Weird Website

http://deltazetahouse.com/

Is this for real??

AZTheta 02-08-2011 08:58 PM

Did a search on your official Delta Zeta website and the Maharishi University of Management is not listed as hosting a chapter.

Suggest you forward this link to your HQ; I'm sure they'll be interested in the content.

33girl 02-08-2011 09:00 PM

Yep. This is the kind of thing Cartman is referring to when he bitches about hippies.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parsons_College

Apparently Parsons closed and they sold the campus to the Maharishi. Craaaazeeee.

Tulip86 02-08-2011 09:01 PM

So they still use the name/symbols letters? Nasty...

AZTheta 02-08-2011 09:02 PM

33, does that mean that that is, in fact a DZ Chapter? huh.

There was, when it was Parsons.

Apparently they had AGD, A Xi D, AOII and SDT as well.

AZTheta 02-08-2011 09:06 PM

And now? is there an active chapter? I'd have guessed otherwise from the website presentation.

Tulip86 02-08-2011 09:09 PM

Not on the DZ website..

AOII Angel 02-08-2011 09:11 PM

Weird. I looks like you "Join" by renting a room in the house.

Xidelt 02-08-2011 11:14 PM

That's weird if that's the old DZ house. Parsons has been closed since 1973. I tend to think somebody at Yoga U. is ripping off a national cause they're too "enlightened" to come up with their own.

ree-Xi 02-09-2011 11:24 AM

yikes....

I guess they do consider themselves members. Click NEW SCI PRINCIPLES on the left nav bar to see how they've bastardized things.

Traditional Principles New SCI Points Most "normal" universities have sororities and fraternities. Delta Zeta sorority has 165 chapters nationwide, and had one at Parsons College in Fairfield until 1973, when the campus was sold to MIU. Maharishi University of Management offers all the features that other universities do, including the various academic disciplines, but adds the Science of Creative Intelligence (SCI) to the curriculum. This integrates the knowledge with knowledge of the self, as experienced during the Transcendental Meditation technique. The Delta Zeta chapter is being re-enlivened with these principles.
and

The Delta Zeta Creed is enlivened and extended through SCI. Through the regular practice of Transcendental Meditation, one feels as if "the world is my family" (Vasu Deva Bhatum Bhkum). As one grows to higher states of consciousness, the qualities grow: temperance, insight, and courage. Meditators seek the truth, and their life touches other lives. The qualities of understanding and appreciation grow along with the use of the full potential of the mind. Delta Zetas who are Sidhas walk in the light of enlightenment.

twinkle555 02-09-2011 07:42 PM

Uhhhh...WHAT THE FLUCK??

MysticCat 02-09-2011 07:53 PM

Words fail me.

SoProud2BeAnAlphaXi 02-09-2011 07:54 PM

Here's My Favorite

Traditional Principles:
In many sorority chapters, students stay up late to study for exams, or for other activities, getting them tired for classes.

New SCE Points:
Delta Zeta sisters generally go to bed by 10:00 pm, which allows them to wake up refreshed, and ready for their daily routine.

Also love that a key feature of the house is "Brondell Swash 800 high tech heated bidet"

I guess I'll be keeping my eye out for a "re-enlivened" Alpha Xi Delta chapter here, but happy to let Delta Zeta take the lead on this one!!

princessamy 02-09-2011 08:19 PM

not only did that website creep me out but so did that university. the poor kids looked brainwashed or something

KillarneyRose 02-09-2011 08:56 PM

I'm going to forward that link to Nationals; I'm sure there's some sort of copyright infringement going on there.

Alumiyum 02-09-2011 09:14 PM

Creepy to the nth power. But whatever makes you happy I guess.

You would think that they would at least have the brains to change up the crest enough to clear it.

There's an old ASA chapter that was originally one of the NY state regionals, then went ASA with the other chapters in that regional, then all the national charters in NY state got pulled. They never went back to the regional even though the other chapters did. They still use a LOT of ASA stuff, including the colors and the creed and call themselves ASA (then again, so do many Asian or African Students Associations). I think we've never gone after them since it really wasn't their fault that they left the national - it was a state enforced decision. I'm wondering if DZ kind of looks at this in the same way.

Denverfriend 02-10-2011 03:55 AM

WTF

Let us know what happens.

AGD1978 02-10-2011 11:23 AM

Just...wow. Twilight Zone.

amanda6035 02-10-2011 11:59 AM

I kinda feel sorry for these girls. You would think they would know if they weren't recognized nationally. I guess there's a possibility that they really don't know...but 30 years later?

princessamy 02-10-2011 12:16 PM

So I googled this college and people are saying that it is a cult and the students there are getting brainwashed. They have a strict dress code and you have to do their meditation program and it sees like they are creating their own "utopia" yet when you really look at it's freakishly messed up.

ThetaDancer 02-10-2011 01:12 PM

When I look at that site, there's all this stuff from Duke, too...is anyone else getting that? I think I clicked on something that said "provisional status" at the bottom of the page.

I first heard about this "college" a few years ago when there was a facebook virus going around. A lot of my friends' networks were changed to Maharashi U instead of whatever school they actually went to, and when you clicked on their profiles, you were redirected to the school's site.

That sounds really scary.

OnTheOtherHand 02-10-2011 05:29 PM

I used to go to a school like this (just got out of one and transferred to a REAL school). Many of the people at these schools have some seriously wacky beliefs about the mind that read a lot like brainwashing (a la Scientology, Dahn Yoga, etc).

33girl 02-10-2011 09:01 PM

I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the idea of this being in the middle of Iowa.

If you build it, they will come.

TriDeltaSallie 02-10-2011 11:15 PM

Um, wow.

KillarneyRose 02-20-2011 09:08 PM

Perversely, I'd love to know what their interpretation of our Crest and colors are.

Some highlights from the video:

In the bedroom: "your own baseboard heat."

In the dining area: "a large bulletin board."

The kitchen: "a lovely green color."

and...

"A stainless steel style refrigerator" that has "Large shelves for storing your food."

Sign me up!

Xidelt 10-08-2011 09:54 PM

I went to the website mentioned at the end of the video. The chapter website has a whole webpage devoted to the house's bidet. Beyond bizarre.

Yep. I saw that too. And, supposedly, there's a Theta Nu Xi chapter there......

Eq_Turtle 10-25-2011 04:25 PM

ok time out.. so these are just people that bought an old DZ house that existed on the previous school's campus and now that they live in they call themselves DZ's?? Or are they actually sisters? Are any of their greek org's official? I apologize for not following... I'm super confused.. and as most of you have said, I, too, am creeped out. Happy Halloween I guess hahah!

Eq_Turtle 10-26-2011 10:18 AM

As much as I'd like Alpha Gam's resolved chapters to reopen, this is one that can rest in peace.

I'd think that DZ national would file for 'unauthorized use of name' or some such. OTOH, I'm sure the national council is aware of this and figures they can put their operating funds to other (better) uses.

Mallory_Marye 11-15-2011 01:00 AM

I know this is an older thread, but was anything every done about this or found out about this chapter and what is going on?

Here is an update:

Looks like the national hq has things in hand!

It looks like DZ has purchased the domain names in question as well. :)
