If I remember right, there were about 5 Alpha Phi's in the Miss Ohio pageant last summer.

The first runner-up in the Miss Texas pageant is also a TCU student, as is the 3rd runner up. In addition, another contestant in the Top Ten was an incoming freshman at the time of the pageant. I think that 2 of the contestants are Chi-Os (including Miss Texas) and 2 are Pi Phis.

Story on all four contestants

For those who don't know, the Miss America Pageant will be held on January 15, 2011. Many Greekchatters will be online to cheer on various contestants and "discuss" clothing choices. The wearing of tiaras by GC viewers is optional.

You can go to The Miss America Video Contest to view the contestants and also vote. I have no idea how much the voting will enter into the final score.

See y'all Saturday night!

ETA: Good luck to all, but especially to ALL Greek contestants!

PeppyGPhiB 01-12-2011 05:48 PM

Not sure about any Gamma Phi Betas in the Miss America pageant this go-around, but I know Miss Kansas USA (who will compete in the Miss USA pageant in the spring) is one!

Miss NE WON! Apparently the youngest contestant ever; she is just 17!

honeychile 01-15-2011 11:27 PM

Granted, it's been a wild day for me, between the Steelers and now the paganet, but is anyone else here? What does anyone think of the yodeling puppets?

AGDLynn 01-15-2011 11:58 PM

Oh well.

OleMissGlitter 01-16-2011 12:05 AM

The puppets were interesting....the talent seemed lacking to me...the dresses were either a hit or a miss for me...Just read on Miss NE's blog that she graduated from high school in May 2010 and she deferred college until fall 2011.

Leslie Anne 01-16-2011 12:07 AM

The yodeling puppets freaked me out. She's definitely a talented ventriloquist but I'd rate the creepiness factor up there with clowns and snowmen.

honeychile 01-16-2011 12:11 AM

^^My thoughts exactly.

Was it Miss Kansas who won? If so, she was a Delta Gamma, wasn't she?

AOII Angel 01-16-2011 02:04 AM

No, Miss Nebraska won, and she hasn't gone to college yet.

PeppyGPhiB 01-16-2011 03:45 AM

I thought the puppets/singing was amazing, actually. Singing in three different voices, plus the puppetry skill? Yeah, I thought she was quite talented. I also thought her interview answer was good, and I was shocked she didn't win. I thought Nebraska's interview question was Meh ("When it comes to national security, the top priority is security...")

I liked the evening gowns for the most part. There weren't any that I hated. I LOVED Miss New York's - thought it was very sophisticated and made her look like a woman next to a bunch of young girls, frankly.

Talent was uneven. Loved the Irish dancing and Miss Arkansas' singing ventriloquism (however it's spelled), but thought Miss Delaware's dancing was pretty weak.

I also loved the DSW Miss America Collection ads.

SWTXBelle 01-16-2011 08:09 AM

I only saw swimsuit and part of evening gown - wish they wouldn't wear bikinis. I think they are just tacky. I never thought I'd get on the "do away with swimwear" wagon, but I now think they should.

And the music? I was lookin' for a pole on the stage.

If that doesn't make her someone's rush-crush or a top-choice PNM, I don't know what would. Good for her!

I wondered about Miss Pennsylvania. I'm trying to find out if she is Greek.

Fat chance of her going greek any time soon if she continues with her plans.

She's enrolled at Patrick Henry College in Virginia. Greek life is ZERO.

Oh, that sucks. I'm sure with someone who is clearly into community service (as all of those women are) and is very talented, she would have made a great addition to any of the 26 NPCs.

Not only that, but I can't imagine how PHC will regard a female who was on national television in a bikini. That school is extremely conservative and expects that "Students will dress modestly out of consideration for one another. Also, students will not dress in a way that will cause others to mistake them for a member of the other sex (e.g., 1 Tim 2:9; Deut 22:5)."

AOEforme 01-24-2011 03:42 PM

Sorry for the bump, but a classmate posted this article and it made me irate:

http://takimag.com/article/missor_mr_america

I can get thinking perhaps "Wow, she's not very feminine, is she?" but calling it an "objective example in the decline of American femininity" is just horrible. He goes so far as to mock her need for a wig.

I'm 99% sure the author wants women back in the kitchen, making him a sandwich.

agzg 01-24-2011 04:33 PM

What the hell is that entire site?

I have no idea.

Although, knowing the kid who posted it, I'm not shocked about the ideas on it. He had the nerve to tell me when I said I never wanted to be an OB/GYN that "it's the only field a (female) doctor like you can actually excel in, you know".

Wow. That's delightful.
