Rec Letters

Hey yall! I was just wondering if there is a way to find rec letters from different sorority alumni. Do you know how to find some?

IrishLake 06-23-2011 09:59 AM

Yes.

AZTheta 06-23-2011 10:00 AM

Please, use the search function. Thank you.

AZTheta 06-23-2011 10:00 AM

IL: that was the first thing I typed, so JINX!

Mackenzie 06-23-2011 10:02 AM

where?

kddani 06-23-2011 10:04 AM

They're with the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Seriously, take a few minutes to read the threads on here.

If you're fishing for some random strangers on the internet to say "yes, I will write a rec for you!", you'd better rethink your strategy. Not going to happen.

IrishLake 06-23-2011 10:06 AM

Bless your heart.

Time to learn how to say "please" and "thank you."

Read first. Ask questions later if you can't find your answer.

Mackenzie 06-23-2011 10:10 AM

I wasnt looking for random people to write me letters.. i was just wondering if there was a website or something i could find. If you could help me out, that would be greatly appreciated! thanks guys!!

AnotherKD 06-23-2011 10:11 AM

How did people ever get rec letters to join sororities before the internet?

Titchou 06-23-2011 10:17 AM

Not looking for "random people" but thinks there will be a web site with non-random people? Maybe one called "Friends of Mackenzie who can do recs but we won't tell her to her face?" What? Check out the recruitment board. Do a search for recommendations. You'll find tons of ideas there.

Mackenzie 06-23-2011 10:18 AM

No need to be rude people. I was just trying to find some, give me a break.

IrishLake 06-23-2011 10:23 AM

If you were trying to find some, you would have done a search and read some for yourself before posting. Really, you are trying to find someone to give you the answer so you don't have to do the work or searching yourself. We're not being rude, just trying to help you realize you have to help yourself first.

Breaks are given to those that don't expect to be spoon-fed around here. Sorry.

kddani 06-23-2011 10:26 AM

You're asking for a favor from us, and didn't even say "please" or "thank you" (I sure hope that you use those words when actually asking someone to write you a rec) or bother to take 30 seconds to do a search for information on what you're requesting. You're not going to be spoonfed everything. Time to be a grown up and do some work on your own.

There are literally 1,000 threads asking this same question. If you would've taken a mere seconds to glance through the threads, you would've seen this.

Still trying to find the words "please" "thank you" in this post...

Waiting for the post that we've made her not want to join a sorority after this thread...

IrishLake 06-23-2011 10:29 AM

You are not a snowflake. Good luck getting those recs though!

AnotherKD 06-23-2011 10:34 AM

Laughing at poster saying "It's called being polite."

Should heed her own advice.

Titchou 06-23-2011 10:35 AM

Mackenzie, dear. Are you familiar with the term "networking?" If not, look it up. If so, do it....with those women you already know who are alumnae (not alumni) and other other women YOU KNOW but may not know that they are Greek.

If you had been up front in the beginning by saying, I've found some women to do recs for me but still need others. What is the best way to go about that and TIA, then you would have ellicited a different tone of response.

IrishLake 06-23-2011 10:36 AM

Hopefully by now she's read the most recent "I don't know how to get recs, can someone please help me?" thread.

Mackenzie 06-23-2011 10:40 AM

alright gals, how about we start over?

Hey yall, I've found some women to do recs for me but still need others. Would yall mind helping me find some others please? That would be awesome! thank you so much! :)

IrishLake 06-23-2011 10:44 AM

Have you tried looking for the answer yourself yet? It's really easy to find.

Mackenzie 06-23-2011 10:47 AM

Yes i have. I have no idea where to find them. I've done tons of online searches, emailed my school Greek Department about it, but still havent found anything. It's much tougher than i thought. Please help

kddani 06-23-2011 10:50 AM

Have you looked at other threads on this website? Specifically in the forum called "Sorority Recruitment"?

Mackenzie 06-23-2011 10:51 AM

Ive tried, but I cant find anything. I'm new to this website and havent fully figured out how to work it yet haha. I apologize

Titchou 06-23-2011 10:54 AM

What have the women who have already agreed to give you recs said? You have asked them if they know women in the other groups..right?????? And don't say no...that's the wrong answer here. After you've asked them ALL for ALL the other ones, THEN come back here - on the recruitment thread.

Really? Look to the left. There is a link called "Sorority Recruitment". Click on it. Read through the posts. Voila.

Mackenzie 06-23-2011 10:58 AM

That's just one of SO many. Would have taken me less than 10 seconds, if my computer wasn't so slow.

oh please. get off your "holier than thou" horse. plenty of women have pointed you in the right direction to get recs after you have exhausted all of your options by networking first. it's entirely your fault if you choose to ignore good advice. if you have this attitude and work ethic just preparing for rush, i wonder how you'll fare if some chapter does decide to extend a bid to you.

IrishLake 06-23-2011 11:07 AM

You're such a sucker, AnotherKD. ;)

Mackenzie 06-23-2011 11:08 AM

I thought maybe I'd check the first page of recruitment posts to see if maybe she was right, that they were a bit further back and she just didn't go back far enough. Nope. Whatever.

Sending you a PM in a few... :)

Mackenzie 06-23-2011 11:17 AM

Thank you so so much AnotherKD! No she's definitely not a sucker. She is very helpful, unlike you IrishLake. AnotherKD, do you think it's important to have letters for every sorority if im going to a SEC school?

AnotherKD 06-23-2011 11:23 AM

This is the first thread that shows up at the top under sorority recruitment. Last one I'm doing for you. But yes, no SEC school will look at you if you do not have a rec letter. It's not just helpful- it's required.

DaffyKD 06-23-2011 11:42 AM

Mackenzie,

When you entered the site using greekchat.com, did you happen to click on the oval at the top of the page with the Greekchat logo? If not, click that and the conversations will be broken down by categories. Click on Sorority Recruitment and you will then find a zillion topics answering all the questions you need regarding recommendations. Do not read only those for your school, but all the schools and there is a ton of good advise as to how to go about getting recommendations. After you read all of those and begin working on securing your recommendations, come back and we will then answer your questions that may arise during the process.

I am one of those people who went through rush long before the advent of the internet, I had no Greek family members, I knew no one who was Greek and yet I managed to go through rush, obtain a bid back in the days when I used to ride my pet dinosaur to class instead of using a bike and go on to become a very active alumna.

Good luck.

AnotherKD 06-23-2011 11:45 AM

@IL: Not hard to do! (totally joking, of course) ;)
