Rebecca Black It's Friday

I know this girl has blown up the internet in the past week and I want to know what do you guys think about her song/video?
For those who don't know what I'm talking about here is the link to her video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD2LRROpph0

knight_shadow 03-15-2011 02:43 PM

GAH

I JUST got this goddamn song out of my head. Damn you!! Lol

Kappamd 03-15-2011 02:58 PM

I think it may be the worst song ever written.

agzg 03-15-2011 02:59 PM

Sounds fine for tweens but she's no Willow.

Wait. "We so excited?"

IS PROPER GRAMMAR NOT ENOUGH FOR KIDS THESE DAYS?!?!

Also, you can tell she sings while smiling to record, as well as to lip sync in videos. "FrIIIIIIIday" "lookin' foARWAARD to the weekend." Those are very unattractive sounds in the English language.

Interesting.

She's still no Willow. k_s, can you whip your scalp back and forth again?

cheerfulgreek 03-15-2011 03:21 PM

I don't know why, but when I first saw this thread, I read it as "it's black friday". I was like "huh?"

knight_shadow 03-15-2011 03:21 PM

I got too analytical with this song when I heard it last week.

- If there is one seat available in the car, why are you trying to decide which seat to choose?
- I don't think I ever went to house parties during the "bus riding" years.
- Who is that random ass rapper, and why is he at a HS party?
- Ditto on the "We so excited"

GAAAAAAH

@ agzg -- I'm whipping my scalp back and forth right now, mostly because I hopped up outta bed and turned my swag on.

KSig RC 03-15-2011 03:54 PM

Pretty sure the random "Fun/ fun/ fun" breakdown in the chorus is way worse than the grammar 'mistake'.

It's weird - the diction/syntax both sound like somebody's mom wrote it trying to sound like a 'hip kid', but the actual subject material is so retarded that the 13yo could have easily written it herself. The mind boggles.

Also the level of autotune used is mind-blowing - the kid doesn't even really have a singing voice. Was this a My Super Sweet 16 present or something? How did this get made?

PiKA2001 03-15-2011 04:03 PM

That was awkwardly funny. She looks like she's fighting constipation throughout the entire video.

BluPhire 03-15-2011 04:48 PM

Too much autotune.

Saw it on the news this morning.

ASTalumna06 03-15-2011 06:53 PM

Seriously, who thought this was a good idea?!

Words can't describe how incredibly horrible this is.

Yesterday was Thursday
Today it is Friday
We so excited
We gonna have a ball today
Tomorrow is Saturday
And Sunday comes afterwards

This reads like a children's book about the days of the week.

ColdInCanada11 03-15-2011 07:00 PM

If I had enough upper body strength, I would stab myself in the ear with a fork. It would be nice, because I couldn't hear this song over the blood pouring into my ears.

Sidenote: If this actually passes in the real world, maybe I should reconsider that whole poet career.

Bahahaha, I thought the same thing!

The lyrics reminded me of the randomness of LFO's Summer Girls, which I would rather listen to any day.

XAntoftheSkyX 03-15-2011 07:24 PM

Meanwhile, dozens of legitimate musicians and artists are being passed over because they use proper grammar and do not auto-tune their voices.

yeah, I mad.

ETA: The famous one-two GC Delta Chi punch!

Lady Pi 03-15-2011 07:27 PM

I feel so bad for this girl!! I would be embarrassed.

This video was made by a big company (Ark Music Factory) that makes music videos for kids and teenagers. Kind of like those booths in the mall way back when where you could tape yourself singing in front of a screen and then you would get a "music video" or cassette of yourself just for fun. She's not trying to be famous, her parents probably got her this as a birthday present.

What's scary is how much they probably spent on this!

HEY, you leave LFO out of this. New Kids on the Block DID have a bunch of hits.

pshsx1 03-15-2011 08:58 PM

My blog is coated in Rebecca Black right now and IDGAF. :D :D

GOD. Maybe Rebecca and LFO can collaborate.

DrPhil 03-15-2011 11:28 PM

I'm just glad that Rebecca Black isn't Black.

And I liked LFO. They probably knew their songs were dumb. They are what The Jersey Shore dudes would be if they had a singing group. R.I.P. Rich Cronin.

Don't be too hard on the nonBlack Rebecca Black. She's a kid and she's enjoying receiving notoriety for doing nothingness. Kids want to do nothingness.

I personally was chortling at the bus stop sign.

This girl probably has one of the worst voices ever. The "tomorrow is Saturday" part is hilarious though and everyone's going to be saying it - it's the new WINNING.

DEAR GOD IT'S SPREADING.

BabyPiNK_FL 03-16-2011 06:01 AM

Please tell me she's not really touring. She better not come by dadeland mall... they might run her out...

AlphaFrog 03-16-2011 11:43 AM

First I've heard of her, here.

I would say that she looks like a Drag Queen on her tour poster, except I don't want to insult Drag Queens.:(

ETA: Damn you guys, I just went and listened to it!! If my scissors had been within reach, I think I would have stabbed myself to make it stop. She makes Jessica Simpson seem like a Mozart level prodigy.

excelblue 03-16-2011 01:54 PM

First time I listened to it, I thought it was a parody or spoof of some sort, but when I realized that it was real, I had no words for how disappointed I am.

It seems like these days, becoming a famous performer is more sure than joining a Greek organization; here are the list of requirements:

1.) Look better than average.
2.) Know someone in the recording industry.
3.) Sing some catchy song written by someone already in the industry.
4.) Have enough thick skin to accept being ridiculed.

Just like with a bunch of architecture, I think this represents a shift of music from art into a product. Of course, good music will still exist, but in smaller numbers and only for those who really appreciate it.

33girl 03-16-2011 02:28 PM

Unfortunately, it looks like Rebecca Black is the shining star in the Ark Music Factory stable.

A former student of mine asked if she was singing "Fried egg, fried egg".

You have no idea how mad I am. LOL. I think it sounded like Dylan...until you listen to another of his hits. LOL.

It had me questioning my smarts and music savvy until it got to the friends and bus part. :o I was like "I don't think this is the original...but maybe it is...brainfart...."

LOL @ these 6 comments:
(1) omfg.it's just kind of funny how bob dylan can make this sound so deep, but of course rebecca black is a whole different story. omfg i still can't believe it...
(2) My weird Uncle Bill has a bootleg copy of Dylan doing a duet with Cher of this song at a 1970 concert in Pittsburgh. I'll have to ask him if he can dig it out of his attic.
(3) This song makes tugs on the heartstrings in a way no other song can. Personally, it was what my wife and I danced to at our wedding - our first dance.
It took on a whole new perspective in 82' when my wife died of an drug overdose. Dylan is pointing out how people feel invincable when they are on drugs (gotta have my cereal) and knock it back like nothing.
It is a true classic which will never be forgotten. Thank you Bob.
(4) You could at least TRY to make it sound even remotely like Bob Dylan. This sounds like it was made by someone that's never heard a Dylan song in their life. The guitar sounds like a Bon Jovi ballad.
(5) Bob Dylan is a lyrical genius! Rebecca Black made a pretty bad cover of this true classic.
(6) hahahaha some people in these comments are the dumbest fucking retards ever.

agzg 03-18-2011 07:58 AM

They're playing this song on the morning news right now. They put up on the traffic map "This Song = Awful."

SO WHY ARE YOU PLAYING IT?!

PiKA2001 03-18-2011 08:44 AM

This girl is claiming the negative publicity her "single" is getting is akin to being cyber-bullied. Bless her heart.

http://www.wtop.com/?nid=551&sid=2311660

knight_shadow 03-18-2011 10:17 AM

She was on GMA today. I guess all the major new sources wanted to wait until today to play her song.

She said that by being stuck in everyone's heads, the song has done its job.

GAH

Actually, depending on how far people go, it can become cyberbullying. Regardless of how much people hate this song and want to shout it from the roof tops, she is a child. If people start cyberly attacking her and contacting her to tell her she sucks, that is bullying just as it would be if they picked on her at school.

@knight_shadow: She's right. The fact that people are talking about her song and the song is stuck in some people's heads (I refused to listen to the entire song because I wasn't going to do that to myself--I listened to the "Bob Dylan" version twice, though) means that she has some notoriety.

LOL. I can think of 2 other nontalented people who have received notoriety for either parody or serious songs over the years:

She's a child who chose to put herself out there for the public to make a decision on, one way or the other. She should have realized criticism can come with that. If she doesn't want people contacting her directly, she needs to make herself less accessible. You don't get to have it both ways.

Criticism isn't the point. It's how far people go with the criticism either on the Internet or in person.

Still a child.

Her parents made the ultimate decision, though.

Also, 4chan has published information about her school, her school's calendar, and were talking about doing some kind of Operation Black Friday today.

That's what I'm saying. How did they get that info? Apparently her parents didn't impress upon her to keep it private. In this day and age, you have to assume that when you become ANY sort of public figure, anything that people can access, they will. If you don't want to put up with that, don't be a public figure.

Live by the internet, die by the internet. Sorry if that sounds harsh but it's the truth.

Anyway, this young lady is 13.

If people have an issue with her parents, take it to her parents. Leave this little girl alone. People, especially adults since I expect more from adults than from children, need to laugh at the song without turning everything into a batshit crazy spectacle.
