Tips for rushing

So I'm going to be transfering to a university next year and I can't wait to rush! All of my friends have posted pictures of their rush experiences so far and its so tempting!

ANYHOO

I'm sure I've done bad by actually researching alot of sororities and getting attached to some when I shouldn't but I really want to find the right one. I know its all about 'how you feel' and 'being yourself' but are there any other tips on how to narrow it down? I'm sure I'll make the right decision in the end when I get to go through rush.

Another question. I've heard a few bad things about sororities and 'dirty rushing'. I've heard that its basically promising someone a bid but is there anything else that is considered dirty rushing?

Thanks =)
Holly

I wonder if you want to be an AChiO

They will help you narrow it down. You won't get asked back to some houses.

Here's a tip: Change your username to something that's not a sorority symbol.

Also, read these threads:

Your recruitment counselors will explain dirty rushing and help you recognize it. I wouldn't be too concerned about it, just aware. And there's nothing wrong with research! It's good to know the facts about different organizations you're hoping to join. But, make sure you keep an open mind during recruitment. And make the decision for yourself! Talk to your recruitment counselors about how you feel each day and they will help you. Good luck!

As others have mentioned, your user name is disrespectful and just plain ridiculous. You won't get much help here until you think about what you might have done wrong and change it.

thetaj 10-25-2010 10:11 PM

The best way to get pros, cons, experiences and memories about certain chapters is to ask the girls themselves during recruitment! :)

Blatant AXO love much?

Aside from all the overkill snark on this thread:rolleyes:, you really should:
1. Change your username. The fact is, most sororities won't see this as a compliment, but as a cocky move. And it won't help you.
2. Research is great! But keeps two things in mind. First, you have to keep an open mind. Chapters of each of our international/national organizations are all different. Second, a chapter might like the fact that you are interested enough to learn more about their national/international organization, but they might not like it if you go over board. Just don't go into stalker-dom.
3. Now isn't the time to worry about "dirty rushing". Your recruitment counselors will explain the rules to you at the beginning of recruitment.

Thing is, there really isn't any snark. Less than sunshine and rainbows honest answers, but no snark.

I have no problem with being obnoxious or even bitchy when called for and frequently am both of those things but sorry, no, I don't think it's funny when threads like this get slammed with sarcasm. It's not very welcoming. Why not just tell her what to stop doing and why?

Did you not read the posts before yours?

Yup, I did. Some people provided helpful information.

Why is it people pick the worst possible examples of threads when they start bitching about GC meanies?

Why didn't you just tell her what to stop doing and why without editorializing?

DrPhil 10-26-2010 08:59 PM

Editorializing always ends the same way on GC. LOL.

Because it makes her feel so much better about herself.

This picture reminds me of that Rainbow Brite horse from back in the day...

IrishLake 10-26-2010 09:37 PM

There are Rainbow Bright dolls and horses for sale in the toys stores right now. They are modernized and not as cool as the originals, but I still want one.

Because it is IMO unnecessary and makes "us" as Greeks look unwelcoming, so I comment on it. And I'm sure I will again. So in other words, because I want to.

Oh no, I get that you enjoy making an ass out of yourself. I just think you'd pick a thread where the OP was actually getting piled on instead of one with almost all helpful responses. Even the sarcastic ones were helpful here.

You pretty much telegraph yourself here, so yeah we know you pretty well.

You don't even live up to your own standards of just providing advice without commentary, so I hardly expect the rest of us to make the effort on your behalf.

Oh no honey, you can't go all pearl clutchy and then try to pretend we're in the ivory tower.

Bless your heart.

Who is we? I'm only talking about you.

I can get on my high horse at times. So do you. I just have no problem admitting it.

I really want people to understand what ivory tower means. It isn't just feeling as though you are better than and can judge others. It is being so far removed that you don't know what's happening "beneath you."

I did a LOT of research before I rushed too, and got really attached to one of the sororities on my campus. The thing is, how you judge chapters online (how good their website looks, how many members there are nationally, how much you like their colors, ect.) are not a good indication of whether or not that sorority is really right for you. You should let go of those prejudices before rush, they might dilute your intuition on whether or not you really fit with the girls in those houses, I know it did for me.
