For the most part, I prefer names that you can derive a nickname from. My name, Tracy, isn't like that and I've always hated it.

OK-Garrett is part of my family. How come there are TWO Garretts listed. Did I miss something that made them popular?

I like the names I chose, but if I had a bunch more-
Boys-Anything Irish-Patrick Michael James(Jimmy) Sean or upper crust sounding like GARRETT (LOL) or Burke another family name from my Seattle side.

Girls-Elizabeth, Michelle, Katherine, Julia, I also like Nichole (Nicki)

Betarulz! 11-13-2001 02:28 PM

Well this isn't something that a guy usually thinks about, but during my senior year in HS I had one class that kept getting stuck on this topic in conversation, so I have an idea.

Girls:
Penelope Melinda (Penny)
Anne Marissa
Breanna Kathryn (Bree)

Boys:
My first born son will have to have Edward in part of his name for sure as it's become a family name type of deal. That's really the only stipulation.

I had a friend who got really creative with names during that class and decided on these names:

Phoenix Danger or
Hercules Danger (obviously so that his son could say "Danger is my Middle name")

and if he had twin girls he wanted to name them Peaches and Pickles.
Kinda cruel but funny.

SigkapAlumWSU 11-13-2001 02:58 PM

Boys:
James Gregory
Russell James
James Edward
James David
James Alexander
James Duncan (Duncan from my fam..)
(if you can't tell, James is gonna be in there one way or another- Family Tradition on his side...)

Girls:
Elizabeth Anne
Pasha
Ashley Claire
Katherine Nicole

Hopefully I won't have to actually think of names for a couple more years!!

I've noticed alot of you are going the family name route...
I'd love to use Lily or Ruby as a middle name- or even Jesse. I've got two great grandfathers one on both sides named Jesse. For a boy probably..

There's another family name I loved but I can't remember it right now.
lol

Always,
Jess

A Word to the Wise...

Don't do what my parents did, name the first child "Tracy" and then when her sister is born 7 years later, name her "Casey". Sigh. We still don't know what they were smoking then they thought THAT one up!

RED HOT CHI-O-
I LOVE Beach Music!!! And Jordan Elliot--what a great name and a great character. You made me smile this morning!

greeklawgirl 11-14-2001 01:57 PM

I cried all through Beach Music. Certain portions of it--I'm sure you know which ones I'm talking about--were just too awful for words. But I agree, an incredible book...and a nice name too. :)

juniorgrrl 11-14-2001 02:33 PM

A note of caution...

When naming your children, name them something that others can pronounce. My name is Aimée, pronounced A-May (its french). Now, it might sound nice, but on the playground this is how it plays out: Me: "hi, I'm Aimée" Them: "huh?" Me: "Aimée" Them: "Amy?" Me: "yeah, fine, whatever" Plus, do you want to have the freak kid that has to get the blank license plate for their bike and use the stick on letters?

Now my list of names:
Girls:
Caroline Elisabeth
Madison
Sydney
I've always loved the name Lauren, but one of my cousins is already named that :(

Boys:
Robert Christopher (In the event that I marry my guy and we have a boy someday - my dad's name is Robert, his dad's is Christopher :))

There's a longstanding tradition of using family names for my family, so I guess I'll have to dig back and find some that aren't too french.

Dejajeva 11-14-2001 04:24 PM

i've seen Piper on a lot of lists...what a great name

I like odd names like sailor and hunter...

I also like gothic names, such as Winter or Gypsy.

Funny story, my real name is Shannon, but I always go by Shae (like the stadium, only spelled different.) My little brother's name is Alexander, but he only goes by Xander (like the character on Buffy.) So we both have pretty common names, but we came up with pretty unique nicknames. Here's my list:
Girls:
Kaitlyn (Kait)
Anastasia (Ann, after my favorite aunt)
Taryn

Boys:
Jackson (Jack, after my grandfather)
William (Liam)
Jonathan (Jon)
