Poll Time: Distance to work and how long it take you?

I live 13,5 KM or about 8,4 miles to work.

It takes me, on average, 1,5 hours to go to work and 2,5 hours to go home.

Tulip86 06-08-2011 08:51 AM

For now, I live 1 mile from work, it takes me about 10 mins to go there, and 20 mins to go home (I take a detour because there are certain parts of town I avoid at night)

AnotherKD 06-08-2011 09:43 AM

I'm now just over 20 miles from work, and it's about 45 minutes each way (if I don't stop to get coffee).

DSTRen13 06-08-2011 09:57 AM

I'm currently between jobs, but with my previous position, it was sixteen miles away and took anywhere from 20 (leave on time, no traffic problems) to 45+ minutes to get to work. (What was bad was my job when I lived in Atlanta; 50 miles away, took two hours.)

agzg 06-08-2011 10:21 AM

6 miles, one hour. :) I love public transportation.

knight_shadow 06-08-2011 10:24 AM

~3 miles; 5-7 minutes (I take the Tollway to go to work and go against traffic, so it's fairly quick)

AOII Angel 06-08-2011 10:42 AM

18 miles from Phoenix to Mesa and it takes me anywhere from 25 minutes to 30 minutes to get there. Everyone is coming into Phoenix so I get to pass the cars making I-10 a parking lot, though it's not as bad as the BWI parkway in MD.

MaggieXi 06-08-2011 10:49 AM

19 miles (17 of which are highway). 20-25 mins. with no traffic. 45-60 with traffic. Poor suburban planning in the Philadelphia region.

KSUViolet06 06-08-2011 12:48 PM

15 minutes tops. Less than 10 miles.

TPA85 06-08-2011 01:21 PM

4.5 miles, mostly highway.
The part that isn't highway is heavy on traffic lights though so my transit time is highly based on those. Usually 20 minutes, 15 if I'm lucky.

AlphaFrog 06-08-2011 01:34 PM

37 mi. 40-80 min, bypass highway, usually shorter in the morning.

ellebud 06-08-2011 02:36 PM

husband: 5 blocks plus an elevator
daughter 1: 4 blocks and a valet
daughter 2: 1 block
son: 14 minutes...but if he parked here...4 blocks
me: housewife....I just run errands

Low C Sharp 06-08-2011 04:33 PM

1 mile, a 20 to 25 minute walk.

13.6 miles, and it takes me about an hour, door to door. A little more than an hour if I walk to the train, a little less if a catch a bus.

The frustrating part is that if there is not traffic and I drive, it's 20 minutes, tops.

IrishLake 06-08-2011 04:54 PM

Over 100 miles. About 2 hours (including time taken to drop my kids off at the sitters housein the nearest town).

BuckeyeTriDelta 06-08-2011 05:25 PM

By car 2 minutes, walking 20 minutes.

Mevara 06-08-2011 05:55 PM

10 mi by freeway, just under 20 min. 12 miles otherwise and about 30 min.

AGDee 06-08-2011 06:29 PM

22 miles: 25-30 minutes.

flirt5721 06-08-2011 06:37 PM

40 mile
to work ~45 min to 1 hour
Home ~1-2 hours

Depends on traffic and if there is no construction on I-10. My drive is mostly all highway with traffic.

Tulip86 06-08-2011 06:39 PM

During an internship I had to rely on public transport, 13 miles took me 1 1/2 hours. I had to switch buses 2 times, and wait forever for my connecting bus in sweltering heat (gotta love SoCal in July).

amanda6035 06-08-2011 06:45 PM

12 miles, 20-25 minutes

ADqtPiMel 06-08-2011 07:33 PM

About 3 miles, 30 minutes door to door on Metro. It's not horrible, but since for four years I lived half a block from my office, it's been an adjustment.

aephi alum 06-08-2011 07:39 PM

Unless I'm going to a client site:

Distance: 0 miles.
Time: 0 minutes.

I love being self-employed.

AOIIalum 06-08-2011 07:40 PM

About 6 miles and 10 minutes or so door-to-door. I'm really lucky.

Gusteau 06-08-2011 08:04 PM

According to google maps, my office is 0.8 miles away fmrom my apartment...which makes me feel exceedingly guilty for driving the 4/5 minutes there. In my defense it's hot out.:o

WCsweet<3 06-08-2011 08:40 PM

9 miles. It takes 14-18 minutes.

I haven't hit traffic yet.

Scully 06-08-2011 08:49 PM

30 miles. Between 40-50 minutes, depending on traffic.

NinjaPoodle 06-08-2011 09:10 PM

Depends on the shoot but basically, I work from home. :D

lucgreek 06-08-2011 09:26 PM

5 miles or so and it takes me about 15-20 minutes by driving in the morning. Hurray for reverse commute. But in the evening it can either take the same amount of time or almost double.
