stations in Chattanooga, TN
94.3
99.3

Jazz, real jazz

I'm lucky to be in Southern California with America's No. 1 jazz station, KLON-FM out of Long Beach. I listen to it in the car, all night, and on the computer at work, since my building can't pick up radio waves. :(

Other favorite jazz stations are KSDS-FM in San Diego, KJAZ-AM in Los Angeles, KPLU-FM in Seattle, WBGO-FM in New York and KCSM-FM in San Francisco. I listen to these stations through the Web.

When it comes to sports radio, I listen to XTRA-AM and KXTA-AM, both in SoCal, strictly for Jim Rome. I'm a clone. ;) :D

DELTAQTE 11-21-2001 08:07 PM

JIM ROME!

man this man is huge! I like Jim Rome also:)
Isn't he the only sports man that folks claim can make a grown man cry?

When I go down to L.A. I listen to Big Boi. Power 106 is cool, so is Steve Harvey on 92.3 The Beat.

I love how Jim Rome sasses sports folks, and his listeners.
One time, he played a sound drop of Mike Tyson talking about eating Lennox Lewis' "chirrens" and did an imitation of him. ROFLMBAO!!! :D

Whooo! Talk about going way back! After Renel left the show( she was the last of the original Zoo Crew) I stopped listening to the station. I have no idea about their current morning show. I'm wondering when you were in the area last. A lot of DJ changes and a lot of station changes.

ZChi4Life 11-22-2001 02:43 AM

I'm in Detroit and listen to Russ and Olivia on 105.9 every morning. And although I listen every morning, I do not know all the characters names! Some listener I am, right!? :p I guess I'm too busy laughing to notice their names. But I love the "whatever hater" caller. That is too funny! I also listen to:

97.9 (hip hop, r&b)
95.5 (pop, hip hop, some light alternative)
93.1 (pop, dance, hip hop)
98.3 (hip hop-Ann Arbor station)
92.3 (old school r&b)

Rain Man 11-24-2001 03:01 PM

Here is my list

My list of stations I listen to in Columbus are as follows

88.1 WCDR (Cedarville University Radio) Contemporary Christian
106.3 WJYD--Contemporary Gospel
103.5 WJZA--Contemporary Jazz
98.9 WMXG--R&B Oldies
103.1 WSMZ--Local Tom Joyner affiliate with blues and talk shows sprinkled in.
90.5 WCBE--National Public Radio and Public Radio International

On the AM dial I listen to:

820 WOSU--National Public Radio (I gotta catch "All Things Considered" at 4:00 with the cool fanfare at the start of the show), and jazz with Bob Parlociccia at night.
1580 WVKO--Contemporary Gospel

CkretCrush8 11-24-2001 03:52 PM

In Richmond I listen to...

WREJ ~ 1540 AM ~ Contemporary Gospel

I used to listen to 93.9, 95.5, or 96.3 in Washington DC
93.9 had Russ Parr and Olivia
96.3 had Tom Joyner

Now I don't listen to them

PrettyPetite 11-25-2001 10:53 PM

I'm in South Florida and I listen to:

96.5 Power 96 (Pop, R & B, Hip-Hop)
99.1 99 Jamz (R & B, Hip-Hop, Gospel)
100.7 Y-100 (Pop, Rock, R & B, Hip-Hop)
105.1 Hot 105 (R & B Hits and Oldies)

I like Hot 105 because they have the Tom Joyner Morning Show in the mornings, the Funk Jazz Lounge on Sundays from 11am-2pm, and the Quiet Storm. Only thing I hate about them is that they play the instrumental version of popular rap songs. For example, when that J. Lo and Ja-Rule song blew up, they played it, MINUS Ja's lyrics. So all the parts where he was rapping in the song, all you hear is the music. It sounded so stupid.

99 Jamz is a little too ghetto for me. They have this relatively new DJ on there named Big Lip Bandit (WTF?) and he's just too much for me. I only listen to them when there's absolutely nothing for me to listen to. At one point, they allowed Luke to have his own show on that station called the "Luke Springer Show". You can figure out what the deal was with that.

pretty3grl 11-25-2001 11:32 PM

I love Skip Murphy and the morning team on K104 (104.5). Skip Nanette, and The Wig are hilarious, and I love Gossip To Go with Flo Anthony (mostly because I am nosey).:p

I like Missjones (Jonzie), but I think that she's too good for the Star and Bucwild show. I also think that although she's too good, she adds something to the show that fans like. Personally for me, if she enjoys being on a show with two of the biggest haters in NYC, then go ahead girl!!! ;)

MaMaBuddha 11-28-2001 02:55 PM

since i am in nyc....

the stations i listen to the most are

107.5 wbls

98.7 wkiss

jamming 105

97.9 spanish

105.9 spanish

i stopped listening to hot 97.1...they are so repetitious...your hear the same jay-z song every hour on the hour. it's too commericalized.

i am loving DC's and Miami's radio stations. i don't know the call letters, but they play alot of good music.

lil_sunshine 11-28-2001 03:21 PM

That is sooo true, MaMaBuddha!!!!

Hot 97 does play the same songs everyday, especially Ja-Rule! I hate that. He is sooo ugly!!! Do you remember Balthazar? I used to always love his show, especially the end. That's where I got my first quote from. But in DC, I liked 95.5, 93.9 (WKYS), and 96.3 (WHUR). There was another radio station that I liked when I stayed there, but I forgot which one it was. But after awhile, I began to hate the go-go music that they play at least three times a day. It got on my nerves!!! Oh, by the way, MaMaBuddha, I live in Queens too! :D

Ladies, here is Jim Rome's decision. I'm relieved. :D :D

Famous Last Words: Rome Picks Radio
Broadcasting: Sports talk kingpin will give up TV show to stay with the medium that made him a star.
By LARRY STEWART
TIMES STAFF WRITER

February 22 2002

Jim Rome, who has dominated sports talk radio for more than a decade and more recently became a force in television, has decided to concentrate on radio.

"What it came down to is, after more than a decade, I still love doing the radio show," Rome told The Times Thursday. He'll make an official announcement today.

Rome said he will honor his contract with Fox and continue doing his nightly show, "The Last Word With Jim Rome," for Fox Sports Net until the end of the year. "I'm not shutting the door on television," Rome said. "I anticipate I'll still have a television presence one day a week. I just have no idea what that presence will be. I'm leaving my options open."

His decision to concentrate on radio hardly comes as a surprise.

His nationally syndicated show is heard in 185 markets in the U.S.--including KXTA (1150) in Los Angeles and delayed on XTRA (690) in San Diego--and 11 in Canada.

But Rome, who started building his empire by doing traffic reports for a Santa Barbara radio station while a student at UC Santa Barbara, also has achieved considerable success in television. "The Last Word," which Rome began doing in 1999, has provided Fox Sports Net with a show that gets critical acclaim and national attention.

But now, he said, it's time to cut back.

Rome, 37, has been saying for more than a year that he would eventually have to choose between radio and television.

In television, "The Last Word" has to compete with similar shows such as ESPN's "Unscripted With Chris Connelly," formerly "Up Close," and "Pardon the Interruption," a new show.

In sports talk radio, Rome rules. He is the most listened-to host in the nation, with more than 2.5 million listeners weekly.

Another reason Rome chose radio over television is because the Premiere Radio Network, which syndicates his show, made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

Rome and Premiere are now equity partners not only in his show, but in Internet rights, merchandise and tour stops involving Rome.

"All I can say is, it's a sweet deal," Rome said.

Rome said a major factor in deciding to cut back was a desire to spend more time with his wife Janet and 10-month-old son Jake.

"My priority now is my family--my wife and my child," he said. "The radio show and everything else could go away and I could have nothing, and they'd still support me.

"The way things are now, I work 14-15 hours every weekday. We never go out during the week.

"I get home from the TV show around 5:30, spend some time with Janet and the baby, then by 7:30 I'm up in my office working until midnight. I'm up at 5 the next morning getting ready for the radio show."

But don't expect Rome to become a slacker.

"I'll never lose my edge," he said. "I've always thought my greatest strength is that I love to work. I have an enormous capacity for work.

"I've seen other guys lose their edge and they've lost everything they have. I will not lose my edge.

"I think what has made the difference for me is that I've also outworked the next guy."

What also has made his radio show successful is its uniqueness and variety.

Some listeners may like Rome's glossary, much of which has worked its way into mainstream conversation. "Smack," "have a take," "clones," "pie hole" and "props" are a few examples.

Others might like the calls from Rome's "clones." He calls his hard-core fans clones because they try to imitate him.

Some like his humor.

And still others may like his interviews. Rome is acknowledged as one of the best interviewers in sports broadcasting--always prepared and able to draw out the person he is interviewing.

Soon after Rome got his feet wet in broadcasting by doing traffic reports, he got his own sports talk show in Santa Barbara.

He got his first big break in 1990, when he was invited to interview for a position as weekend update anchor at XTRA.

It wasn't long before Rome had his own show at XTRA, and people began to notice.

XTRA is also where Rome met Janet. She was a vice president for Noble Broadcasting, which owned the station. XTRA, now a Clear Channel station, still carries Rome's show, but on a delayed basis. His show is heard live in Los Angeles, 9 a.m. to noon, on KXTA, another Clear Channel station.

Rome broke into television in 1994 as host of "Talk2," then a new show on a new cable channel, ESPN2. It was on this show Rome had his most infamous moment.

When quarterback Jim Everett was a guest on the show, Rome kept calling him "Chris," after Chris Evert. Rome was implying Everett was soft.

Everett asked him to stop, and Rome called him "Chris" one more time. Everett then lunged at Rome, knocking over a table.

The public sided with Everett. The general opinion was that Rome was a wise guy who had it coming.

It was a major bump in the road, but Rome has survived.

After Rome began doing "The Last Word" in 1999 and became a star in two mediums, he was named to the Sporting News' list of 100 most powerful people in sports, coming in at No. 78, which was 14 spots ahead of Michael Jordan.

He was No. 73 in 2000 and climbed to No. 36 last year, when he was named media person of the year by Sports Illustrated.

Off the air, the picture hasn't always been quite as pretty. At times Rome has been described as aloof, egotistical and difficult to deal with. But some of his critics also say he has mellowed with age.

stillwater15 02-22-2002 08:45 PM

i'm in northern nj, so i pick up the nyc stations. admittedly, i love wendy williams, so she gets most of the play from2-6. otherwise, it's 105.1. i've been boycotting hot 97, for a number of reasons. since i love sports, i also listen to am 620 and 660, a lot.

CJUS 02-26-2002 02:15 PM

I'm in Memphis, and I lsiten to 92.1, 107.1, 97.1, 103.5, and 101.1, but Hot 107.1 is the crunkest especially in the morning with Doc Martin and Tina Tilton--she's an AKA.

Stillwater15, keep up your protest of Hot 97!!! I've never heard the station personally because I am in ATL, but I've heard about numerous things that have happened at the station. I'm glad that you and others still care enough to boycott.

In ATL, I love Hot 107.9, especially Ryan Cameron in the morning. How many times have I been driving and about to wreck because I'm laughing at him? They play a decent variety of hip hop and R&B plus the DJs are pretty good throughout the day. By the way, it's a Radio One station which is owned by my soRHOr Cathy Hughes.

I'm pretty eclectic, so I also listen to:

88.5 @ Ga State: diverse playlist (even a spoken word show!)
89.3 all kinds of music, especially Caribbean, Hip Hop and stuff
you just don't hear everyday
91.9 Clark Atlanta Univ's jazz station - real good mix
95.5 The Beat - a lot of urban with some pop
Praise 97.5 Atlanta's only FM gospel owned by Radio One
99.7 alternative
100.5 a lot of pop with some urban
V103 the BIG urban station - they really are for everybody

Sorry about the length, but although I am not in the industry, I did study radio, and I'm still into it.

Online radio broadcasts of Russ Parr, Doug Banks, and Tom Joyner or anyone else with a GOOD MORNING SHOW?!?!!

Thanks :D

FeeFee 05-25-2004 09:08 AM

In the morning, I listen to the Doug Banks show (107.5-WBLS). Doug 'nem have me CTHU every morning.

During the afternoon, I would listen to either Wendy Williams on (WBLS) or the Michael Baisden show on 98.7 KISS FM

HOT 97.1 and POWER 105.1 play the same 10 songs everyday, so I don't mess with them too much.

TonyB06 05-25-2004 09:16 AM

mornings: back and forth between Russ Parr/Tom Joyner

12-3 p.m.: Jim Rome (sportstalk ...helps me keep up with Steeltrap's latest lingo :D)

LB1914 05-25-2004 10:08 AM

I listen to 97.1 most of the time. They have a good mix of current hits with hits from the '80's and '90's. Other than that, I alternate between Classic Soul 102.5 and Kiss 104.1.

Hot 107.9 is more for teens and pre-teens, plus they talk too damn much. V103 gets no play in my ride at all.
