Nail Polish
I love nail polish. I wear many different colors and brands. Right now, many companies are doing polish like OPI's Black Shatter. Check out the pic, it gives nail polish a cracked texture. I'm mostly into brights and pastels since Spring is finally here. Anyone loving nail polish like I am?

I remember seeing something about this a while ago, and thinking it was really cool. A couple of my friends have this polish. The cracked look doesn't really go with my style, but if you can rock it, more power to you! My favorite polish trend of the moment is all of the spring colors. I love the mint, lavender, dark purple, and hot coral colors. I wear a lot of pastels, so these colors work for me.
A good website to help build you nail polish collection: eyeslipsface.com. At first glance, it seems a little sketchy, since everything is a dollar, but those nail polishes are really good. They don't chip off easily, they don't need a lot of coats, and they have a great selection of colors. It beats most of the other brands I've tried (excluding OPI and Essie). If you go to retailmenot.com, you can find some coupon codes that will get you free shipping so you will only have to pay for the polish (or makeup) you buy. I have the mint and light purple colors from here, and I love them :) |

I own a full set of their professional brushes, they are all fantastic! I also own many of the mineral eye shadows. I got them on a sale of buy one get one free. You should definitely try the polish. The sparkly red color is my hands-down favorite though, it reminds me of red velvet cake.

I really want to try the Sally Hansen nail polish strips this summer when I'm not teaching. They look pretty fun, especially the patterns. I tried a similar product from Avon a year or so ago. The nail strips were tricky to put on. They were kinda wrinkly. But they didn't chip and were pretty difficult to remove with nail polish remover. Hopefully the SH kind are easier to use.

I really, really want to try the "laced up" version of the nail polish strips. I suck at doing detailed nail art and can't really afford to go to a salon. If anyone has used these let me know!

A lot of my FB friends have been nuts lately over a product line called Zoya. To the point that some of them ordered 8 - 10 bottles of polish.

I guess I'm just an old-fashioned girl ... nail polish patterns never really appealed to me (aside from a brief phase in high school where I would apply a bottom coat, a color, a clear polish with gold sparkles, and then a top coat). I hardly even wear nail polish any more. I've grown my fingernails long, and shape them, and I type wicked fast despite the long nails (probably upwards of 80wpm) because I learned to touch-type after I grew out my nails. I keep my toenails well trimmed. And that's it. To me, the "cracked" look just looks like you or your manicurist made a mistake.

Patters look awful on my nails... I have big hands, long fingers, big nails. I'm loving the colors that are in this spring though. I had robin's egg blue for a couple weeks but it was cheap polish (Wild Thing or something brand from Forever 21) so I dished out the money for Essie's Sugar Daddy, which barely shows up on my nails after two coats, but I love the subtle hint of pink. I'll probably get one shade up, Pink Diamonds, next though, for a little more color. Or I may go back to robin's egg blue for Easter because it does look very Easter eggy :D I'll probably go back to Sally Hansen's Truffle for summer.
I'm kind of an outspoken nail polish enthusiast :o |
I've seen this nail polish and it's very nice. Though I've never tried it, I still thank you for this thread! My favorite nail polish (CG Nail Slicks in Cherry Brandy) was long ago discontinued but this thread gave me the idea to search for it online. I just ordered 4 bottles. :)

Last weekend I got this color at ULTA and totally love it. The flash washed out the color a little bit, it's like a opalescent turquoise:

^^^I have seen it and I love that polish, but can't find it!

My past several color changes have all been reds & corals, and it's about time to switch it up - anyone have any recs for good summer-y blue creme polishes? I love blue polishes for spring & summer, but I *hate* sparkle on my nails & it seems like every blue I find is all shimmery.

My favorite blue is by Mavala, its called Cyclades http://img-2.fruugo.com/product/4/28/1117284_max.jpg http://www.totalbeauty.se/wp-content...s-blue-167.jpg |
I highly recommend the Sally Hansen nail foils...I use them often and they really do last for at least a week. I always put one top coat on top of them, but I don't think they would chip without it. It just looks slightly more like nail polish to me with the top coat.
Either Sally Hansen or Revlon just came out with a crackle line...can't remember which, but I've noticed just about every drug store has a display of them out now. And it works just as well as the OPI. I'm all about paying less if the product is just as good, and this stuff is. I bought a bottle of black and used it over hot pink...it's out-there, but I like to have fun when I don't have to look particularly polished. (Also IMO it's easier to get away with patterned or loud nails when you keep them short.) I'm a nail polish addict. I started keeping them painted 24/7 (though I do it myself) when I became a printmaking major since I had ink under my nails at all times...opaque polish hid the stains. Love Essie and OPI but I've honestly found that I can usually find colors and quality that are just as good from Sally Hansen, and they have a few lines that are cheaper than Essie. |

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_l55rPPAJF_...+-+Collage.jpg I also love Essie Mesmerize, a bright royal blue: http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_kz...uekjo1_500.jpg My favorite dark blues are Teal by Rescue Beauty Lounge and OPI Russian Navy. |
^ That Essie Mesmerize is so nice! I recently went green with Essie Pretty Edgy. My girlfriends had mixed reviews, but it's so Spring and unexpected.

I tried these for the first time yesterday and love the look but have mixed feelings on the strips themselves. I had a couple of application issues - if you're not REALLY careful it's easy to tear the nail polish coming off the strip. I also found it difficult to file down cleanly - I ended up tearing the strips in a few places at the tip of my nail (now that they're topcoated, and more "set", I'm actually thinking of filing my whole nail down to try to fix it but worry about making more tears). A lot of folks were saying to use topcoat, so I did, but only have Seche Vite on hand right now which is great for applying to wet polishes but isn't awesome for dry. So I've noticed some shrinkage at the tips of my nails as well. Given that the pattern I used is black with a silver metallic it's not that noticeable but it bothers me quite a bit. These could be "first timer" issues, though - I should have use a pattern I didn't like as much (and wasn't discontinued, LOL) for my first time so I didn't waste as much. I'll leave it on for a few days or until the messed up-ness of it is really noticeable just to see how long they stay. If it's 10 days that's awesome but at the same time I like to change my polish color a lot. I got another pattern (that's black with holographic glitter) that I'll be willing to try, depending on how days 2 through whatever go with what I've got on now. This pattern is called "Prep's Cool" and is part of the discontinued Christmas line - which is on clearance at my Target (not gonna lie, there were a bunch and they're hidden on a random endcap so I might go back today and get more, since I need to return something anyway). http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/w...repsCool-2.jpg BTW, when I first posted on this thread I only had like 5 different nail polish colors and they were mostly the cheaper ones (like Revlon). Since then I've fallen back in love with OPI and found China Glaze so my "collection" has grown significantly and it's now taking up an entire bathroom drawer. |
Try Butter London...you won't be sorry. Best nail polish ever! They sell it at Ulta.

Love the new spring/summer OPI collection..
The Holland Collection :) My faves are "A roll in The Hague" http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/m...4/099d6007.jpg "I Don't Give a Rotterdam" http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/m...4/7243a98a.jpg "Dutch'ya just love OPI" http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/m...4/524d28de.jpg "Thanks a Windmillion" http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/m...4/26f2b73c.jpg "Vampsterdam" http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/m...4/965f8366.jpg and of course: "Kiss me on my Tulips" http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/m...4/2b3e9d69.jpg |
Wow, I just love "Dutch'ya just love OPI".
|
Hope they have "Kiss me on my Tulips" and "Dutch'ya just love OPI" in the gel color line.
|
Thanks for posting the new colors...my OPI collection is getting out of control! I just got two of the new Nicki Minaj by OPI colors this weekend
|
Thanks! I'm excited now!
I also love "Wooden Shoe Like to Know." |

It looks like they're coming out early February - Live-in's mom is a hair stylist so maybe she can go to her local beauty supply and pick a few of them up for me!
I'll probably do the same for some of the China Glaze Hunger Games colors. http://addictedtoallthingspretty.com...RT-753x582.jpg |

Now I just have to find a place in Holland that actually sells OPI and China Glaze! (and NARS for that matter). I like to try stuff before buying, every make-up product I've bought online ended up being the wrong color, or just unflattering. |

I wasn't actually aware OPI was commercially available. I've only ever seen it at nail salons. But I've been very pleased with how well it holds up after a manicure. |

^^ My connection said that according to her professional beauty supplier, it will be out February 1st. They have all of the new colors and swatches locked up in an acrylic box until then.
Either way, it is weird that they aren't on the OPI site yet. |
If you are looking to buy OPI or China Glaze for cheap, look online for a place called transdesign. OPI sells for like $3 a bottle there and China Glaze is usually cheaper than that. I have over 100 bottles of nail polish, most are OPI and China Glaze, and a lot of them came from that site. Shipping is quick and it doesn't cost a lot to ship. I usually pick up 10 bottles at a time from them.
No, I'm not a professional nail artist. I just really love nail polish! |

I was at Nordstrom Rack this past weekend and they had the Nicki Minaj colors on sale, which was funny because they just came out. |
I just got my first gel manicure about a week ago. So far, I love it! My nail tech uses gelish. I just wish she had more colors to choose from in the gel polish selection. Many of the polishes were very dark and vampy. Think black, blue, purple, dark red. I'm more of a beige/baby pink fan.

Have any of you ever tried Sensationail by Nailene? Yes, it's El Cheapo brand, but I want to try a DIY gel/UV manicure and the reviews for this product are, surprisingly, better than most. So, what say you? Have you used it? Did/do you like it?
|
So, I tried Sensationail. It does indeed last two weeks - I was impressed. The application process was pretty easy and the polish stayed shiny and chip-free.
I'm not impressed, however, with the removal process or the current state of my nails. I've never done the gel/UV thing - is it common for your nails to be rough upon removal or is this just a 'you get what you pay for' moment? |
No, your nails are rough after you take off a gel manicure. There is no good way to take them off. I removed a gel manicure 2 weeks ago and my nails don't look so hot.
|
I'm loving the new Revlon ColorStay nail polish! I painted my nails on Thursday night. Hand washed a week's worth of dishes on Sunday night (as in hands in hot, sudsy water scrubbing for 30 mins) and just one teeny tiny chip on my thumb nail. It's hardly noticeable.
Most nail polishes (even OPI) don't stand up to my dish washing routine. Considering I don't have a dishwasher.... |
