Wearing Letters (after resigning from sorority)

I just resigned from my sorority because of the abuse and hazing... I heard that you can still wear letters. Is this true?

knight_shadow 11-17-2010 06:58 PM

Why would you wear letters of an organization that you're no longer a part of?

madeline21 11-17-2010 07:10 PM

As far as I know if you drop a sorority/fraternity you can no longer wear anything affiliated with that organization.

SMTTT 11-17-2010 07:11 PM

I don't understand why you would want do if you left because of something as serious as hazing. Its like continuing to support the organization...

I don't know why you would want to wear letters from an organization that you disliked enough to drop out of. Technically, nobody is going to physically stop you, but to me that's just utterly tasteless.

NO. You should have returned all the letters to the chapter, or at the very least, sold them back.

And I agree - if you allege such terrible things about the sorority, why on earth would you want to give the impression that you're still a part of it by wearing letters or any other insignia?

kitty89 11-17-2010 10:26 PM

I don't want to support them, I can't stand them... I have a very warm jacket with letters so I'm just curious.

You know who else has warm jackets? Walmart.

DrPhil 11-17-2010 10:31 PM

That's even dumber than people who wear letters and say "I WAS one in college."

If you WERE one then why the hell are you wearing it? Find another raggedy old shirt to jog in.

Sell it back to the chapter. dumbass

IrishLake 11-18-2010 09:40 AM

That's like being an ethical vegetarian and wearing a leather jacket. Find a new coat, or find a way to take the letters off. Do not be surprised if you have your ass beat for perping the letters that no longer belong to you.

Ha. Cheers!

I loath perps. Can you tell?

Buy a new jacket. If they were really hazing you, that's a reflection on them and you shouldn't want to represent them. Wearing a jacket with letters DOES represent them. If there are a few members you liked, or pledge class members you think will stick it out, give your lettered items to them. That way they don't go to waste, and you aren't wearing letters you no longer have. Or sell them. Either way, pass them on to people who are actual members of the organization, distance yourself, and head to Target. They have cute warm jackets and pullovers at a good price.

No one is going to beat you to the ground and steal your jacket, but it's in bad taste.

AlphaFrog 11-18-2010 11:22 AM

I want to know where the OP "heard" it would be ok to continue wearing letters. I doubt another Greek would say that, and if it was a GDI, why the heck would you ask or accept their answer? Oh, that's right, because it's the one you wanted to hear.

"Hopefully" isn't the point. The point is that you all should stop speaking definitively on that. LOL.

StarryNightASA 11-18-2010 11:48 AM

No. Just no.

FleurGirl 11-20-2010 08:25 PM

I feel like someone has to call BS on this... I'm not usually the one to do it but... What actually happened? Somehow I feel like this "hazing" is a load of crapola.

serious question: so is it weird for people to wear their letters once they've graduated?? i mean, once you initiate (and not drop), aren't you part of that sorority/fraternity forever?

That has nothing to do with the discussion.

When Doves Cry 11-22-2010 09:50 PM

so other people are allowed to go off-topic, but i'm not? at least, it's related.

You can say whatever you want. I'm not the GC police. I was pointing out that the topic at hand is not the same as the topic that you brought up.

No, it's weird to say you "WERE" a member while wearing letters.
It makes sense to say you ARE a member while wearing letters.

When Doves Cry 11-22-2010 09:56 PM

who cares? people do it all the time. this thread is called "wearing letters".

knight_shadow 11-22-2010 09:57 PM

*facepalm*

Whatever. You got an answer.

no. explain it to me then.

i KNOW this was about somebody who dropped & wanted to know if they were allowed to still wear their ex-letters. someone else brought up the whole alums-wearing-letters thing. so i went off of it, even though it was said awhile ago. it's all related.

i've seen many other threads in which people go completely off-topic.
so i don't understand.

explain.

You kind of misunderstood what was being said, so see above for the clarification. Everything other than that is just wank.

Serious answer: It's a shame that you consider that a serious question. ;)

They're mad at you for ruining their thread where they show off how ghetto they are.

For someone who's been registered here since 2007, you should know non-IFC/NPC feelings about post-graduate involvement. It's been discussed many times throughout the years.

And just as you're able to post freely, I'm able to do so.

But, again, Drolefille answered you, so there's really no need to continue this back-and-forth.
