Special1920 11-15-2001 12:21 AM

I don't even want to get started on some of these names!

Her Dopenezzz 11-15-2001 04:53 PM

The most interesting I have heard on the outside is the name...Shaquantisha. But, the names some people have on GC are cute.

MSTISHA25 11-16-2001 11:41 AM

I think my name is unusual...it's Artisha and I've never heard it outside my family. I also have a cousin named Argentina....crazy, man!

SeriousSigma22 11-16-2001 09:22 PM

Sister Friends,

I have an African American student in my World History and Geography I course and her name is Sequinta Neville.

I have never heard that name before! And she'll let you know if you pronounce it wrong!

Serioussigma22:D

Shelacious 11-17-2001 03:17 PM

I've heard an...interesting...name for a baby girl...Cache Mone' (prononced Cash Monay)...

I also know a woman who is named after her mother Elaine...her name is Eniale (pronounced E-Nell).

Interesting Names

One of my friends new baby niece's name is Iamunique. I kid you not. When he told me last night I thought he was joking. I asked him how to spell it and he said just like u say it. I am Unique. I died laughing.

SeriousSigma22 11-19-2001 07:07 PM

Sister Friends!

Japera1920 11-23-2001 03:31 PM

My godchild has a very unique name. Her name is Nubia Freedom. I called her "Newbie". I just hope my baby is able to get a job.

kizzie22 11-23-2001 05:48 PM

pretty3grl 11-25-2001 11:41 PM

One of my sorors who is a teacher has a student named Shithead (pronounced Shy Thead). If I came across that on the first day while calling roll, I might end up getting fired!

LMAO!!!!! You have to be kidding!!!!! Please say you are kidding!!!!

SeriousSigma22 11-26-2001 07:36 PM

Pretty3grl,

Ha! Ha! Ha! I can't stop laughing please parents, black folks stop the madness! Why in the world would a person emotionally damage a child by giving him/her a name like that?

Serioussigma22:eek:

pretty3grl 11-26-2001 08:03 PM

I wish that I could say that I was kidding, but I'm not!!! My soror says that he is not old enough yet to realize the fatal flaw with his name so when she asked him how to pronounce it, he did so without batting an eye. I just ask, didn't she have any friends or family to point this out to her? I know that she may have been out of it when she named him, but they do give you 2 weeks to change it. I think that the teachers at his school should pitch in for a name change (at least hyphenate and change the i to y (Shy-thead). Poor kid. He will definately have to grow up "hard".

bluz4 11-27-2001 04:51 PM

hey mstisha25. my LS's name is Artisha. I think that's a very nice name and hardly unusual. Another soror's friend named his daughter Imastar (i'm a star)

lilZetagirl 11-28-2001 01:42 AM

My sandZ works for an elementary school, and though this name isn't "unusual" i know this little boy gets jokes...she had a student named Austin Austin  ...first and last name...what his parents were thinking, i can't quiet say!

ladybug1116 11-28-2001 03:08 AM

I can't think of a name to add at the moment..although I know I've heard some odd ones..but this thread making me laugh out loud!:D

pretty3grl 11-28-2001 11:42 PM

lilZetagirl, that reminds me of a woman that I used to work with. Her maiden name was Thompson, and her married name was also Thompson. She now goes by Thompson-Thompson. She says that she wanted to keep her maiden name (WTF???). I told her that I understand women keeping their maiden name, but in her case, it was just, well, stupid.

Royalty 11-29-2001 12:59 PM

My mother would have named me Monte Valari if I had been a boy. Monte is from Monte Carlo which is the kind of car my parents owned. And Valari is from the Valari which is what my mom wanted to drive.

*Thanking God that I'm not a man*

But then the girl name they chose was "Tiffany."

DOVE1920 11-30-2001 01:17 PM

Me and my sister.

My sister's name is Sadikia. Pronounced=Sah-dah-kee-yah
My middle name is Ilham.

SigKapSweetie 11-30-2001 02:02 PM

Oh, lordy! My mother is an OB/GYN, and she has heard the most RIDICULOUS baby names... a patient once thanked my mom for naming her kids for her. My mom was confused, so the woman pointed to the hospital bracelets on the babies; one boy, one girl. My mom almost died laughing when she realized the woman was pointing at the sex of the babies; she thought the hospital had named her kids 'male' and 'female'; mallie and femallie!
She has also heard parents naming their kids things like 'Ovaria', 'Testicules' (hehehe), and 'Aharashakinta'. Why would you give a kid a name they (and everyone else!) can't spell?
I like my name; Dale is easy to spell and everyone can say it!;)
LOL, my roommate just read this and told me that she knows a woman who named her twins 'Lemongelo' and 'Orangelo', but spelled it 'Lemon-jello' and 'Orange-jello'. What was she thinking?!?!
This is a fun thread!

COURVOSSIER... (like the liquor). I'm not ever sure I'm spelling it right.

PrettyPetite 01-07-2002 05:22 PM

ok this thread is cracking me up!!!

some CRAZY names I've heard:

Nakashema
Orintheniqua (Or-in-the-NEE-kwa)

there was this man in my class back in 7th grade--his name was El. EL. WTF????? I remember our teacher asked him how to pronounce it, and he said El. (like the spanish word for the--el.)

I knew this girl when I lived in the dorms--her name was Khian. (pronounced Chi(like the greek letter)-Anne) I liked her name.

jojapeach 01-08-2002 04:11 PM

There is a young man walking around being called Chablis. That is the name his mama gave him, and his friends call his name like it's nothing. Why not go for Chardonnay (or however you spell it)? There has to be one.

As for me, my mom named me for her favorite TV show at the time. There were so many Danielles, Darnells, LaDelles, LaChelles, Michelles, and other 'ells' out there, she figured she would be unique. I'm Yarnell, but she named me for the pantomine show "Shields and Yarnell". Or maybe it's the other way, but I'm named for a clown! I don't have much room to talk about others, huh? :p At least it's decently interesting, and I have never met anyone else with my name.

One of my oldest friends has made a hobby out of collecting ghetto baby names. Every once in a while she sends me a list. Here are some from the Fayetteville (NC) Observer birth announcements page:

Rontri Daqaye (boy)
La'Keel Tarique (boy)
Javoris Wrayquan (boy)
Katriel Marquiez (boy)
Lexxus Aaliyah Marie (girl)
Ny'Ri Ne'Shell (girl - apparently her parents like apostrophes)
Destiny Channel (girl) - no, not Chanel. CHANNEL.
Traveon Lavaughney (boy - he won't learn to spell his name until he's 12 at that rate)
Aspen Carolina (girl - okay, it's not ghetto, but she's going to grow up to be a stripper)
TyQuan Nosaj (boy)
Sayvion Isaiah Jaheim

And the winner: The mom's name is Qwensheta. She named her daughter Ke'Avah Jah-Kiyya.

My people, my people.

I feel so bad for these children, and I don't even know them. Once again, I wish that people would think about the outside world, namely college and job applications.
Names such as this absoutely can be used by some jacked-up employer to discriminate. :(

Ok, who noticed that TyQuan's middle name is Jason spelled backwards?

Now if people would put that much thought into other aspects or their lives instead of saddling their kids with unpronounceable names, that the poor child needs a MBA to spell.
