LOL. President Obama to make a speech shortly....

I didn't know whether this went in News&Politics or Entertainment. I think it's meant to be entertaining, so....

I just turned to Celebrity Apprentice and, following the *dom-dom-dom* sound, there's a notice at the bottom of the screen that President Obama is going to make a speech shortly.

Ummm...there's no speech so I conclude that either President Obama is messing with Donald Trump or vice versa. Probably Trump messing with President Obama. What's going on here? I swear I better not be the only person who saw that notice at the bottom of the screen. :o

DrPhil 05-01-2011 10:35 PM

It happened again:

"From NBC News...President Obama expected to make important statement shortly. Repeat...President Obama expected to make important statement shortly. Stand by for live coverage on this NBC station."

I'm not on twittttter, but Google is showing all of these twittters about it from NBC News affiliates.

knight_shadow 05-01-2011 10:35 PM

My T_witter and FB pages are blowing up about this.

"All I know is he bet' not interrupt Celebrity Apprentice. Wait til after they fire someone."

"This will be about Zombies, aliens, or Osama."

I really want to hear what this is about, but I want finish watching Celebrity Apprentice right now lol

DrPhil 05-01-2011 10:38 PM

If it is real, I want it to interfere with Celebrity Apprentice. That should be the point. LOL.

President Obama > Donald Trump

Now, if Trump is just messing with the nation, that is really jacked up. I will say that I tend not to watch all of Celebrity Apprentice or listen to Obama's speeches. But, this back and forth is as entertaining as GC so I haven't switched the channel. They win, I guess.

knight_shadow 05-01-2011 10:42 PM

There are a lot of unconfirmed reports that this is about Osama Bin Laden being dead. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

DrPhil 05-01-2011 10:43 PM

Yikes.

If that's the case, this is a News & Politics thread.

I seriously doubt that Bin Laden is dead, even if they report that he's dead. Connnnnnnspiracccccyyyyyyyy....

DrPhil 05-01-2011 10:46 PM

Okay, they interrupted Celebrity Apprentice. :D LOL. We will miss who was given the boot. Well played, Obama Administration, well played.

It is about Osama Bin Laden. He is dead. So they say. That son of a bitch. Now, onto catching his many minions around the world.

tri deezy 05-01-2011 11:00 PM

So far it sounds like he was killed in Afghanistan and they did a full analysis including DNA to confirm that it was, in fact, Osama bin Laden.

Pretty funny that it's interrupting Celebrity Apprentice :)

knight_shadow 05-01-2011 11:01 PM

I want to know why they have his DNA

When his sister died in Boston from cancer, the government attained some of her DNA to match it with his if they ever got a body.

Because they've been hunting the guy? His family's lived in the US.

That should have been "how" they got his DNA

I'd like to know how they were able to get his DNA. I thought the man was crazy careful with where he was seen and with whom he associated.

Er, that first one is probably not possible.

And as noted, his family's been here, we've been hunting him, one way or another they have a way to compare the DNA. He's not always been so reclusive.

Donald Trump: "You're fired!"

The Nation: (awkward silence)

President Obama: Hey, Trump, while you were stuntin' my birth certificate, we were busy stuntin' Osama Bin Laden. Good luck with tonight's episode.

The Nation: Oh snap! Osama Bin Laden is dead! WooooooO!

I'm not cynical enough to think this was staged for timing, this time of night is not a good time to make big announcements or anything however:

Someone's campaign just got a LOT easier for 2012.

I see nothing cynical about being amused by the timing of the time of the night that this announcement was made.

Yep and I'm sure the Obama Administration has made note of that.

Oh no, I don't think they'd be able to keep quiet that long. Then again, what do we commoners know.

It would be amazing if he just sat silently for 30 minutes. Then, at 11:00 eastern, he speaks up and admits that he just wanted to fark with "The Apprentice"'s ratings.
From a comment online.

LOL. As serious as this announcement is, I wouldn't be shocked if President Obama was sitting, drinking a chai latte so this could interfere with Celebrity Apprentice.

I'm getting tired of hearing the reporters talking. President needs to hurry up or I will put in this dvd.

Alumiyum 05-01-2011 11:34 PM

They've switched to an empty podium at the White House so it can't be too much longer...

He has arrived. This is powerful stuff. We are united as one American family.

Okay, I kind of want him to spare the poetic introduction and just say "ding dong, the witch is dead...ding dong, the wicked witch is dead...."

Second this^

DrPhil 05-01-2011 11:46 PM

Good announcement. Understandably, President looked tired. I did chuckle at the empty podium, the walk down the red aisle, and the walk back up the red aisle.

knight_shadow 05-01-2011 11:50 PM

Now I'm getting the "So he's dead. I don't care. I have school tomorrow." tweets from my sister's TL.

Oh, these kids.

DrPhil 05-01-2011 11:51 PM

There's a party in Washington, D.C. around the White House. :) It's a celebration, bitches. Tomorrow might be a national holiday.

This is like America's Royal Wedding party.

AGDee 05-01-2011 11:59 PM

Donald Trump is demanding to see the long form of the death certificate.

SOM 05-02-2011 12:07 AM

To the SEALs/DELTA/CIA or what ever the combo team of forever unknowns-BRAVO ZULU!! TO the Special Ops, Military and support teams ever involved in this war-THANK YOU!

DrPhil 05-02-2011 12:33 AM

LOL @ Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live. He made the announcement and people are celebrating with libations.

Alumiyum 05-02-2011 12:39 AM

I dislike being happy when someone dies.

But I say try everything once and this seems like a good time to try being-happy-when-someone-dies. I'm hoping that this can be kind of a cheery thought for everyone that survived the storms this week.

I just laughed a laugh I rarely do. The throw my head back and do the deep booming Ursula-the-Seawitch laugh. That's one of my two "OMG that was so hilarious I almost died" laughs.

Ditto. Just because of who I am, I'm never "happy" when someone else is murdered, no matter what he's done. However, I'm definitely not sorry about the situation. If anyone deserves a slow roll to hell, he does. I guess justice isn't always a happy feeling.

This is exactly how I'm feeling. Can't say I wasn't creeped out by the "Osama is dead barcrawl" that I saw pop up in my news feed.

DrPhil 05-02-2011 01:06 AM

I felt the same way until I remembered that Osama isn't the first person whose death made me Praise the Lord--or feel apathetic.

honeychile 05-02-2011 01:09 AM

Guy just held up a sign:

GWU Tuition: 42K
Dorm: 10K
Finding out that Obama is Dead: Priceless

I know what you mean - I don't feel like rejoicing at anyone's death. I'm praying about the response around the world. The news is saying that his son is dead, too.

EPIC TYPO FAIL.

Yikes.

Those who were criticizing Obama's name during the campaign are like "I told you so!!!"

EPIC TYPO FAIL.

You know, it's been almost 10 years since 9/11, about 18 since the first WTC bombing, they should know how to spell Osama.

They've had almost four years of campaign and presidency to screw up the Obama/Osama 'thing' and no longer have any excuse.
