NPC women - Do you wear "your colors" often?
I know that the ladies of several (if not all) of the Divine Nine sororities have threads here about clothing and accessories in their colors. I believe that I have seen some threads and discussions and have seen Latina/MC/Service sororities doing the same, but was wondering if there are a lot of NPC women who commonly wear their sorority colors on purpose.
I know that a lot of women include their color(s) into their wedding somehow, but as alumnae, living "every day life", do you go out of your way to wear your colors? Did the colors creep into your consciousness so that you actually have a lot of garments in one or more of your colors? |
I'm trained to notice red-buff-green now because it was so hard to find items that incorporated all three colors, but I don't exactly wear clothing with all three colors. It would be rare to find a piece that incorporated all three colors and didn't make you look like a clown. I do have a few casual bracelets with colors that I wear occasionally.

I have always loved turquoise, ever since I was a kid! So my wardrobe does have a lot of turquoise and not just because of ZTA. Although I do try to wear it on chapter days!

I will say all of my jerseys are red-buff-green. I never had one that wasn't in our colors. I forgot which company I got my favorite one from but they have a fabric with red yellow and green jerry-bears. It's my favorite jersey ever. |
I have always gravitated toward maroon and I love lavender but it washes me out.
I do tend to pick out flowers in both shades - in fact, I picked out a bunch at Trader Joe's yesterday and realized when I got them home that they'd look great at a Pref Party. :) |
I'll wear one color at a time, but that's because I look fabulous in red, yellow, or green. I don't wear buff (as you can guess, washes me right out and is hard to find a true buff color!).

H&M is selling Squirrel-pendant necklaces, and they are supercute! And 4$, your friend might just love that. http://i1034.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1282581102 (Owls seem to be very fashionable this season as well ;) ) /end hijack |

Thank God brown (and pink) have come into style. I love brown, and it's my new favorite neutral.
|
Since plaid and florals are both making a comeback, I've have noticed different sororities' color combinations in stores, both in the summer (pastels) and fall/winter. What's so great about the plaid is that you'll often find a rarer combination thanks the "crossing" of colors.
For you squirrels, I know for sure that I've seen non-Christmassy red/green plaid flannel shirts (if you're into that) in the past few weeks. I'll keep my eye out, and you SK girls, I definitely saw a plaid that had pretty close to your colors. You sometimes have to look in the men's department, but a size small fits me perfectly (perfect for layering). Seriously, check out JC Penny's men's section. Note that I am a New England girl, and flannel kind of never went out of style. I'm just so happy that plaid is back!! Quote:
I also love brown as a neutral. It looks much better near my face than black does, and I think looks great with neutrals, brights, and pastels. Black can be too striking against brights, and it reminds me of the color-block style of the early 90s. *Shudder* |
Im quite the opposite actually! Im not fond of red at all....actually I wear alot of black, grey, purple and navy lol
|
I wear a lot of different color combinations. My favorite is light blue and dark blue. It is more KKG but wearing yellow can be a little much sometimes. I also like to wear pink and green or purple and green (more SAE than sorority) I've done brown with green but no red. I just like colors. Although I only started to wear pink after I joined AXiD because of our flower.
|
I definitely wear a lot of red, yellow/gold and greens. Good that I am a "fall" person. Those are also my house decorating colors.
Even got hubby on squirrel lookouts, lol.;) |
I love black and gold jewelry, however I am not wild about that color combo for clothes. I do have one dress that is a black, yellow, and white print that I do wear from time to time. Beyond that I tend to let my jewelry declare my "Theta-ness."
|
I wear mostly neutrals with the occasional blue or purple, so yes, I do wear my colors every now and then.
|
I don't really wear a lot of blue and blue, but I usually giggle if I notice I'm wearing the colors of another sorority. Not many of my Kappa shirts are blue and blue, now that I think about it.
|
AOII is easy since we just have Cardinal. I'm actually wearing it today...with my badge! Anyway, I wear a lot of blue (it's my favorite color), and I've been known to wear ZTA's color combo on a regular basis. If anyone had Navy as a color, I'd be your perp since that's my most frequently worn color.:D
|
I don't wear a lot of scarlet and olive green together... for obvious reasons (Christmas tree, anyone?). But, i Have started wearing a LOT of scarlet red. Not because of my sorority membership, though- wearing red makes me feel courageous and powerful, which is something I needed a bit more of in my life.
|
I'm wearing green right now, and I often wear red, those colors flatter me much more than yellow. I think my skin is buff though ;) but I can wear cream no problem.
I have a red, green, yellow sip guard in my nalgene, which is also green. I have an afghan I knit in Alpha Gam colors my cats like to snuggle into. I have a lot of squirrel items, all over the house, and a vase of dried red and buff rose petals my cats are determined to destroy since the flowers are from my former fiance. I kept them for decor, not because they were from him. |

However, like you, I end up buying other things in the color combo without even thinking about it :D |
I'm not too big on maroon but purple is definitely the most dominant color in my wardrobe. I love every shade, and have since I was little. I even decided that I wanted to try eggplant and red cabbage as a child because they're purple. Lavender, eggplant, plum, orchid, royal, pinkish-purple, bluish-purple, dusty grayish purple, hot purple, everything. I also like to use shades of purple on my eyes, because they make my green eyes really pop. I know this Ravens fan that tries to tell me that I am a closet Ravens fan because I love purple. I don't wear purple on Sundays in the fall, however. :p
I do have a lavender tank that I wear with a maroon cardigan---trust me, the shades are such that they go---they were on display together at GAP. The maroon is slightly purplish. I also have a gray cardigan that I pair with different tank tops, including turquoise, and [I supposed you could call it] bordeaux. I am the queen of cardigans and tank tops, LOL. I also enjoy wearing pink and brown together. Green, too! My bathroom is painted bright turquoise and has silver (and black) accents. I'm sure the Zetas would love it. I am probably one of the few people that doesn't like blue. Except for a really intense cobalt. Love that. Maybe I would have learned to love it if I joined DG or ADPi, my other pref chapters. :) And of course, I have LOTS of black and gold! |
I used to wear a lot more azure blue than I do now. In fact, I had an azure blue & white dress that I would wear to alumnae functions. I dress more like a Phi Mu, I guess. With that in mind, I found my (azure blue & white) pledge shirt this past weekend!
|
Not really. My wardrobe tends toward black, dark blue, black, purple, black, maroon, black, red, and did I mention black? Green or white makes the occasional appearance, but that's about it.
|
I love green and white but I rarely, if ever, wear green. In fact, I can't think of a single green article of clothing in my closet. I do, however, tend to decorate with my sorority colors. Years ago I painted my house white with green shutters and I retiled my kitchen in white and green. I love the combo, just not in clothing.
|
I wear a lot of purple, but usually with grey or black (my favorite neutrals).
I have one of those Lands' End zip top totes in neutral with purple straps... it has my name embroidered on the side in purple. A Gamma Phi I used to work with called it my "president of sorority row" bag. |

I'm with you. It's jewelry for me too. A ring, or a bracelet, or my badge (either as a necklace or actually wearing it on my outfit). Have a darling kite necklace that I wear constantly. Very subtle. I can't wear yellow or gold. Clashes with my hair color and my skin tone. I'd feel like I was dressed for a costume party if I wore black and gold, honestly. Although that (black and gold) gives me an idea for a theme for a party... no. On second thought, no. |
I wear a decent amount of purple. In fact most of my tank tops/cute fall tops are in purple. However I also loved the color before I joined, so the fact that it was one of Sigma's colors made it that much better.
|
If I don't wear pink on a given day something's wrong. There is more of it than any other color in my closet (which is color coordinated so EVERYONE notices the huge pink section right away)! It was my favorite color before and remains my favorite color now. There's nothing more feminine and beautiful!
I am also one of those rare people that shies away from blue in any shade (except for jeans). |
Red is my favorite color and white is a basic, so yes. I don't wear yellow or green often, but I do have a few things.
My house on the other hand...the living room is yellow with white trim. I have reddish accessories and of course green plants. There are a few ladybugs strategically placed. Andy and I were just talking about this this past weekend. I was feeling a bit bad, because he is a little under-represented, but I don't like decorating with grey and skulls just wouldn't be our taste. |
I also tend to go for jewelry more than anything else. My staple go-to necklaces are both fleur de lis, and of course I love my badge(s). I also have a modest collectionof fleur de lis watch pins. I do wear blue but not necessarily in a Kappa way.
This should probably go on the "dumb reasons" thread, but one of the factors working against Kappa was the colors. My college was blue & white, most of Seattle's sports teams (Mariners & Seahawks) have blue... so pile on more blue. But whenever I see dark & light blue together I definitely scream KAPPA! in my head. Oh, my poor husband. For owls, I remember being excited about our wedding location because they had several owl statues. I also have several cute owl things from my travels- Argentina & Peru surprised me with how many interesting owl carvings etc they had. My favorites are some owl gourds- but I love gourds so that's not surprising. I brought back some owl gourds for my Kappa bridesmaids too :D |

I've even walked into Waldbaum's one time rocking a green cardigan and a customer stopped me to ask where the produce was. Clearly my top was too close in color to their uniforms. My living room is accented in green as well. But that's a total coincidence. |
I wear a ton of purple, mostly lavender. Maroon doesn't do great things to my skin tone so I tend to avoid it. My room is painted lavender, and all my sorority stuff (paddles, letters, etc) is proudly displayed. :)
|
I definitely don't wear blue and yellow together ever...And I don't wear blue and yellow more than any other colors, so I guess no. I would rather wear symbols than colors. Unfortunately, there's not many Quill inspired accessories, I'm not five so I can't wear something with teddy bears, and roses aren't unique to my GLO. I'm incredibly jealous of sororities that have popular symbol jewelry. I feel like I see so many anchors, keys and owls...and I always think "Oh that would be perfect for a DG, AST, Kappa, Chi O" etc...
|
The only red shades I have in my wardrobe are AOII related and usually only get worn for AOII events. I am so not a "red" person! I tend to wear the spectrum of pinks, with some chocolate brown and green scattered about the wardrobe.

And when shopping, I will usually give a blue and blue clothing item a second glance just because it is 'my' color combo. |
I occasionally wear the colors. However, my car (Civic) is burgundy. I have a license plate frame and a car magnet on the ride
DH has a burgundy Tundra. No, I didn't have a pull in the color choice. The midnight blue one he wanted was sold 15 minutes before he got there--he's still bitter about that! :) |
I wear a lot of red. Never yellow/buff. Seldom green.
The funny thing to me is that a good number of Alpha Gams I know decorate their houses in the colors. I don't even think it's intentional. I was amused when my decorator proposed paint colors: Red for the kitchen, a legitimate buff for my living area, and green for the master bedroom and bath. of course it's gorgeous! Oh - fun story about the colors: In the archive video created a few years ago, it is stated that the founders chose red, buff and green because they're such "practical colors." |
