New colony!

Posted to Facebook earlier today:

Alpha Gamma Delta will be colonizing at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee, this fall!

Benzgirl 03-28-2011 06:26 PM

I missed this, and I'm so happy to hear it. This came from the press release:

" Alpha Gamma Delta is pleased to announce we will be colonizing at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee. Colonization activities will begin in fall 2011.
“Alpha Gamma Delta is excited to become a part of the growing and vibrant campus at Austin Peay State University,” said Jackie Brannon Stutts, International President. “We are energized about the opportunity to contribute to a university that values a collaborative and integrated learning community.”
The fastest growing university in Tennessee, Austin Peay State University is comprised of over 10,000 students. Austin Peay is a four-year public, masters level university offering over 56 majors and 63 different concentrations. "

unfortunately, Greek life at APSU is really struggling despite the fact the campus is growing...most students still commute and don't have the finances to get involved in a greek organization

What do you mean by "struggling?"

I hardly think a campus would be open for expansion if greek life were struggling.

Could you explain, please?

If this was the truth, I doubt that the campus would be expanding, and I doubt that 4 different organizations would have presented there.

My guess is struggling = they don't have mansions and 526598 Lily dresses and 400 people in their chapters.

agzg 04-10-2011 03:00 PM

Oh, right, that.

Last time I checked "most" students at any campus aren't involved in Greek life. There is, however, enough interest in Greek life to warrant a stacked expansion. Not bad if you ask me.

sororitymom222 04-11-2011 07:49 PM

they are losing a frat this semester, lost another last year, one that colonized last year not going to be chartered....economy hurting the recruitment efforts....don't know why the decided to expand at this time

agzg 04-11-2011 07:51 PM

Fraternity =/= sorority. If the sororities are doing well that's all that matters. Particularly if 4 organizations presented.

Benzgirl 04-11-2011 08:02 PM

Debbie Downer needs to be mindful of what is happening at other campuses throughout the country. Sororities are taking record numbers in their pledge classes.

What agzg said.

And there are still 16 Greek organizations on campus. I don't really think that Greek Life there is "struggling"... at least not to the extent where I'd feel the need to mention it in a thread where AGDs are expressing their excitement about their newest colony.

AlwaysSAI 04-12-2011 08:54 PM

And, let's get back to celebrating the news of the thread.....

YAY ALPHA GAM!!!!

:)

ps: I know ya'll have missed me. :p

Benzgirl 04-12-2011 10:14 PM

^^^Yes, where have you been?

AGDLynn 04-13-2011 09:18 PM

Yea, I've asked to be a Pearl Sister and hope hope to go to Initiation. That would be soo cool! :D

ColdInCanada11 04-13-2011 09:26 PM

AGDLynn, do you need to live anywhere specifically to be a Pearl Sister for a colony? I'm most likely going to be in Europe for grad school, and I'm just wondering if it's possible in the future

OMG, I've just been really busy plus a lot going on at work. By the time I get home, I hardly touch my computer.

Got a new boyfriend....who's a prince in his own right. He's a Kappa Delta Rho from RIT (Iota Beta Chapter). We've been together for about.....5 months. We're having a romantic weekend get away in the mountains next weekend.

And, of course I've been working like crazy for SAI. Our Alumnae Interest Group now has 10 active members--we need 15 to charter. I'm about to start my 2nd year as their secretary. And, I was appointed to serve on the national yearbook directory committee--so that's a biggie. I was appointed to do work for HQ--how awesome.

Oh, but, I've just been selected as the Vice President for the GRAC of AGD. Woop!! I was surprised that the nominating committee even thought of me for the position. I've only been an AGD for like 16 months. IRD is this Saturday and then I'll be installed in May.

My sister also finishes graduate school in May. She's currently going on interviews for RD positions.

Wow. That was a lot. I guess I should have posted it in the AGD Random thread. My bad.

I've been VP for 2 years. Since I travel so much on business, I couldn't assume the President roll. Just no time. Installation is in May...at my house.

It's not unusual to walk into your first meeting and walk out as President. It happened to one lady a few years ago. We were so sad when she moved.

AGDLynn 04-14-2011 08:59 PM

Cold

No, you don't have to live in a specific place. My 1st Pearl collegiate was at Arizona State and the 2nd was at Syracuse.

I'll send you some info.

AlphaGamGirl13 04-19-2011 01:23 AM

I'm graduating from Lambuth University in June, and my poor school is shutting down due to financial problems at the end of June. I may be going to grad school in Nashville, and if I do, I would love to become involved with the chapters at either Belmont or APSU!

AlwaysSAI 07-05-2011 09:34 PM

I may be late to the news, but I found out recently that AGD is colonizing at the University of South Carolina in fall 2012!

Oh, and did I mention that my sister's new job is on that very campus. I plan on being a pearl sister. She's already been asked to serve as an adviser to the colony's EC, but may have to turn it down because she's just been asked to take over the President position for the area Alumnae Club.

AGDLynn 07-05-2011 09:44 PM

Wowow!!! Cool!

Yea, I've put my name on that Pearl Sister list too!

Wish Clemson chapter would come back since I probably would have gone there if I had stayed in SC because it was only about 10 miles from my house (moved to GA when I was 4 1/2.)

AlwaysSAI 07-06-2011 06:54 PM

^^^I want to be a pearl sister! How do I get my name on the list?

I never get any AGD emails from HQ, but I checked the member services page and my email addy is up to date.

AGDLynn 07-07-2011 06:10 PM

Pearl sisters

sending you pm

AGD-ThetaPsi 02-12-2012 06:54 PM

So I know this is late but i would like to say i am a member of the Theta Psi Chapter here at Austin Peay and that our chapter is striving and succeeding in every way possible. Our chapter gpa is high, our members are amazing and we just completed our first recruitment and we found amazing women. Without mentioning a name but to the person who wrote the post that said how greek life is not succeeding at apsu you are sadly mistaken. Yes we have lost a fraternity but they are returning in the fall. Also the fraternity who started a year ago was chartered this semester.Being a founding member in this chapter i personally have to say my pearl sister (who lives in seattle) is amazing. With the new members this semester i became a sister-mother and i absolutely love it. also on top of that i am the philanthropy coordinator and so on my final note Alpha Gamma Delta-Theta Psi Chapter is growing and succeeding and doing absolutely fantastic at Austin Peay!
Alpha Gamma Delta- Theta Psi :)

Welcome welcome and hooray for Theta Psi!

I was lucky enough to have one of your chapter sisters for a Pearl Sister and I must say...she and I have become close thanks to Facebook. Can't wait to see more of Theta Psi!

I'm a little late to the party here but *BEYOND* super stoked to finally see a chapter at APSU. I initiated at Bowling Green State University - Alpha Kappa but transferred to the Peay my sophomore year. While I was a sister without a chapter for the rest of my undergrad years, the other sororities and fraternities welcomed me with open arms and I got involved in quite a bit of their activities and other groups on campus, including Order of Omega. I'm really happy to hear the chapter is doing so well :)
