YEAH! Big snow in the South!
We have maybe 6 inches here and my children around the South are reporting the same. YEAH! Snow day! I'm about to go out and bomb some people with snowballs!:D:D:D
|
Yep, we got 4 inches here - with more coming down and a second storm expected tonight. With sleet.
And yet, the office is open. I'm one of three in my department who wandered in - the rest are working from home. What snow day? |
What? No fair. There is nothing outside my window but straight up ice. My car is frozen shut.
|
My office is closed for the day. Woohoo! I was surprised considering that they didn't close last year when that snow/ice storm came through. We may even be closed tomorrow too. I'm so excited. Now my pregnant butt can stay home in sweat pants and a sweat shirt instead of trying to find something to wear to work that actually still fits! :)
|
We've got a couple inches, and it's still coming down. It's just me (and the boss' son) in the office today.
My huband called to tell me that the kids wanted to play out in the snow...he wanted to know if he should let them. LOL. |
Problem with going INTO work is that you have to go OUT of work.
Be careful!! |

We got a lot of rain and a little bit of snow yesterday, so a lot of the roads are iced over here. One of my frat brothers lives in downtown Dallas and started posting pictures on t_witter of people getting in wrecks and sliding. That's one of the things I hate about living here -- no matter what the weather is like, people will still speed.
I didn't risk it. I'm working from home today. |
We are at 8 inches and it is still coming down. My husband has a job that he has to report for, so he left early this morning and just got home. He said the roads are far worse now than when he left at 6 this morning.
The kids played outside for awhile, but since they are 4 and 2, it was almost too deep for them. They just couldn't get good footing and the snow was too dry for snowmen or snowballs. So we are in by the fire, kids are napping, and hoping that it doesn't get too bad so that my husband can get back to work tomorrow. |
There are some serious college- and high school-boy snow battles out front, maybe our yard will be the only one without snow? But--they're not anywhere near the bottom of the snow yet.
|
I probably could have gotten away with not coming in to work today. We were given the option based on if we felt it was safe to drive. I had hubby bring me in, because I didnt want my stuff to pile up. Half the office is out today. Blegh.
|
No school for UGA! Woo! All the houses look so beautiful
|
We got about 8 inches in Oxford! Everything is closed today which is great! I love snow days! This is the most snow I've ever seen in MS. So pretty!
|
There's still absolutely no snow here...mostly just rain. I'm sure it'll turn to ice again tonight but right now I feel cheated because there's nothing to do until the game starts tonight even though I can drive since a lot of places are closed for the day.
|
None here either. I'd kill to be in Oxford or Starkville right now. All the pictures of the snow is making me jealous. We just got slush and it melted before any of us were awake. :(
|
They say that north Georgia is going to get more snow or freezing rain on top of this and school has been cancelled for tomorrow too. Oh well, as long as the electricity stays on!
The yard continues to be full of high schoolers and now they're calling my husband to come out and play (he teaches a lot of them). He, however, wants to watch some scientific show about Americans who've contracted parasites overseas. :( I'm snuggling in with a ton of books and some really good cocoa. :) |

Weather is weird. Usually y'all get snow and we get the ice or nothing!
|
I don't even like snow, but it would be way better than cold rain (and ice tonight I'm sure). Ice is just the worse...it isn't even fun to look at from the warm living room.
|
I'll take 4" of snow over freezing rain anyday. Have 4WD, will travel!

Here are some pics I took today on campus! I only made it to the sorority houses.

Thanks for the pics! :) I really love the DG house. It is what I really picture when I think sorority house. That is my one biggest downside of Penn State...lack of sorority houses. Not that I know where the money would come from or where the houses would even go (actually I do kind of have an idea for where) but if I were to get a chance to live an alternative experience for awhile, that would be something that would really interest me. |

I didn't even get to use my 4WD today. I never do. I just want to so I feel all badass. Instead I found out that even the one 24 hour restaurant we have in town closes at the first sign of ice (and btw there is still no ice, only rain) and I should have bought something besides bread and PB&J. |
My office is closed again. I'd be excited except I'm starting to get cabin fever. There are only so many movies my husband and me can watch or board games to play before you get a strong desire to see other signs of civilization.
|
If we had paid weather days, I would not be here right now.
If they try to pay any of my coworkers who didn't come in, I'll be POed...not that there is really a chance of that happening. Plus side to all of this is getting to wear my super-cute knee high CL by Laundry boots for a REASON. :) |
WOWWW! It's snowing again--hard!!!
|
I totally hate winter, so I've already been thinking ahead (way ahead) to where to retire where it would be milder than the northeast. Someplace in the deep south was on the list, but now even that can't be counted on. Sigh.

Even the cold snaps only last for a few days at most. We're supposed to get back into the 50s and 60s in the next week or so. |
So, the new governor doesn't close alll state agencies..says that it is up to the agency directors. Didn't hear from mine so I took the day off anyway. Major hwys to get there are closed so how was I supposed to get there??
Could be working at home but why? Nobody else is. |
Wow, what beautiful pictures! I especially love the one of the Chi Omega house.
I wish I had driven down Milledge to take some pictures of our houses, but I'm too chicken to drive in the snow/ice. :o On another note, the AOPi house in the first pic of it looks JUST like the one at UGA. Do they purposely make them look similar on each campus or is that just coincidence? |

And you know, you could *walk* down Milledge...classes are out today. |
Absolutely the prettiest house in the snow: the Tri Delt house at Arkansas!
Thank you for the snow pictures! |

Love the snowy sorority house pictures, OMG!
We've got 2-3" way up north in Ohio, school dismissed early, and it's already 50/50 for a cancellation tomorrow. Looks so pretty today, and I'm glad my southern friends get to experience what's pretty normal for us. Then again, I don't miss my Old Kentucky Home when there's weather like this! They simply can't deal with snow! |

So, cabin fever is setting in big time. My kids are just too young (4 and 2) to handle snow this deep, as they just keep falling over and getting frustrated. Since this happens about every 4 steps, and we don't have snow suits, they are wearing jeans and getting soaked.
We are stuck at home because we live at the top of a long and steep hill, which currently is a sheet of ice. My husband has managed to get to work each day by parking the 4WD at the entrance to our subdivision and walking to/from the house. I work hard to enjoy this time in my kids' lives, and not look forward to older ages, but it is verrrry hard to not be jealous of those moms who can just send their older kids out in the back yard to play. Here is our house: http://i363.photobucket.com/albums/o.../snowhouse.jpg |
Our older kids don't understand (not even our college kids) the concept of black ice. They don't believe that they would spin out, not them! Two have to cross the state to go back to school and we're trying to get them to wait until the weekend.
The snow, after melting a little and then refreezing, is hard and crunchy now so the kids can't play in it. We still have about a 4" cover. This is our third day out of school. The teachers are worried that this has killed the February break or part of spring break. Blondie, I hear you about trying to enjoy this time of your kids' lives and not wishing that they could just hurry through it. When I had 6 little girls under 6, I would occasionally be conflicted like that but older parents would repeat, "Little children, little problems. Bigger children, bigger problems." They were right, the problems are harder to deal with and/or solve as they get older! |
I had about 8 inches. Stuck at home for 2 days. Thankfully I was able to go to work this morning.
I will say that it was excellent snow for doing snowy fun in. |
My fiance's parents are in Georgia right now (flew in right before the storm hit) and are completely baffled by the situation down there. They live in the snowbelt of Ohio and are completely used to have 1-2 feet of snow from December through February. I've tried to explain to them that they just down have the snow removal capabilities that we do up here, but I'm pretty sure they just think the entire state of Georgia is insane, lol. They picked a bad week to head south.
