GreekChat.com Random Pet Thread

ITT we chit chat and post random things about our pets. I just thought it would be fun to start a thread just like the Random threads, but about our pets instead. I have nothing to post about the three of mine as of right now, but I will after I feed Charlotte. I stopped at the pet store after work today, and I bought her a feeder mouse. I haven't fed her yet, though. The mouse is really cute, so it's gonna be hard to feed him to Charlotte as it usually is.:(

Oh crap, this thread is so not fair. I had to unexpectedly have my 3 legged Buster the Beagle put to sleep last Thursday :( He became 3 legged last February in a battle with cancer, and we didnt know until last week that the cancer came back full force and consumed his belly.

http://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/..._2083394_n.jpg

Buuuuut, in other news, when the time is right (I dunno when) I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to rescue a couple of more dogs. When we got Buster, we lived in an apartment, so he was the only one we had room for. We're planning to get 2 next time so they have a playmate. Buster was a grumpy old man who slept all day, so he didn't want a playmate.

I don't have a snake. When I said I'm feeding Charlotte, I was talking about.....http://youtu.be/B5q5X7GspNo

I fed her about 20 minutes ago. She was really hungry, because when I went back to see if she had eaten him, she was in the process of doing it. I have a scorpion and a cat, too.

amanda6035 06-28-2011 09:33 PM

OMG that was worse that a snake! I couldn't even watch the whole video.

You'd be suprised. Charlotte is really friendly. The only time she's ever gotten aggravated with me was when she was going through a molt. Other than that, she's really calm. Oh, and she gets mad if I pet her while she's eating. I mean, who wouldn't, though? :p

I'm really sorry about your dog.:(

The second part of your post is awesome. Keep up the good work.;)

The husband and I can't have dogs in our place (just yet...we're getting a new place soon!) so I train and love on my mom and dad's dogs

Buddy looked like this when he was adopted, and he smelled like skunk:

Under that fur was a purebred Jack Russell!

Vicious, he is...

But he joined the most perfect dog in the world, Shadow the BorderJack (border collie/ JRT mix)

This is what shadow looked like when she came home from the pound

I have two chinchillas whose pictures are posted in one of the pet threads. I've had them for 3 years and they continue to be high maintenance divas.

However, in October, I adopted a rabbit. He came with the name Billy Idol and since he does have man-scara I didn't change it. He seriously does act like a rock-star. Daily, he meets me at the door for his serving of peas, snatches a stalk and hordes it in the corner of his cage.

I love chinchillas! They're SO adorable.

You gotta warn people with those links! I am cool with snakes, but that's super freaky! (Sorry, I know that's your pet & all - I'm sure that to you she's just adorable.)

These are my kitties (I've probably posted pics here before someplace ...):
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...92773_5656.jpg
The Siamese is Tai & the black Siamese mix is Parker. They are generally referred to as Big Cat & Little Cat, even though they're really about the same size now ...

sigmadiva 06-29-2011 02:13 PM

My little dachsie is convinced he can catch lizards. He tries so hard..... :p

KSUViolet06 06-29-2011 02:24 PM

So everybody knows I lost my kitty in November.

Well, I recently went to my mom's and discovered that they'd been feeding a really cute stray (black/white spots, not quite a kitten, he's probably about 2ish.)

They're thinking about fixing him/taking him to the vet for shots and keeping him. We've already named him Smoky.

It's bittersweet because the situation reminds me so much of my kitty. She was a young stray who just wandered onto our property while we were building the house. So we kept her. I still miss her tons. This new cat isn't quite as cuddly as she was either (we think she was dumped by people because she was way too friendly with people to be feral.)

He's warming up to us little by little, though. It's nice to have a cat again.

@ cheerfulgreek- As soon as I saw the title of that youtube video, I was OUT of there. I'm sorry, I have a massive fear of spiders, especially large ones. I saw a tarantula (a small one, but still) when I was in Haiti and I ran for it before it even moved an inch (it was about 10 ft away from me).

@PhoenixAzul- I would agree with you that your dogs are the most perfect creatures in the world (they are quite adorable) but then my princess of a dog would have a fit. She thinks she's the ruler of the world, princess of it, and perfect in every way. She's 10 pounds of amazingness.

Also, to add to this thread, my puppy slept with me in my bed for the first time ever last night! She NEVER sleeps with me, always with my parents. But last night my stepdad wasn't in the greatest mood and so I think she took refuge with me! She left toward the morning to go sleep with my parents again, but it was wonderful. I love her so much.

Said perfect princess, by a rhododendron bush. Gives you some idea of her small but mighty stature.

everyone is freaking out about my spider. If you don't like the large ones, then you'd probably be afraid of Charlotte. She looks like this one, except she's a Mexican Red Knee. This one is a Bird Eater, but Charlotte is about the same size. She's really calm, though. Oh, and your doggie is a cutie.:)

I think that's so cool! Is that the only pet spider you've ever had?

AlwaysSAI 06-30-2011 11:54 AM

I let the girls out to run around last night and Bronco wouldn't stop chewing on the chipping paint in the doorway. I would get her away from that but if I looked away for a second, she'd be licking the soap dispenser.

And, this morning, while I was cleaning the girl's bin, Billy Idol was climbing the side of his cage like I was flinging around strawberries.

ETA: I just missed the most perfect picture opportunity! Billy Idol was taking a nap and laying his head on his stuffed squirrel. Awe! When I went to snap it, he looked up at me like, "WTF! I was sleeping!".

This is the only one that I currently have, but I've had them since I was like 8 or 9 years old.

honeychile 06-30-2011 10:25 PM

Ugh on the spider, but... my brother always had snakes - major, big snakes. The only way I could get out of holding any of them was by saying, "he'd make really great boots!" He used to feel funny about going to the pet store to buy mice, and the container (like Chinese takeout) would read, "I'm going to my new home!"

Then he had to start buying them bunnies. blech.

As for me, I'm currently petless, but went to a Bichon Bash last weekend with my guy. I was out of my mind with happiness! I just saw a picture from it, and I'm going to go retrieve it. BRB!

What options are out there for my kitty who has fleas but has already been treated this month? I know it's bad to double up on her flea meds, but I picked THREE off of her FACE last night and this is NOT okay.

Flea bath? Would that be effective even though they can hide on her face?

Anyone have this problem before? Should I just wait til next month and buy one of the expensive flea treatments? I usually don't just because she's strictly indoor and the only pet in the house, so she isn't super high risk. But apparently that's not cutting it for her :(

What kind of meds are you using?

You can use shampoo, it's just that once it's rinsed off, is has no residual effect. If you do decide to use shampoo, they're best used for moderate to mild infestations. That's why you should ask your vet because, I don't know how bad she's got them. Plus, they're only effective if the environment has been treated, too. I recommend Revolution to my patients because, it's also a heartworm preventative (yes, indoor cats can get heartworms). It also contols adult fleas and it prevents flea eggs from hatching (if applied correctly). It also controls other parasites such as ear mites, roundworms, and hookworms, as well as some ticks. It's what I give to my cat.

FYI, just because she's strictly indoors doesn't mean she shouldn't get fleas. Cats living indoors can have fleas all year-round. All cats can be affected unless the owner lives at higher elevations.

Ditto to what cheerfulgreek said. I use Frontline on my dog. I also treat the carpet in my home. I use Flea Stoppers for the carpet, which is basically powdered boric acid.

It's true that you have to treat the pet and the environment. If you have a yard you should treat it too.

Thanks cheerfulgreek and sigmadiva. I've been using PurrScriptions Plus (picked it up at PetSmart) but I will switch over to Revolution. I don't know if my vet's office has a deal with them, but that's the brand they endorse so I'll pick some up. I'm taking her to the vet next week for her annual check up but in the mean time I'll treat my carpets. The lawn should be okay, it gets treated for bugs regularly and she doesn't go out in it anyways. Thank you both :) I'm just so frustrated and I hate to see her scratching.

No problem. Listen to your vet, keep using the Revolution, and keep us posted. She'll get better.:)

Make sure to use new bags or dump and clean the canister if you're bagless. Some people have told me cutting up or putting flea collars in the bag/canister as that can get the ones that may lurk in the vacuum or if tossing or cleaning is going to be a problem. Don't forget other places kitty goes like furniture, and wash the bedding on hot.

My two are indoors and I've been very lucky there have been no fleas, maybe because I only open my upstairs windows and have the fans blow out nothing can get in.

It's a way for him to tell you he loves you, all day long. And besides, what outfit doesn't go with pet fur? Duh pshsx1. :p

PS- He is so cute! I love his adorable face. I love dogs. They're the best.
