Omar bin Laden's Statement

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...googlenews_wsj

WASHINGTON—A son of Osama bin Laden released a letter Tuesday accusing the U.S. of violating international law in the military operation that killed the al Qaeda leader.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/worl...al_qaeda_.html

Osama bin Laden's son complained Tuesday that his father was summarily executed, deprived of a fair trial and denied a family burial.
The son, who has previously denounced his father's murderous ways, said President Obama was no better than the notorious terrorist.

I completely see where he is coming from and, from the perspective he is coming from, I agree with him.

And on a petty level, I love his hurrrrrr and overall look.

IrishLake 05-10-2011 08:52 PM

Don't care for his statement, but yeah, his hair rocks. I want to take tweezers to his uni though.

LaneSig 05-10-2011 08:53 PM

I usually keep my political views to myself.

But, too effing bad. Where was the trial for the people who died on 9/11? They were executed without committing any crime. I'm sure their families wish they had a gravesite to visit. If bin Laden wanted a trial, he should have turned himself in.

Too effing bad.

Well said!

The end.

^ Ditto.

PiKA2001 05-10-2011 09:07 PM

I am also appalled at President Obama's actions and believe he should be arrested and tried via the UN for war crimes........

J/K LOLOLOLOL!!! :p

This. I DO understand where this guy is coming from, I just really don't give a fuck, and it's not like we haven't killed terrorists in Pakistan before by drone attacks :).

Ok how is the assassination of a military leader a war crime?

We are technically not at war with Afghanistan, nor any other entity of which Osama is a part.

so because he's not affiliated with a state government, he's not an "enemy combatant?"

i see no problem with shooting him. things get pretty hairy when bullets start flying. i wouldn't have minded torturing the shit out of him, though.

Drolefille 05-10-2011 09:48 PM

Yeah it's his dad, but...

Can I have his hair?

Basically, we make up the rules about these things as we go along. The Geneva Convention may or may not agree.

DrPhil 05-10-2011 09:53 PM

I know I'm wrong for this, but just let your soullllll glooooooooo.....

Wait, what?

Let's start with "Summary execution" ... there are different rules for enemy combatants than civilians, and I believe Osama certainly qualified as an enemy combatant, right?

So essentially any action other than prostrating himself/giving himself up with a white flag nude could be considered a combative action per international rules. There's no shot at "summary execution" given the situation.

Drolefille 05-10-2011 11:44 PM

^^^ Can't be because his dad was killed and he's grieving the loss of a father no matter how much of an asshole the father was to him and the crimes he committed.

Regardless, he's not the first person to question the legality of the raid, and quite frankly I suspect that in this situation we're saying "Screw you guys, we told we'd break the rules, and we did, so wtf did you expect? Do something about it, try us." But I'm not an international law expert, and neither is he.

I understand being upset, but he's invoking some difficult legal matters ... honestly, I feel horrible for bin Laden's family, because they're in a brutal spot, but that is Osama bin Laden's doing - not the United States.

There is a good amount of evidence that Pakistan (explicitly or implicitly) allowed actions within their borders that would get bin Laden. There are other matters beyond that, but it's not as simple as "invading a sovereign nation" or anything like that.

My (first-blush) reading of international treaties and agreements shows that many conflict or are vague - it's not easy to say either way. That obviously is its own problem, but at the same time, operating in a gray area is much better than "making up the rules."

Sure, but we're the easiest to blame. *shrug* It doesn't bother me that he blames us. What does it matter what he thinks?

Eh, I'm not even going to bother, I'm not an expert nor pretending to be here. Ultimately I don't think it matters, because no one is going to do a thing about it except complain.

This is no competition. He had three wives at the time of his death and 6 over the course of his life. Michelle's doing all that shit by herself!

I'm torn between a joke about overachieving and a joke about 'typical Americans' so instead here's a gif.

I'd have 20-26 children with that.

Every time I see it I think it says "Osamar" and I hear an old British man saying it and I smile.

Maybe "Jr" is looking for his 15 minutes in the spotlight. Could he be looking to replace "good ol' dad" in the terrorist hierarchy?

And now ladies and gents the new look of Al-Qaeda!

And you're trolling again.

Read about him, he's not a fan of his dad's ways. But it seems like he, and his brothers, feel like they need to defend him in death and criticize the manner of his death. I can understand that even if I don't agree with it.

Too effing bad.

In other situations with innocent victims, offenders don't get trials and due process?

Other offenders who don't turn themselves in, and instead get caught, still receive trials and due process.

Does all this not apply because of the following?

He is not a U.S. Citizen.
The nature of the crimes
Other reasons?

If his son is genuine, what a horrible situation. I'm sure I would feel different if I was close to one of the victims.
