First glance/sight/blind date and/or internet turn offs

I searched on this, and I did see quite a few threads about this topic. Most of them had me ctfu, but this one is different. The other threads had a long laundry list of different turn offs. In this thread we post only one turn off. I'm not talking about turn offs you get when you talk to the person. Ex: "If he/she is not religious" "bad breath" etc. I'm talking more on the lines of when you first see someone, you might find that person attractive from the start, but there's one thing that stands out about that person that's so much of a turn off that you would not give that person the time of day. Or if it's a blind date, or someone you met on the internet, when you finally meet them in person, what would be the ONE (only one) turn off that would make you say, this is the first and last date etc?

Mine would be a man who wears really tight jeans. I don't care what his body looks like, how fine he is, if he's wearing tight jeans, owns a pair of tight jeans, "hayle to the naw", he has no chance.

You?

ETA: And nothing like "he/she stinks" because you have to be up on that person to smell them. This is first sight/one sight only.

Both of these compete for the #1 spot. But, if I had to choose, the teeth would do it.

I agree with the teeth. Other than that -- fingernails. If you can't keep them neat and clean, I can't take you seriously.

PeppyGPhiB 11-07-2010 02:58 AM

I just got married, but for me it was always the face in general. He had to have a cute face, cuz that's what I have to look at all the time.

If we have to get more specific, bad skin or screwed up teeth are bad for me.

PrettyBoy 11-07-2010 07:15 AM

Ugly feet.

Alumiyum 11-07-2010 10:28 AM

That "I'm God's gift to women" look/attitude. You can tell before you even talk to them, they think they're the shit. Shut. Down.

LikeASista 11-07-2010 12:18 PM

Dreadlocks!!!!!!!!! I just can't get into them, ... I'm sorry. It's so unhygienic in my opionion, ... but that's just MY opinion.

DSTRen13 11-07-2010 02:32 PM

Guys with all those super ridiculous bodybuilder muscles. That's icky looking, and it just screams overcompensating for something ...

Kappamd 11-07-2010 02:37 PM

Greasy, dirty hair. Nasty and it probably speaks to other hygiene problems.

nittanygirl 11-07-2010 02:37 PM

Co-sign on the bad teeth thing

or the grungy dirty greasy hair look. Get it through your heads kids, greasy ≠ emo

PiKA2001 11-07-2010 02:43 PM

Being overweight.

cheerfulgreek 11-07-2010 08:23 PM

There's too many to just limit it to just one, no fair.:(

Well, I don't like guys with tattoos, ear(s) or nose piercings. In fact, I don't like piercings anywhere on a guy's body, face etc. Since I can only choose one, I'll just group them all together and call it "body decorations". That's so unattractive.

Well, I'm probably the only person in the world who hates them, but I just can't get into the dreadlocks. And I don't mean "braids", which is altogether different. Dreadlocks, however, ...

victoriana 11-08-2010 01:01 AM

I would have do cosign on bad teeth and body decorations. Ew. Blech. No. Especially gauges... those just look stupid.

The big one is a guy who looks like he hasn't showered. A grungy guy, no matter how attractive, is just a major no go.

You can be as "not" into them as you like without saying calling them unhygienic. I'm pretty sure you just offended at least 2 very well-groomed people. ;)

ETA: Alright, y'all, I'm assuming you bathe. Don't make a liar out of me today.

Oooooops ... :o I didn't mean to offend anyone intentionally. I guess that term was a bit unfair, huh? Didn't mean to sound so opinionated.

I'm late but...ditto to what they said.

So, let me chime in by saying....

WEAVES

and it's funny because I have met some women over the years who said that they don't like dredds but yet and still they got that yucky yaki glued to their scalps.

So hey...you do you.

And as far as "unhygienic"...it's HAIR...it has to be washed just like any other hair...what's even more unhygienic is watching the weavalong sistas that haven't done anything to their heads in about a month and if you brush their scalp the wrong way it's like watching a sandstorm in their scalp.

So i have to take a slight offense to having locs being called unhygienic

IrishLake 11-08-2010 12:45 PM

(I've always kinda thought well-kept dreads are sexy... I've seen plenty of nasty, greasey hair that wasn't in dreads. I think it just depends on the person).

I wanted to add that a unibrow is second on my list. It is perfectly acceptable for a man to get his shit waxed, or plucked at least.

Sorry about that ... :o Apparently, I used the wrong term, but I've met alot of people with them, and I just don't find them attractive at all. One reason for that is because it seems like it's difficult for the hair follicles to really breathe in that, ... uh, ... well, ... in that condition. Maybe I'm just too old school, but I don't particularly like them. And that's just me, ... so don't take offense. (I didn't get offended by the "overweight" comment somebody made earlier ... it's their personal preference, and they don't have to make apologies for it.)

I feel you about the weaves, though. LMAO!! I don't wear weaves for the same reason, ... it seems that it would be difficult to really penetrate the scalp for a good washing (I assume, at least). Some people wear weave that is glued, others wear weave that is sewn in. Either way, I would imagine it would be difficult. But that's just me ... ;)

Lol PrettyBoy, I'm talking about when you first see her, what is the first thing you notice that would turn you off? If she's wearing shoes that cover her entire foot, you wouldn't be able to know what her feet look like.

Well, locs breathe quite well in its "condition", as you would call it. Again, it's just HAIR. Now saying it's unattractive is a far cry from saying it's not clean especially when basing it on an opinion.

If I an get paid for the amount of times people who asked me how do I wash my hair, I would be RICH...my usual reply is "how do you wash yours?"

And no...it's not difficult to penetrate at all and speaking for myself, I deep scrub my scalp at least twice before I even think about drying it. My wife is about the same...but it does take a bit longer to dry especially in the winter time. The best part of washing, especially on weekends during the summer if I am going to be out and about, is to wash it early in the morning with a peppermint shampoo and let it air dry.

Right. I think we know she didn't mean any harm by it. She corrected herself and apologized.

Y'all are ripping her a new one lol

DaemonSeid 11-08-2010 04:07 PM

Understood but it bears repeating because people tend to think that it is unnatural for hair to be in this "condition".

laylo 11-08-2010 06:25 PM

I find locks SO attractive that I actually try to avoid them...because I can't stand the disillusionment when the guy cuts his hair and is only about half as attractive as he was before!

Anyway, back to the thread....

BAD GRAMMAR.

And the shocking number of men who say that they don't like to read. Yuck.

DrPhil 11-08-2010 06:32 PM

LOL. Why in the hell is she explaining and apologizing to you all? She should've said "those of who this applies to, be offended." LOL. If she thinks dreads are dirty, that's her opinion and she's not the only person who feels that way.

I love dreads and that's because the men and women I know who have them are big on maintenance and overall cleanliness. Their dreads look good and smell good. Some men look better with dreads and would look average if not below average without them.

However, I also knew people who had dreds for a different purpose and believed that dred maintenance was contrary to the purpose of dreds so their dreds were very dirty. Even if their ass was clean, their dreds were not.

Which gets me to the topic of white folks with dreds. Why some white folks get dreds aside (such as those at my school who came back from Spring Break with a dark tan, some dreds or cornrows and beads, and Bob Marley shirts ()), different hair types call for different things. There are whites and others with generally thinner hair textures who get dreds and don't do the proper cleaning and maintenance from fear that they will "wash the dreds out." I saw a handsome white man with some dreds one day. I wanted to put him in my back pocket because he really looked like a white Bob Marley. But I looked closely at his dreds and said "gross, nevermind. Dirty."

With that said, I prefer a bald chocolate man and have chosen accordingly. :) That's my ultimate turn on. I have dated a man with dreds years ago or admired them as they pon da river at Reggae clubs. :p Never cornrows or other types of braids, though. Sorry, no thanks.

Well I'll defend you.

My wife is a contradiction. She loves her locs but doesn't want me to have any. LOL

It's just you having to get pass your personal opinion to truly understand, but they are your personal opinion, and you should not feel bad that as you stated, to you it looks unkept.

Exactly.

Now you need to tell us why your wife doesn't want you to have them. :) Does she think you won't keep yours as well as she keeps hers? LOL.

Just to throw in my two cents: I met the most attractive black man I have ever seen today. He had dreads. :D

Sorry if my use of "black man" offended anyone. I just have different things I'm attracted to in white guys vs. black guys. Now I'm all worried about upsetting someone because someone just got torn a new one for saying they thought dreads were nasty.

Uhhhh...your "thinking out loud" about offending someone is more offensive (and annoying) than what you said.

I find nothing wrong with saying you saw the most attractive Black man because you're talking about your idea of attractiveness and you aren't saying that Black men are the least attractive men. :) Physical attractiveness is influenced by all sorts of factors including the physical features that tend to be assigned to races and ethnicities.

I am now interested in the different things that you're attracted to for white guys vs. Black guys. That's a fun topic that really makes sense when we look at what attraction is about.

Ok, I have to agree with you on this about white people and dreds.. (As a white person...with a lot of hippie friends...three of which have tried very hard to pull off dreds). None of these "hippies" have had clean dreds, and the excuse is always the whole "But I'll wash them out" thing. Ok...then find a different hairstyle.
