What to wear for preference?

So I've gotten all my outfits for rush picked out, except for my dress for preference! Ours is during the day and they suggest what you'd wear to a summer wedding. I'm not sure if you know what Dillards is, but its a department store that I have a gift card to. So my question is, could you give me some suggestions for what would be appropriate (an example from Dillards would be awesome) Thank you!

It might help if you check the website for greeklife at your university. They will probably list examples of what is appropriate for each round of recruitment. Each school differs with how dressy their recruitment events are, so GC is in the dark on your school without some guidelines.

They don't. Apparently it gets sent to them after they register. Very stupid IMO.

Not knowing the school well, I found a couple dresses that I think are cute and probably safe for a little less formal and a little more formal.

But there are far better fashionistas on this site than me. Hopefully their 2 cents will be inserted.

Depending on body type...

Love this (and not expensive):

Ok, phone is being stupid, so I'm going to multi-post.

If you want to spend a little more and have the CONFIDENCE for it, I like this one:

Only if you don't have a huge chest, but I like the 50s vibe on this:

Shorties (like me) need not apply here:

I should mention too that if you're ordering, do it in plenty of time to exchange should the dress not work for you.

If you can pull off strapless without tugging on it all day:

Black or white shrug/cardigan suggested - remember, you're dressing to impress women, nit men.

You may want to ask one of your peers who perhaps went through recruitment last fall as to what is appropriate for your school. Ask somebody who has taste in style similar to yours, and I am sure that you will find a lot of different options.
Good luck!

Dress the PNM time again already? It's only May...

AXOrushadvisor 05-17-2011 03:48 PM

I would imagine that K-state may be a little more traditional in nature. A "summer wedding" is such a vague term in my opinion. Is it a day wedding or a night wedding? Is preference in the day or night? That would make a difference in what style you would pick. If it is at night I would go more cocktail, but if it is during the day I would tone it down a little. I would call the Greek Life office and ask them some questions. Also, sometimes the PNM's will be dressed predominantly in black. It would be nice to know if that is a tradition at this school.

(Good dresses)

Of the options I've seen, these are my favorites.

J. Crew has some lovely simple spring/summer-colored dresses on sale right now:
I like this one and this one quite a bit.

COBaby: You just made my night!! I was curious what people might be suggesting, but it turns out I have to go to a wedding in July, and that J. Crew Sophia dress is just what I was looking for (conservative but feminine, and a GREAT bargain).

I'm glad I happened to sign on tonight!

word of caution, if you decide on matisse blue, its more of a teal color in person, i go a dress similar to the sophia dress (except cotton and with a silk sash) for a wedding in april. gorgeous dress, just not the color i was expecting.

sdtennisgal 05-19-2011 10:42 AM

txAOII 15: Thanks for the head's up. (again, glad I happened to log on and check this!) I was ready to order the matisse blue, but I think I will go with the "spiced wine" instead (which is sort of fitting, since the wedding is up in Napa).

Thanks again!
