Guilty Pleasures

Ok, this is one I posed to the girls on Hooties and we got some great answers.....time to admit your guilty pleasures. You know, those things you hold near and dear but are (understandably) a little bit embarrassed about? It could be that you love New Kids On The Block and think that N Sync is a cheap copy, it could be that you think Martha Stewart is really hot.....it could be lots of things.....lets hear it!!!!!!

Mine......Well, I LOVE (I mean really love) Barry Manilow. Now I'm old, but believe me that when I tell you the last time it was really cool to love Barry I was about 6. But I just love him.....I think his music is so great (maybe the childhood association, I don't know) and he is just so talented and I even think he is cute in a gawky nerdy guy sort of way.

I also am a big fan of (please don't laugh) Richard Dawson. I got really into watching Game Show Network and I love the old Match Game reruns. Richard was just so cute on there, with his little jokes and impressions. And of course I love the Feud.

I'll admit some more later. I want to hear yours!!!!!!!!:p

DGPhoney 11-13-2001 11:54 PM

this is such a cute topic!!!! Well you all know that I think Bob Barker from the Price is right is DA MAN. Seriously he's DA MAN! ok and this one you all can soo not laugh, or you can laugh and just tell me later you laughed :D I collect happy meal toys :P like if I get a happy meal ( yes I still get happy meals :p ) I throw a fit if they try to jipp me for my toy. Must be the big kid within ;)

I like pabst beer. Hardly anyone else does but I am not ashamed to admit it. Also, Jaggermeister is good straight. Not mixed with anything. Thats the stuff

PKTSU01 11-14-2001 12:55 AM

Alright, in no particular order.

Saturday morning cartoons followed by college Gameday on Espn while munchin on popcorn and Sunny D.and can't forget my 2 ft tall stuffed pooh. No B.S., had him since I was a kid and Syracuse football has gone 84-8in games I've wathced while the bear is there with me. And of course, video games.

TechAPhi 11-14-2001 01:05 AM

Guilty pleasures...

Mine all involve TV (my Mom wouldn't let me watch TV as a child, so I am making up for it now!):

World's Strongest Man Competition (usually on ESPN 2). Who can resist big burly men pulling busses and carrying huge anchors? Ha ha!
Spinal Tap, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and other 80s "classics"
Three's Company (YES!)
Days of Our Lives (I tape it every day)
xok85xo 11-14-2001 03:37 AM

Okay, I have a lot of these..mostly with tv/movies also

shows on the WB: 7th heaven, gilmore girls, dawson's creek, and felicity..I tape them every week...and watch them religiously

the food network..I love watching people cook, i don't know why, its just really relaxing

Fashion emergency on E!-I want to be on this show :)

Cheesy movies that no one else likes..Now that DVDs are pretty mainstream, videos are mad cheap..so I have a collection of pretty bad movies that no one else likes(who's that girl, grease2..which is one of my favorites!, book of love, etc..)

Anything 70's..Disco, Abba, Leif Garrett, The Jackson 5 etc..

The Brady Bunch- I'm a brady addict..its pretty sad..I can usually tell which episode it is within the first 5 minutes..I've read the book by barry williams..had the best of the brady bunch tape..which i listened to endlessly..so now I can sing along with all the songs on the singing episodes of the show..which I did the other day, and my friend looked at me like I was nuts :)
.. along the same lines..
The Partridge Family..not as bad as the brady bunch, but I love their music(yes i know, theydidn't really sing/play their own instruments except for david cassidy)..I actually just d/l'd some of their mp3s today..lol

NSync(I <heart> Justin)

Tom Jones

Beverly Hills, 90210- Like the brady bunch, I can usually tell you the entire plot synopsis of an episode based on the first 2 minutes..
Okay, I'm realizing how big of a dork I really am..lol..ohwell

justamom 11-14-2001 08:48 AM

I was really upset when the WB dropped Roswell. We don't get it's new station.

KillarneyRose 11-14-2001 10:45 AM

My biggest guilty pleasure has got to be GreekChat. Totally unproductive, but lots of fun :)

Ok, are we long lost soul mates? I am going to make you very jealous now.....I have MET Barry Williams!!!!! It was just a few weeks ago, before Halloween.....he was here for a WKDD radio disco Halloween party and he made a personal appearance in Kent!!!! He took my old beat up Brady book, gave me a brand new one and signed it!!!!!!! (But personally, I think Robert Reed is the hot one. I mean, I have had extremely erotic dreams about Mr. Brady!!!!! Too damn bad he was gay because if I could mail myself back to the 70s in a time capsule I'd be all over that!!!!)

Tom Jones ROCKS (I have his greatest hits)
I love the 70s....I loved them when I was growing up in them and I would love to BE grown up in them.

Dejajeva 11-14-2001 12:15 PM

Brady fans of the world unite!

I've read the book Bradymania enough to not only know all the eps w/in the first 5 minutes, but I also know the bloopers and secrets. I can also tell the season by hearing the theme song.

I'm sick.

I, too, have the "greatest hits" album and know it all. I made my boyfriend play it in the car the other day. He still loves me, though.

:D

IowaHawkeye 11-14-2001 12:26 PM

i still sleep with a blanky i had when i was a baby... it's like the size of a napkin now, but i love it!!!!

i'm obsessed with peanut butter chocolate ice cream with gummi bears - everyone thinks i'm wierd?

I have a soft spot for the 80's hairbands - Arya knows what i'm talking about ;) Guns N Roses, Poison, Bon Jovi - you know you all love them

A Baby Story/A Wedding story/A Makeover Story/A Dating story all on TLC - it's on from 9am - 3 pm here, and i have watched it all day - but only when i'm feeling really lazy and unproductive

I am a woman and hetero but I secretly want to be friends with Jennifer Anniston. I try to catch friends as much as I can and love her hair (when it is shoulder length NOT the "rachel" do) and love her figure and clothes.

I do not like Brad Pitt at all but think JA and i could be friends. She seems like such a down to earth person.

And, I don't think she is beautiful like some super models are. She has imperfect features but I like that about her. I think she is a down to earth normal looking person with a great bod.

I hope to be just like her when I grow up.

I really like her clothes probably the most.

valkyrie 11-14-2001 01:22 PM

Oh yes, I am all about Gilmore Girls, Dawson's Creek and Felicity, and Survivor, too. I get hell for liking P Diddy, too. I don't care how many people tell me, "But he just takes old songs and raps over them" -- I'm still shakin' my booty.

[edited because of course I meant to say "P Diddy" and not "Puff Daddy" the first time.]

lovelyivy84 11-14-2001 01:30 PM

I watch Smallville, and I like it, lol.

The guy on that show has knocked Justin out of my mind as cutest pop culture guy.

DeltaBetaBaby 11-14-2001 01:59 PM

Iron Chef, I am addicted. There is a marathon next Friday on the Food Network.

Me too! I like the Morimoto the best!

juniorgrrl 11-14-2001 02:23 PM

I'm also addicted to Gilmore Girls. It doesn't matter what is going on Tuesdays, I HAVE to watch the show.

Other guilty pleasures:

Wasting the afternoon reading magazines and drinking starbucks in the LSU Union Barnes and Noble

A Wedding Story

Dance Dance Revolution

Britney Spears' Music

Hello Kitty stuff

alphachiohmy 11-14-2001 02:34 PM

as far as television goes:

reruns of 90210 - courtesy of FX
real word reruns

anything 80s:

theres nothing like curling up and watching breakfast club or 16 candles, or blasting my cars or my police cds while driving on a nice day.

food/drink:

$12 bottles of wine, or sparkling champange
frozen snickers bars

shopping wise and the one I am most guilty off:
using any coupon for victoria secret, express, limited or bath and body works as an excuse to spend money

and as I recently discovered:
charging $300 on a credit card to fly half-way across the U.S. to see the Grand Canyon

James 11-14-2001 02:42 PM

Would enjoying some serious sex play in relatively public places, like between the stacks in the school library with atractive members of the opposite sex, count as a guilty pleasure?

I am not saying I do this, I am just asking if it would qualify;). 'Cause it is not soemething I would casually bring up at your parents dinner table:eek: .

Can I get a ruling?

ladyj39 11-14-2001 03:06 PM

Here are some of my guilty pleasures:

* Dawson's Creek (Joey and Pacey!)
* Temptation Island (I know, I know...)
* A Wedding Story/ A Makeover Story on TLC
* Backstreet Boys (I've been to two concerts :p )
* General Hospital (I tape it everyday)
* WWF Wrestling (I tape Raw and Smackdown every week)

Okay, enough embarrassment! I swear I'm a 15 year old trapped in a 25 year old body!

justamom 11-14-2001 03:13 PM

James(Yawn) Been there-done that. C'mon guy...I KNOW you can be more creative than that!

AOPiLaLa 11-14-2001 03:20 PM

Okay, well I am OBSESSED with Rachel Ashwell's "Shabby Chic". I don't know if any of you get the Style Channel(I used to in DC but my crap ass cable down here does not let me!!) but it is on ALL THE TIME and I used to tape it. My house will someday be a Shabby Chic house. I also love decorating magazine and blueprints, though I can't draw a straight line to save my life!

GmuTeke 11-14-2001 03:23 PM

I love the movie The American President with Michael Douglas and Anette Benning, and watch it whenever it's on TV

Ps. James, those arent guilty pleasures, those are naughty pleasures.;)

James 11-14-2001 04:14 PM

Well, I could be (more creative). . . but this site is kind of PG-13 if you know what I mean;). And I would probably lose my moderator stats if I started sharing all my guilty pleasures . . .

Although . . .

It might be fun to trade, quid pro quo, on all the things we could say: "been there, done that, and got the t-shirt . . ." and see what matches up. But remember, your daughter might look at the site and you might have to look her in the face over dinner . . .

Siobhan 11-14-2001 05:39 PM

My guilty pleasures:

1) Disco/The 70's
2) NKOTB (for old times sake :))
3) 90210
4) XMen (loved it when Teletoon was recently showing re-runs)

justamom 11-14-2001 06:26 PM

I think about that quite often. KIDS! Always messing up a good time!

You know what? I bet we COULD go one on one. Lord knows WHAT tales would be told if we tossed Tom into the mix. I just KNOW Carnation is/was a "wild child" at heart!

KSigkid 11-14-2001 07:40 PM

Guilty pleasures, huh....

Well, there's King Cobra 40s....I'm always preaching to drink good beer, so any 40 that you can get for less than a dollar at some places must be a guilty pleasure....

Other than that, I'd have to say it's playing old school Nintendo games when I'm bored or should be studying. I have a PS2, so ideally I would be playing that....but old school Nintendo is just fun as hell. (and no, I'm not a complete nerd)

xok85xo 11-14-2001 07:52 PM

ohh..i forgot..another one:
magazines intended for girls slightly younger than myself...17, ym etc..I got a free subscription to YM last year, and my friends still make fun of me..cmon! It was free!

I am so with you on this one. Growing up, my parents would not buy my little brother and I a SNES or Sega, so we were forced to play NES. But let me tell you, I love going home now ten years later and playing Super Mario One - where you can get billions of extra lives and explore a never ending water world. Zelda, Arkanoid, Marble Madness, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Micky Mousecapade, Dragon Warrior - I could start a whole nother thread just on old Nintendo and go on and on ...

Thanks for bringing it up.

ErikaXO 11-14-2001 11:04 PM

James, James, James......naughty!!!! I would venture to say that nothing sexual can be considered a guilty pleasure (who's embarrassed to admit they love sex, not me!!!!) unless it is REALLY weird, like you enjoy dressing up like Shirley Temple, standing out on your front lawn, and singing "On The Good Ship Lollipop" while your girlfriend sucks on YOUR lollipop, if ya know what I mean.

I don't think this is such a bad idea!!!! James can start that thread, we'll call it "Truth or Dare!!!" It might get racy but hey, us deviants need to see we're in good company every once in awhile!!!!!!!!!!:D

Billy....I'm no Emeril....what the $%#@*& are lamb fries????

KABillyMac 11-15-2001 02:32 PM

Erica, lamb fries are sheep testicals, deep friend and usually served in cream gravy. Alot of times you dont actually get sheep testicals, sometimes its bull testicals. They just quarter them and butterfly em. Still usually served with cream gravy. Sounds disguisting, I know, but actually they are very, very good.
