Is Your House Zombie-Proof?
http://media.social.s-msn.com/images...use_280_PR.jpg
Zombie-proof house is a modern fortress. Concrete dwelling with movable walls and a drawbridge probably would protect against tornadoes and hurricanes, too. We've written about why you're unlikely to get a tornado-proof house. But you can get a house that protects you against another scary peril: zombies. That's right. An architect in Poland designed and built a zombie-proof house. http://realestate.msn.com/blogs/list...=35009&lc=1033 |
Maybe he was inspired by the blog post from the CDC expert in how to survive a zombie attack.

LOL. I'm a big fan of zombie movies with the original being Night of the Living Dead (yes, I own it). I will watch a good zombie movie a million times. One of my favs is the remake of Dawn of the Dead (yes, I own it) but I'll watch any zombie movie at least once.
I admit that I have hypothetically and relatively fleetingly thought of what I would do should a zombie outbreak occur. LOL. I have probably also had nightmares about it. Don't judge me. Yet, I never thought of planning my life around such an occurrence. Maybe this architect in Poland knows something we don't know. No. |

If so I recommend Feed and Deadline from Mira Grant (First two in the Newsflesh series) you're about 25-30 years POST Rising. Everyone is infected, if you die, you reanimate and so does any mammal over 40 lbs. It's a very different take on the genre and written by one of my favorite authors (Seanan McGuire under the pseudonym) ETA: I forgot what else I wanted to put here, that people who were fans of zombies and zombie movies helped save lives because they knew wtf was going on when the news channels were clueless. Similarly George/Georgia/Georgette are the most common names for children after Mr. Romero. Also good, Aftertime (more 'infected' than zombies), World War Z (of course ;) ), and The Walking Dead anthology (there may be a second one now too) Quote:

Can/should you play Plants vs Zombies in a zombie proof house?
I am so on the pipe of that game right now, and I've recently gotten my husband hooked. |

I knew some GCers would feel the zombie love. :o

1) How would I get to my family should a zombie attack occur? 2) What weapon? Crowbars do not suffice. LOL. 3) Food. Let's say I (with or without others) get stuck in the crib...is there enough food? LOL. Then I think about the horror of this scene: http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...51DruvaJ4BfDQA Quote:

Crowbars/blades are better than guns because they're quieter and don't need reloading. That's why you have to get out of the movie genre DrPhil, if you're going to survive!
I like 28 Days Later too, but I do make an infected vs. zombies distinction generally. Mostly because if we have fast zombies, I'm screwed. |

The real issue is does your sorority house have a plan to defend it from an attack by the undead. I bring this up at every chapter meeting but my sisters are only interested in the next date party. They will regret it when the undead eat their brains.

I have seen crowbars and blades used on some movies over the years. But, I've grown accustomed to crowbars and blades depicted as taking longer and therefore guns being best. Quote:
And technically the just-dead-and-now-alive are often now-alive because of some infection...or chemical warfare...or something. They just got the slow end of the deal. Quote:
I Am Legend was good (even the Will Smith version was decent, in my opinion) but I actually don't consider that a zombie movie. That could be my own bias. Quote:
And what about the zombie movies where the zombies are relatively smart? That's also scary. LOL. http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Zombie_Types (not wikipedia) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_zombie_films <---thinks George A. Romero is awesome...and adorable |
I AM LEGEND is a damn vampire movie. Or should have been. Damn movie makers.

LOL @ BadCat25. Keep fighting the good fight. Maybe having a zombie bookclub or zombie movie nights will make your sisters recognize what's at stake. Or, they may kick you out of the sorority and try to commit you to an insane asylum. The "infected" absolutely love hospitals and insane asylums. Be careful! |

Yeah they're undead, but they're specific undead! The Feed/Deadline books have recently 'amplified' (as viral overload can occur post-mortem or kill the individual while alive) zombies can run but they lose that ability relatively quickly. They're also smarter the more of them are around. It's a great twist. *wills the obsession to expand to reading* |

The movies depict them as vampire-esque but really just infected people who can be brought back because they are undead. Quote:

I was reading about hottie Simon Baker and remembered he was in that film. Such a frivolous way to recall a zombie film. George Romero, I have failed thee. :p |
I had a zombie dream last night. It was odd. On the plus side I was surrounded by people who had guns, on the minus side I did not have a gun. Or a crowbar, or bat, or sword.

I know I posted this in the "What do you feel like saying" thread, but it's more fitting here.
I started working out regularly again, and all this zombie talk makes me want to take part in an event like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFRfL0fmAOU |

Buuuuuuut, it's creepy and nightmarish as hell. I think I'd pay for the spectator ticket and partake in entertainment and food while the participants ran for their lives. :) http://www.runforyourlives.com/#/the-race |
I'm a fan of nightmarish things, so this would be right up my alley haha

Zombie apocalypse training is going down next weekend in Maryland.
Zombie Survival Trainings Just in case. |
How did I miss this thread? I have a super fascination/love/fear of zombies. In fact, I am convinced that one day, zombies will walk the earth and humanity as a whole will be wiped out except for the survivors (of which I plan to be a part of). LOL! I'm a dork, I know.
Regarding crowbars vs. guns vs. knives. It's a tough decision for me. To use crowbars & knives would require one to get physically close to a zombie which I would flat out not want to do unless I had no choice. The problem with guns though is they are loud & attract more zombies thus forcing you to fun like hell & find a place to hide out (if you're lucky). Best zombie movies that have scared the bejeezus out of me (or in somce cases, made me laugh hysterically): 28 Days Later Dawn of the Dead (2004 remake) Shaun of the Dead Zombieland The Walking Dead (not a movie but damn, I love this show). Another zombie question that often arises in debates: What zombie is more frightening? The slow moving zombie or the crazy fast running zombies? |

If life sucked so much that I absolutely had to choose a zombie to battle...the slow ones. |
We discussed the zombie runs. Has anyone considered a zombie walk?

Zombie movies are the only scary movies I don't enjoy. Except for 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later.

My hairdresser's aunt was one of the main zombies in the original Night of the Living Dead. She still gets paid to show up at conventions for autographs.
