Lost my pin
Today was my sorority's Centennial Celebration so everyone was dressed in pin attire. After the celebration I went to Flatiron Crossings a mall near my house. AFter I was done shopping I realized my pin was missing. I had left in on bc I didn't have my case to put it in and I was still dressed in pin attire so I knew it was ok for me to wear it. I went back to some of the stores and no one had seen it. I didn't try any clothes on either.I went to lost and found to report it.When i got home I called every store I had been at of course no one had seen it. I was/am so sad. I bawled the whole way home. My pin means so much to me. I didn't think I would lose it since i wear it every Mon all day and I go to classes and never had a problem. My pin was expensive too bc it had rubies and pearls on it. It was almost three hundred dollars. I can not afford to buy another one right now. Ugh! I am mad at myself for losing it. What do I do?!
|
Oh no!
I don't exactly know what you should do. But hopefull it will turn up. I know what you are experiencing. I wore my pin on a black JCrew sweater to chapter meeting. I took the sweater off as I was driving and threw it in the back. A few days later, my car was stolen. With 2 pairs of letters (embroidered ones), and my sweater with my pin on it! Ugh. I hope you find it! |
All you can do is pray someone turns it into lost or found or just look and see if anyone puts it on ebay.
|
This won't get the one you lost back, but it may help in getting a new one.
My nationals has a program for alums and initiates that need to replace their pins or want to upgrade them (you can't use it to get the original). They sell refurbished ones that have been returned to nationals for whatever reason at a reduced cost. Usually they have a supply of any of the pins meaning that even if you had a really fancy one they probably have an identical one. zntke711 is right though, keep an eye on e-bay. My pin was stolen from my apartment a few years ago (along with other jewelry) I haven't given up hope, and keep on checking. |
I'm so sorry to hear you lost your badge! :(
I'm always paranoid about that. Every once in a while I have to do those frantic searches for it. It's usually on the last top I wore to chapter! Just hang in there, I hope it turns up somewhere...:( |
I'm so sorry you lost your pin. :(
Have you checked the function room where the celebration was? Or did you still have it then? If there were sisters from other chapters there, maybe one of them found it and held onto it because she didn't know whose it was. Definitely check ebay. If you don't find yours - you may find a relatively inexpensive one. It won't be "your" badge, but it will be something. Also, check with your nationals. Someone may have found it on the ground and been kind enough to send it to them; that's what I'd do. And if you are lucky enough to get it back, I advise that you get a chapter guard, or at least get a jeweler to look at the clasp, so you're less likely to lose it again. |
I know that I had it when I went to the mall because I remember looking down to make sure it was still on. UGH I am so distraught over this. I think when I changed arms to put my purse on it knocked my pin off.
I'm just worried some little kid found it and said OOOhhh pretty and kept it. I'll check nationals to see if they have pins. |
Lana - double check on the clothes you were wearing, inside your coat and in your pockets. One time I thought I lost my class ring and was in hysterics - I had to go home for Christmas break thinking it was gone. When I came back, I found it in the pocket of my khakis (on a hanger with the pocket upside down, mind you).
Call the main info desk at the mall, hopefully if someone found it and turned it in it would go there. If someone's kid found it I am sure they would take it from them. |
Also, when you decide to get a new pin or found your old one, invest in a chapter guard or a crest guard. It might save it from your pin falling off!

Delta Gamma has this on their badges, and if your badge didn't come with it, it is an excellent idea to get one. You don't even see it. I hope hope hope that you find your pin! |
Can you order your badges through your National?
LXA has a site on site to order Badges!:) May check with them first! Sometimes on ebay also! I have picked up Badges off of it and also saw a AP badge but went back to check it to let My Sisters of a Greek Org know but could not find it again! Good Luck, thought I lost mine and went nutsoid!!!!!!!! |
I wrote my Nationals, but they are horrible at responding if they even do respond. HEck they lost the paperwork we sent in September for the termination of a member.
The new member ed said I may be able to buy some pins half price that girls had ordered who never received them because they dropped out. THe only thing is my pin was the most expensive one and I really want the same one. I don't want a plainer version, of course I don't know which ones these girls ordered. |
Did you check your National web site? Find out who makes the Pins and contact them direct! What Soroity are you looking for and I will keep my eye out!!! :)
If you go to ebay, type name of Soro in search slot and go there! Also sometimes vintagefraternitypins.com have some! Let me know and again I will check for ya! :D |
Tom Earp
I'm in Alpha Sigma Alpha. I checked ebay and they didn't have any ASA pins.
|
I will keep an eye out for you, pun intended as an old joke!:D
Your Chapter is across the street from ours and do a lot with the chapter in fact one of our LXA is married to one of your district directors. God doesnt your National know who they order the Pins from? They could at least tell you that so you could order one! Good luck and I will be on the look out for you and if spot something will let you know ASAP:) |
I got a reply
My nationals sent me an email with the email address of a jewelery place I can get pins from.
|
Are you going to get the same one as you had before?
Is that jewerly shop local? |
The jewelery store isn't local as far as I know. I joined my house fall 2000 and didn't get my pin until Fall this year. I want the same pin, but i don't have the funds right now. I think I will wait and order one when the spring rushees order theirs. I will still look and if I find one cheap enough I'll get it.
|
geez, why did it take so long to recieve your pin?! If I ever had to re-order my badge, I'd have to go through our IHQ. Do you have to as well, or can you order direct to the jewelers?
|
The reason it took a yr is because new member ed at the time didn't send our stuff in so in the spring the new-new member ed had to send it in. I have no idea, but Mr. Earp is being a big help.

PALEEZZE
LANA, Mr. is my Father!:D
Just call me Tom!;) |
I lost my pin too....we had a tradition that when we got initiated our big gave us a white hankie. We were to pin our badge on it and wear it inside our dress on our wedding day, which I did. In the ensuing melee, I ended up taking it out and slipping it into a gift bag so I wouldn't lose it (ha!!!) Well someone (either me or my mom) later grabbed the bag, thought it was just tissue wadded up in it, and pitched it (aaaaarrggh!) It wasn't until 4 years later, when I attended Convention as an advisor, that I ordered a new one. Now I just need to get a badge ring to put it on and wear and enjoy. (Mind you, my little had lost it when I gave it to her so I was without it for over a year then til she found it, then I got it back and lost it again at the wedding.)
|
But aren't you old Tom Earp- like in your forties?:D
|
ouch!
|
I'm just playing with Tom I know he is much older than Forty!;)
|
There is a place in Indianapolis, Indiana that makes the pins for my sorority and I bet they make other sorority pins too. I can't remember their name-sorry but maybe call AXO national-they will have the name b/c I originally heard about it from the current president (I asked b/c i lost a pearl from my badge)
good luck! and if I remeber the name I will re-post |
OUCH
Thank Ya AG1019!!!!! For the Ouch:)
Lana, I am a very mature 24:D Or the other way;) Will not tell:D |
I know how u feel. Big sisters give their littles their badge until they get their own. Well, when I gave my badge to my little sister, I kept thinking in my head "please don't lose it". We were cleaning up after a sisterhood thing, and she had it in her hand, and what did she do? She lost it! I'm not mad at her becuz it could've happend to anyone. I think we just order our badges through national so hopefully I'll be getting mine when her badge comes in. But I don't think I would want someone else's badge that was returned to national becuz our initials and initiation date were engraved on the back. Do any other organizations do that?
|
Have you checked in your car? Under the seats, under the floormats, between seat and door, in every crevass? Have you looked to see if it fell into your purse?
My badge has a badge guard on it so that both latches would have to come undone for the badge to fall off. |
AGD Badges
Traditions have changed over the years. At one time, the sister's name, school, member ID and initation date (?) were engraved on the back. Wow, musta been squeezed since the badge isn't that large, lol.
My member ID is on the back but I don't think that they do that anymore. Since AGD has been around since 1904, maybe more badges are passed down to newer sisters. If a sister receives someone else's badge, I think it would be neat to know who had it before. :) |
I don't have a badge guard. I haven't checked my car thouroughly bc I lost it before I got into my car.
Mr. Earp oh sorry Tom- I think you gave away your age in a post a long time ago. You mentioned the yr you started in your fraternity if i remember correctly. |
Lynn,
Nope, the don't inscribe names or year on the back of the badge anymore! I thought about getting it done myself. |
