Valentine's Day 2011 plans

Valentine's Day is two weeks away. Does anyone have any special plans with significant others, family, friends, etc?

We're spending Saturday, Sunday, and Monday night at Niagara Falls. I've never been during the winter months so I'm really excited.:)

^^ It's my turn to hate you. :p

No plans, usually me and my best friend always end up single on V-day so we'd spend it together but she now has a boyfriend so I guess I'm on my own this year.

We're going to be staying at the Fallsview Hotel, which sits right on the Falls, so I'll make sure I take plenty of pics to post.:):p

Yep. I'm hoping they'll allow pics inside the Ripley's Museum, too. There's just so much to do there.

Kappamd 02-01-2011 07:55 PM

I will be studying all weekend for the exam I have ON Valentine's Day. Exciting, I know.

Our 6-year dating anniversary is actually the 12th, so fiance is coming in this weekend and we're going out to dinner. We'll probably just chill the rest of the weekend.

Drolefille 02-01-2011 08:22 PM

Being really far away, working, and probably not sending cards/gifts unless I can successfully avoid the parents in the process.

lovespink88 02-01-2011 08:34 PM

Fiance and I are going to see Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles. It's part of Broadway in Chicago during the week leading up to Valentine's Day. I'M SO EXCITED! They're supposed to be really good :)

break 'em up! :p j/k

We've got no plans, we have a toddler and plans for these kinds of dates need to be made far in advance to ensure we can get a sitter. Guess it's just dinner and a movie at home or something.

Only if I could...he's not my cup of tea, but she needs to learn from her mistakes ;).

V-Day = me puking at all the mushy crap people post on FB.

knight_shadow 02-01-2011 08:55 PM

I am torn between going out with a friend and beating it like it owes me moneys (© Ant).

Decisions, decisions...

Tulip86 02-01-2011 09:06 PM

I have to work Valentine's day.. that's what happens if you work at a nice restaurant...

LucyKKG 02-01-2011 09:57 PM

I'm not sure what I'm doing, but it's a Monday. Eh. Anyway, bf says he wants to do something but we haven't decided on anything yet.

CG, be forewarned: it's gonna be FRELLING COLD. My husband and I spent the weekend at Niagara Falls one winter a couple of years back (IIRC, we stayed at the Embassy Suites Fallsview - we got a free upgrade to a reeeeeeeally sweet room on the top floor) but going outside required some serious bundling up. But we found plenty of things to do indoors ;)

DH and I have no plans yet for this year. I'm thinking that we may stay in and prepare and enjoy a nice romantic dinner, maybe on the preceding Saturday. With all the snow we've been getting, who knows - we may have no choice but to stay in!

Thanks aephi alum. Yep, we're staying at the Fallsview, too. Yeah, we talked about it being cold there, but we're gonna dress really warm. Last year, we went on a horse and carriage ride downtown Chicago, and it was pretty cold, but we were dressed warm and having such a great time, that the weather really didn't bother us. I'm sure Niagara Falls will be the same way. I hope, brrrr.:(

christiangirl 02-01-2011 10:45 PM

I have no clue--he's keeping it a surprise. :o

I'm super excited! He knows this is my first V-day with a man so he's planning something special. I found a great gift and the funniest card for him. It was really hard to find a card that wasn't all "I love you madly, can't live without you, blah blah blah" This day was definitely not made for people still early in relationships. :p

BraveMaroon 02-02-2011 12:42 AM

One of my BFFs got married on Valentine's Day- she and her fiance snuck off to the courthouse and made it official. Every year, they celebrate by throwing their annual Grill and Chill - he throws some brats and burgers on the fire, and we all bring sides and just have a fun, relaxed evening. I'm making a heart shaped fruit pizza to take.

I always bring candy to my (all-male) department because as the den mother, I have to keep up morale, one Conversation Heart at a time. Plus, they like the attention.

My husband and I will exchange cards, and that's that.

ADqtPiMel 02-02-2011 07:50 AM

We don't do Valentine's Day, but our 10-year dating anniversary is the following week...I suppose we should plan something for that!

DubaiSis 02-02-2011 08:00 AM

My husband will be in the "empty quarter" between the UAE and Saudi Arabia working on a hospital project, so I believe I'm going to have some of my girlfriends over whose husbands are also traveling - a frequent issue with the "trailing spouses."

Animate 02-02-2011 11:20 AM

I borderline loathe valentines day...

I have not plans as of yet and have to think of something.

sanjiyan69 02-02-2011 01:42 PM

We're not really doing anything. Wife has to teach swim lessons at night after getting out of her day job and I don't get out of work til 8pm.

Prolly just order some Chinese and call it a night.

Ditto ...

Either that, or avoiding the hell outta FB for 24 hours due to that very reason ...

LOL damn. Why? I love Valentine's Day. It's a special day, so I always start thinking about things to do 2 to 3 months ahead of time. Something really romantic. I'm one of those mushy, romantic type fellas.:D

You'd better start thinking of something pdq, man. LOL.

AlphaFrog 02-02-2011 03:19 PM

I have a go-see booked for the day after V-day where the client specified down to the quarter inch the measurements her model needs to have, and I (barely) have the perfect measurements...so definitely no special dinner is my future (unless salad is special ), and there best be no candy, or someone will be in trouble.

AlphaFrog, what do you do for a living?

PhoenixAzul 02-02-2011 04:12 PM

I'll be working during the day, and then I'll probably go to the gym or go running.

My husband is coming to visit on the 19th, so we'll celebrate sometime that week.

For a LIVING, I work for a plumbing contractor (accounting/office management). I've just recently started professionally acting/modeling, but it's still a side thing at this point.

sceniczip 02-02-2011 04:31 PM

I think we're going to have a nice dinner at home and just hang out. My Grandma's birthday is the 11th so we might be doing something on Saturday the 12th to celebrate that. I'm not much of a Valentine's Day person.

honeychile 02-02-2011 11:32 PM

Does getting your dog groomed count?

My only gripe is that its so commercial. I try to do special things throughout the year so it kind of makes it hard when Valentine's rolls around. Plus last year left a really bad taste in my mouth that still is lingering like that piece of lettuce in the back of your mouth that is wrapped around the tooth that is all the way in the back that you think you get and then it comes back to surprise you.

That and so many women seem to think its all about them for that day.

This will be my first Valentines with Mr. L.A., and I agree with you--most cards are written for people who have been together for a longgg time! :)

He enjoys when I cook for him, and asked me to make him prime rib, twice-baked potatoes, and asparagus! He's the best, so I am happy to oblige. Plus, he's going to pick up a dessert and a nice bottle of wine! ;)

Go with the funny cards, not the "You are the Light of My Life <paragraph of cursive text here>" but the slightly silly ones.

honeychile 02-03-2011 11:25 PM

FWIW @ the cards: When my guy & I were seriously having problems, I made a card with Pepe Le Pew on the front, and "Are you my Pepe Le Pew or just another skunk?" on the inside. To this day, he claims that's what made him straighten up and realize what he was about to lose.

I'm supposed to be getting together with a chick I used to nail. Supposedly, she's going out of town on business that week, so if we don't do something the weekend before, I'll probably just wig off and call it a night.

Last year I gave a naughty/funny one and I got a really romantic one. We both loved the ones we got :D

Is this a new term for "bopping the banana" or "punching the clown"?

http://lancemannion.typepad.com/phot...d_o_lennie.jpg

Lennie approves.
