This is the pathetic part.

I guess I missed when that happened.

Hopefully OWN will get on those old soap episodes she was talking about STAT.

ellebud 04-14-2011 05:02 PM

I have friends who work on those shows..........I don't watch them (never got into them) but the carnage.

LikeASista 04-14-2011 05:26 PM

Oh, Lord .... I haven't watched soap operas since junior high school, but this is the end of an era. I feel sad just because ... :(

BluPhire 04-14-2011 06:25 PM

First they saying Soapnet is going to be another Disney channel, now they canceling the staples of Daytime Television.

Man I'm gonna miss Erica Kane.

LatinaAlumna 04-14-2011 06:41 PM

Yea, I do not like this one bit, especially given the shows they are being replaced with!

I have many fond memories of tuning in with my mom and sister. This is so sad. Now, if they touch GH, I am never watching ABC again.

Benzgirl 04-14-2011 07:35 PM

I thought Erica Kane would die onscreen.

Honeykiss1974 04-14-2011 09:07 PM

Darn! I guess we don't need fake soap operas thanks to the multitude of reality shows that provide "real" life drama (and at a cheaper costs).

RIP to the end of an era.

AGDLynn 04-14-2011 09:08 PM

Coincidentally, she was on the Nate Berkus show today hawking her new book.

SigmaShelley 04-14-2011 09:17 PM

I would schedule my classes around that show! It won't be the same without Erica Kane.

Ditto! I am too thru :(

groovypq 04-15-2011 12:06 AM

My mom used to watch all three ABC soaps, then trickled off to GH only. I only watch GH, myself, but I'm really, really sad to see AMC and OLTL go.

As someone said on another forum, if GH survives past 2013 I'll be surprised. There's already rumors it goes in Sept. 2012.

KSUViolet06 04-15-2011 12:12 AM

My mom is a big soap watcher and I heard her talking on the phone to my aunt about she hopes NBC doesn't follow suit and cancel Y&R (her fave.)

Y&R is on CBS

Y&R has been given a three year extension.

Not that it could change its mind.

Senusret I 04-15-2011 11:38 AM

YOU SHUT YOUR FACE WITH THAT CRAZY TALK!

They will never take my beloved Y&R from me!

*rocking on the floor*

Hey Sen - did you ever find those Y & R clips on demand that I told you about? I watched one from when Kay was still a lush, yelling at Phillip over the divorce papers. She was wearing a very Phyllis Diller looking hostess-dress thing and frosted peach lipstick. So awesome.

Senusret I 04-15-2011 11:44 AM

It's not available on my cable service :( At least not through the xfinity website.

nikki1920 04-15-2011 12:06 PM

I started watching AMC and OLTL as a favor for a friend while she was in class. I was hooked after the second episode. I watched it, off and on (work and such), for about 7 years. I really hate that ABC is cancelling two shows that are so integral to daytime TV. The replacement shows sound very lame. Hopefully, some other channel will pick them up so that we can get our Pine Valley and Llanview fixes.

srmom 04-15-2011 03:47 PM

I was so sad to hear about this. Back in my college days, we would schedule our classes around AMC, OLTL, and GH. We'd all meet up in the TV room at the house with our lunches and watch together.

So many good memories of that!

Us too. And if you walked through the union, there'd be huge groups of guys watching those soaps.

ASUADPi 04-15-2011 05:55 PM

This is depressing.

While I don't religiously watch AMC or OLTL, I definitely kept up with what is going on via Soap Opera Digest or online.

I'm disappointed with OLTL because there was talk about bringing the original Todd back (whatever his real name is). I'd LOVE to see him on again.

ABC better leave my GH alone!!!!!!!

I would much rather watch a soap opera than some of the retarded reality TV out there, but hey that is just me.

Angelicqt716 04-16-2011 02:03 AM

I started watching AMC, OLTL, and GH with my grandmother when she would keep me during the summer. As I got older I trickled down to just AMC, and every time I watch it I feel close to her. Those were our memories.... and now they're cancelling them!!!! *Sighs* I never thought this day would come...

It sure is...I watched Y & R in university and loved it. Now it's nothing but "reality" nonsense on TV.

Benzgirl 04-16-2011 10:31 AM

Since I haven't watched a soap in over 30 years, I'm not too sad. I would rather watch The Chew, since my man, Michael Symon, will be on it.

Damn it, he becomes an Iron Chef and then starts doing everything but Iron Chefing! I want Batali back.

I though he was still doing Iron Chef. I'm a little behind. Anyway, here is the promo that I saw on the internet. Go Carla!

OMG Batali! Never mind I love this upcoming show. Also I love Carla, even if I thought she was just nuts at first in Top Chef. She's nuts AND awesome.

And yeah he is doing Iron Chef still, it just seemed like as soon as he won he was doing three or four other shows. He was doing Dinner:Impossible for a while, then Cook Like an Iron Chef on Cooking Channel, now a "Food Feuds" show that's a mix between Throwdown and DDDs.

Roger Howarth is still coming back. There's speculation that they got him back because they were afraid of the cancellation coming and wanted to go out with a bang. And if they weren't cancelled, well hell, it's still good soap. :) Personally I hope it turns out that "new" Todd has been a fake all along and that Tea was in on it...no amnesia or twin crap.

I watched soaps one summer with my aunt in SC - a city girl in the country was BORED! i think we watched Y&R/Bold and the Beautiful. Some story about a girl who stole a baby from another girl (a sister or cousin?) and the baby had a birthmark on its butt, or leg?

it was great TV for a bored 14 year old. But, to your quoted post, Michael Symon? yes. Light skinned bald men do it for me.

Between Oprah ending in September and THIS?! ABC better figure something out.

Oprah is syndicated. She airs on the NBC affiliate in this market.

Right, I was just saying that ABC has nothing to do with her show.
