Xi is not #2. Theta Xi would be NIC. And by the way, I wondered why we needed to know about The Taxis when I was in school.

Mu maybe? NPC has Phi Mu, but I can't think of any NIC.

Like DubaiSis said, there's Theta Xi in the NIC.

Phi Mu Delta is in the NIC.

Eta and Omicron?

There are SOOOOO many NIC fraternities that I feel justified in not knowing them all, especially when some only have 9 chapters! I think my campus had a very respectable 25 or so, but that's miles from the total number. I went to wikipedia and I was very surprised to see the note that Kappa Sigma and Phi Delta Theta are no longer NIC fraternities. Are they part of any conference?

They left the NIC about 8 years ago now. When they left the NIC, Kappa Sig, Phi Delt, Phi Sigma Kappa and maybe a few other fraternities (DKE?) formed the Fraternity Leadership Association as an alternative, but I think it has since dissolved. As far as I know, Kappa Sig and Phi Delt are not part of any inter/national conference or council at this point.

The NIC has a history of fraternities leaving, coming back, leaving, coming back, an so on.

On my campus, the 4-H house is a full member of the college panhellenic council (they had a house and everything), and their nickname is the Etas.

On the same topic, there is at least one letter that is used by both NPHC and NIC but not NPC

Why would you possibly think that? .... :p Yup. And actually k_Slut, now that I think of it, Iota doesn't count because the Iota Theta Phi is NIC as well. Only fraternity that doesn't over lap in the 2 orgs is Omega Psi Phi.

No, it's way more than that, in both # of orgs and total appearances (i.e. counting it twice for ASA, AKA, and APhiA).

When it comes to just appearances in names in general, Kappa is pretty up there as well I think.

There are 21 uses of Alpha in the NIC, plus 2 additional ones in the NPHC. That's 36 total.

Meanwhile, there are 31 uses of Phi in the NIC, plus another 1 in the NPHC and 8 more in the NPC. That's 40 total.

I could add at least one more use each of Phi and Alpha if we were going beyond the NIC, NPC and NPHC. ;)

Depends on whether you count # of orgs or number of appearances. Alpha appears 5 times in the NPHC, in the names of 3 orgs.

I was counting the number of appearances, but I should have said 2 additional in the NPHC. I'll correct that post.

Alpha Phi Alpha and Kappa Alpha Psi are also in the NIC, so they were included in the NIC count; that's why I said "additional" uses in the NPHC.

Yeah, I was thinking that Alpha, Sigma, and Phi would be the most common letters... Oh hey, Alpha Sigs. :P

I had to look them up because I'm in a NMGC org so I am not very familiar with NIC and NPC.
