It's Holloween weekend so, I thought this would be a fun thread. So, what horror film really scared you?

I'm still gonna have to say Paranormal Activity. The first one.:)

Tulip86 10-29-2010 07:39 PM

Saw IT when I was 6 (have an older sister who was watching it) and have avoided scary movies ever since.

And clows freak me out as well now

Alumiyum 10-29-2010 07:50 PM

Saw Paranormal Activity the other night, finally gave in. My boyfriend has been trying to get me to see it forever. I'll admit it scared me, but I guess because of the hype I was expecting it to be worse than it was. I don't intend to see the second one, though, because everyone has said it's scarier than the first.

I swear I couldn't finish The Exorcist. I know it's shoddy special effects, old, and a little campy, but it's scarier than any new horror movie I've seen. Or maybe just more disturbing.

I'm great with blood, body parts, axe murderers, no problem. I'm not squeamish. But for whatever reason, ghosts and demons...can. not. handle. that. I've been that person that couldn't sleep for 2 weeks after seeing Emily Rose. I'm willing to bet my sleepless nights from Paranormal Activity aren't over either.

dreamseeker 10-29-2010 08:49 PM

-the ring, 1 and 2
-texas chainsaw massacre
-some movie with 12 or 13 ghosts in a house

i'm a HUGE wuss. there's one movie that's NOT a horror movie (and doesn't have clowns) that scared me, but i don't feel like getting laughed at tonight :o

Tulip86 10-29-2010 09:01 PM

I'm a wuss as well, don't watch horror movies, even Discovery Channel shows on hauntings freak me out.
Love medical and forensic things though... just the paranormal stuff freaks me out

Kappamd 10-29-2010 09:53 PM

Children of the Corn. Holy. Crap. SCARY!

moe.ron 10-29-2010 11:05 PM

IT, still very uncomfortable around clowns.

carnation 10-29-2010 11:14 PM

House of Wax--the original version. I had nightmares for months.

KSUViolet06 10-30-2010 12:02 AM

I cannot handle anything scary.

My bf recently convinced me to rent/watch The Strangers.

I was terrified of answering the doorbell for weeks.

thetaj 10-30-2010 12:17 AM

I saw Psycho in middle school with my best friend. For weeks after that I locked every door that I could before I showered. Turns out she did just the opposite and put up a clear shower curtain and made sure she had a way out at all times just in case :p

PLEASE tell me what it is! :)

I love horror movies. I have taken to international horror movies these days, and I recently saw the original (Spanish) version of Quarantine called REC.

Parts of it actually really scared me!

I don't get "scared" from movies and have nightmares for weeks, but The Strangers was one of the creepiest/most suspenseful movies I've watched. In a lot of scary movies, you can pretty much guess when people are going to jump out or when someone is going to be killed, but in this one, you couldn't. My heart was racing the whole time.

honeychile 10-30-2010 09:10 PM

This comes up every year, and I say the same thing: The original version of Last House of the Left. I honestly cannot begin to imagine a worse movie, an d I've been told that the new version is nothing in comparison.

Like Jen, I can handle true crime in all forms, but just can't handle horror movies.

Drolefille 10-30-2010 09:19 PM

100 Horror Movie Spoilers in 5 minutes..

Adding to Netflix queue.

FSUZeta 10-31-2010 08:55 AM

psycho and the shining. absolutely terrifying!

AZTheta 10-31-2010 08:59 AM

I'm with KSUViolet06 - can't handle scary movies. I was terrified by the original Night of the Living Dead (isn't it in black and white?). I still can't watch it. What was the movie with the blind woman... the one where... nevermind. Just can't do scary. *shudders*

AnchorAlum 10-31-2010 07:04 PM

Anyone watching that series on TV tonite - Walking Dead or something? In the time slot that Mad Men was in?

Looks a weeeee bit scary.

IrishLake 10-31-2010 07:12 PM

The Ring scared the shit out of me. So did Blair Witch, but that's just because I hike in the woods a lot.

Splash 10-31-2010 11:37 PM

The Hills Have Eyes (new one). hands down

I love scary movies and see a ton of them and this movie truly disturbed/affected me

PrettyBoy 11-01-2010 01:00 AM

Jaws. I won't swim in salt water to this very day.
Wrong Turn scared me too.

Child's Play + Leprechaun = the reasons I stayed awake half my childhood

As for adult horrors, Dawn of the Dead was lame in plot but kept me awake a few nights.

I wasn't afraid of Scream, but the way the killer moves with the crazy slashing movements still creeps me out. I HATE it when people dress like him/her for Halloween. No one did this year, thank God.

CarolinaPhi 11-01-2010 08:10 PM

I thought Paranormal Activity 2 was much scarier (and better) than the first one! Probably one of the scariest movies I've seen in years and I watch horror movies all the time. The whole demon thing just realllly gets to me. I like psychological horror movies, not gory ones.
I thought The Strangers was pretty good, I just hate the ending. And I've been wanting to see Last House on the Left for a while!

..and AnchorAlum, I watched that show last night. It was okay, I'll probably watch it again when it comes on.

I thought the first one was scarier. I was thinking that I would've thought the second was scarier if I didn't see the first one. I slept over a friend's house the night I saw the first one. We saw it together and she asked me to stay over because she was afraid too. We slept with the lights on. lol :p

I've told this before -- I love scary movies, but only one movie has truly scared (or disturbed?) me to the core: Blue Velvet. I was away for work and watched it in the hotel room. Could not get to sleep for hours and hours afterward. A few days later I was back home and walking into Wal-Mart. As I walked in, the music system started playing Bobby Vinton's "Blue Velvet." I turned around and walked out.

I've tried to figure out why it scared me so badly. I love David Lynch's stuff. Maybe it was the being in a hotel room part. Maybe it was the fact that in real life, I was familiar with where it was filmed, so it seemed more "real." Maybe it was just crazy Dennis Hopper. But whatever it was, I still get a little creeped out when I hear "Blue Velvet."

cheerfulgreek 11-02-2010 12:12 PM

^^^If it's that scary, that sounds like something I would like to see.:)

knight_shadow 11-02-2010 12:18 PM

I was a horror movie buff when I was younger, so movies don't scare me. I've only been creeped out by 2 movies, and that was because of the circumstances surrounding them.

1. IT - I watched it when I was 6 or 7. I jumped a couple of times during the movie, but I got scared when I had to take my dog for a walk immediately after the movie. There were people outside playing hide and seek or something, so hearing/seeing them freaked me out.

2. Stigmata - I was watching this movie at home alone with the back window open. During one of the scenes, some of the lawn furniture started moving. I'm sure it was just the wind, but that creeped me the hell out

Aside from those 2, I love watching any type of horror/gore/thriller movie :)

cheerfulgreek 11-02-2010 12:25 PM

One time I was watching A&E, and they were talking about the "Black Dahlia". Not a movie (if there is one, I've never seen it) but when I read MC's "Blue Velvet" post, the "Black Dahlia" murder was the first thing I thought about. I was really creeped out about that.

It was made into a movie in 2006.

Just as I thought before I clicked on this thread, most GCers don't know real horror. GC is full of punks.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

:D

WOMP lol

I really laughed hard at this. You should see Saw 3D. If you like gore, you'll love this one. It has the best 3D effects I've seen in any 3D movie.

LOL. Hell yeah! Just like I'm freaked by the idea of ever seeing a grizzly face-to-face. I guess a grizzly chasing a moose is just a day in the life of knight_shadow. LOL.

Not to be confused with horror movies and being frightened by movies like Paranormal Activity. ;)

I actually watched parts of Saw 6 (?) at our regional conference this past weekend. I do not know why this film series is continuing. I won't pay money to see Saw 3D.
