What in the world was I thinking?

What are the biggest beauty mistakes that you've made? Things that you initially thought were good ideas, but then you look back on them and question your sanity.

I have a few

1. During my senior year of high school, I began dying my hair. First, light brown and then, bright red. The red dye starting washing out and lightening right after I had it applied. The combination of the two colors left a burnt orangy brown color on my hair. Here comes the mistake. The night before my debutante ball, I decided to get a weave. The only color that matched my "new" hair color was this bright orange shade of brown (#33 for those of you familiar with weave hair color). I didn't really think anything of it at the time. I was supposed to be getting twists in the front with long layers in the back. It probably would have been pretty if it was a normal color. But, because of the color, I came out looking like a bright orange poodle.

2. In Philly, every little nail salon has a lady who waxes eyebrows. I miss it now that I'm in Florida because everyone down here shaves them. Anyway, my normal lady was backed up and there was about an hour wait. I was going to get my senior picture taken so I decided to go to another nail salon. The lady there told me that my normal person was shaping my eyebrows wrong and that she was going to have to fix it if I wanted them to look good. Me, being sixteen, I told her to go ahead. Well, she shaped each eyebrow differently than the other. The right was much higher than the left one. In my pictures, I looked I was questioning the photographer the entire time.

No everyone in Florida doesn't......

neva again

Back in the day, I would only cut the front of my hair.

In 89 or 90, I cut my hair (front) with the Salt-n-Pepa stack style.

The chit wasn't even even. One side was longer, then the other side had like 2 steps in one.

LAWD! What was I thinking?

novella000 11-07-2001 08:38 PM

Awww heck

LMAO!!!

My biggest fashion faux pas back in the day:

1) BRIGHT RED LIPSTICK (you know you've done it). My skin color is about half-a-shade lighter than caramel... UGH... It was the time of year for Valentine's Day pictures at school. I wore some RED Cross-Color jeans with a white top, and white Nike's.

A HOT MESS.

2) Cutting my OWN HAIR in that Halle Berry style... ummm, I will leave it at that.

3) Wearing this coral dress to a Kappa Ball... HUUUUUUGE fauz pas. I tried it on in the store, it looked kinda funny, but it was a VERY pretty dress... I was going to get the black one, but "my girl" was like "NOOOOO, the coral one is straight!! I really like it, you will stand out!!!"

-- HOT FRIGGIN' MESS!!!

4) Prom day... I switched hair dressers at the last minute b/c my date changed our dinner time. Instead of telling his azz NO, I rushed around to get things done and begged my friend's hair dresser to see me. (I'd always admired her hair). I should've known better when we pulled up to this old mechanic's shop that looked like it had been condemmed. I wanted to imitate a spiral curl style that I'd seen my friend wear a few weeks before... FAUX PAS!! The hairdresser attempted to style it to my specifications to no avail citing that my "hair was too soft for large spiral curls" -- WTF ??!?!!! Long story short, she REWASHED AND STYLED MY HAIR WITH SMALLER ROLLERS AND BLACK GEL!! She told me that she was only putting a "little bit on the ends, to keep it from falling"... and that she was using smaller rollers b/c my "hair was so soft that the curls would hang a lot looser once unrolled." I believed her monkey ass... I looked like a fu**ing brillo pad by the head when I left there. I spent the next hour at home trying to loosen the curls up. Once again, to no avail. My hair had been fried into that "style" by then.
So I went to prom, looking a little better by the head... but not much.
-- A HOT RANCID MESS!!

I found out later that the spiral curls my friend had had in the weeks before were done by ANOTHER hairdresser at another shop!!!!!

LMAO at your stories. I feel so sorry for you, but thanks for making me laugh.

So many to choose from....

1st: When I was in high school, my best friend put me on to wearing eye liner. Since she was of a darker complexion, she could pull off the smoky black liner look. Big Mistake for a red boned lady like myself. I walked around lookin like a dadburned Racoon until.....this woman on the Metro said that I should try it another way. With my teenaged hot self, I knew she was wrong. Eventually, I began to take her advice. But not before my dad told me I look like the dog from Lil Rascal. The nickname Petey has stuck ever since. :P

2nd: I had my hair cut at an angle on one side. It was very very ugly in retrospect

More to come I'm sure :)

I know A LOT BETTER these days... and thankfully, I DO BETTER. ;)

Total Elegance 11-07-2001 09:26 PM

I wore mood lipstick. You remember the kind that was green but when you put it on your lips it turned red.

I thought Salt and Pepa's hair was the shiznit and yep I wore the stacks, crimps, asymmetric....all that. I also wore the earrings.

Ok don't laugh but do you remember Oaktown 357? The biking shorts and patent leather shoes, yep you guessed it, I did it. I'm so ashamed http://www.plauder-smilies.de/person/krank.gif

I had a pair of British Knights, Elleses, and Fila's.

When I was a teenager, I decided I wanted to wear my mood lipstick and eyeliner. Well I saw my sister do it so shoot I figured I knew what to do. Well I sharpened the eyeliner and got a lighter to melt the tip a little cause I saw my sister do the same. Well a sista got a little heavy handed with my artwork, but I didn't realize I had until a little later on. My mom looked at me and said, "what in the world is wrong with you?" "You look like what for, how come, and anyhow." That was her phrase for anyone looking a hot mess. I went to the mirror and I looked like I had been involved in a domestic dispute in the rain and I lost.

Okay, I tried the black eyeliner around the lips thing too! And when I look back at old pics, I'm like, what in the heezy was I thinking???
And when I was 16, I decided to get my hair cut. My Mom had been telling me that I shouldn't cut my hair, but I was too determined to do the do. Anyway, instead of going to my usual hairdresser (at the time, she was like one of those old lady stylists that could only do wraps and rollers!), I decided to go to a girl in my neighborhood who did her own hair. I mean her hair used to be laid, BUT in my naivete' didn't know that certain styles only look good if you have a certain shaped face. Well, she cut my hair to ear length (it was down my back before) and STACKED it out really high! It looked like I had on one of those "hat umbrellas" When I went home, my Mom couldn't resist her "I told you so" and I cried for 3 days! :( I had to live with it until it grew out! Needless to say, I haven't cut my hair since then, only trims for me!!! :D

Maaaaaan TE, you did not have to remind a sista.

Okay LMAO as I remember. In 1988 I had tickets to go to the S n P concert with Hammer, Today, Tony Toni Tone, and somebody else. Ok here was my outfit which I put together my self. :o I wore a white sweatshirt buttoned down the back with black stirrups. That sounds fine right?? Wrong I messed it up!! I put my black with white stripe on the side biker shorts on top of the stirrup pants and wore my WHITE LOTTOS with it!!

Second thing, back in 5th grade, our class had to perform for Ideal's 6th grade class for Christmas. THANK GOD SHE DOES NOT REMEBMER THIS. Anyway I had this big white shirt with baby blue polka dots with a blue belt on the shirt with BLACK stirrup pants. SOUNDS COOL right. WRONG!!! I am over here crying as I remember my shoes. I FOR SOME REASON in the DEAD OF WINTER was allowed to wear my YELLOW JELLY shoes. Remember those Plastic shoes!?!?!?!

Okay let me think I know I wore some more crazy stuff. Oh yeah 7th grade, dayuuuum. My mom was the QUEEN of ANTI-MALLS. We just did not shop there. Only mall clothes I had was from my granny. Anyway one weekend we were at Value City and I saw they had PONY (remember those shoes -- not NIKE but not slip 'n' slides). I bought them -- the BABY BLUE ones.

For Christmas that year I wanted Fila -- got them from MARSHALLS. Everyone kept asking where did u get those from? I used my standard line -- from outta town. :o

Y'all I swear after that no more bad fashion days.

I never had hair problems. Well there was that time with the WACK WRAP ARTIST but it was fixed by the time I went to school the next day.

I did do the Lee Press on Nails

littlelady 11-08-2001 12:30 AM

Hair-
When it comes to my hair, I don't like any major changes. When I was in high school, I decided instead of cutting my hair, that I should just color it so I could give myself a different look. The problem is that I wanted sandy brown hair with blond highlights, but my hair has red undertones. The lighter that I colored my hair, the redder it got. My senior year I tried honey blonde, but it turned to fire red/orange. My complexion is kind of coppery, so it didn't look right on me. I colored it again that same week to tone down the red, and my hair fell out. It was the worst thing ever!! I ended up having to cut it off, I shaved the back and everything. I grew it right back, so by the time I started college it was in a cut style to my jaw. Now it's back to normal. I haven't colored my hair since, not even a rinse. I barely like getting a relaxer:rolleyes:

Clothes-
The worst was this outfit that I still have nightmares about, in the seventh grade I had these black leggings with red flowers and a shirt to match, I'm cringing at the thought of it, I probably looked like a 12 year old garden. Vest are always something that I regret wearing.

I'm cracking up over here. I had several pairs of jelly's. Rocks would get stuck in the heel. And who in the hell told me those shoes were made for running. I would break the plastics on those bad boys but it was ok...for some change you could always go and get a new pair on the spot.

Let me tell yall bout my 357 outfit. I had a white Team Adidas shirt with a red and black stripe, black biking shorts, red socks, black patent leather shoes while rocking the Salt and Pepa stacks and earrings. Straight off of Yo MTV Raps with Fab 5 Freddy. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/tiere/ride.gif

I tried the black eyeliner around the lip thingy. I didn't want to be the first to say it though. I looked like a damn fool.

I also had Jam outfits. Remember those....50 million colors in a short set.

I know we got some Cross Color offenders out there.

Who wore legwarmers?

I did! I did! LOL.

BUT I was only 7 AND I only wore em in winter because I was actually cold- it seems like my 13 years in uniform saved me from some truly heinous clothing styles.

ACTUALLY I remember doing the plaid thing circa '96, when grunge was in. Had a whole lotta plaid, but didn't wear layers thankfully.

Oh and then in 8th grade there were the silver hoop earrings that were bigger than my ears.

Oh then there was the headband thing in 7th grade- I dah one that was truly HUGE- just a big ol thick headband that must have looked like a hat.

Then there was the whole orange thing- I know y'all remember when eeeeverything had to be orange, and people had those shiny jackets? I only had one t, but it was more than enough (Actually, I remember one young man in particular at a party who wore it from head to toe. He was quite dark skinned [gorgeous man, just dark chocolate, but alas far too short for my taste, lol], and when we turned the lights off it really did look like a fluorescent orange suit of clothes dancing around, lol)

And es I did the black lipliner thing too, and that is really IT!LOL

CrimsonTide4 11-08-2001 11:58 AM

I just remembered this

Remember say in the late 80s, I know i was still in junior high wearing colored socks? No not just one pair either. I remember wearing like 3 pairs of socks just so that the MAJOR colors in my outfit were represented!!  :p WTH was I thinking.

Picture it: RED, BLUE and BLACK shirt with some denim shorts, RED, BLUE and BLACK socks (that's 3 pairs of socks) with your Lottos, Nikes, Fila, Slip 'n' Slides:p , Adidas, whatever.

Steeltrap 11-08-2001 12:36 PM

I've had my share of fashion and beauty faux pas over the years:

Poofed-out sleeves on my dresses, a la Joan Collins in Dynasty. I had several of these dresses.
Dying my natural hair orange. I was mistaken for Cheryl Miller from the back when I was 18.
Weird makeup colors, such as aquamarine eye shadow and light pink lipstick. My skin color is on the light tan side, but there was no way I should have worn Estee Lauder All-Day Cinema Pink.
Polyester pants in the late 1970s, when I was in junior high school. Yup, the double-knit kind.
Socks with clear jelly shoes.
Oogly glasses.
And yes, a "jheri curl." But my sister, the cosmetologist, made sure that I NEVER had dripping activator.

MsOnyx 11-08-2001 02:13 PM

UGGHH!!

The two that come to mind are:

5th grade class pictures. I wore a blue shirt Tshirt. The problem was that it had an iron on that said 100% perfect. Why would I were that for school pix? I get on my mother for "letting" me were that. I know I didn't listen when she told me not to.

HS Graduation. I had on a very pretty white dress. Nice right. OK, I screwed up the outfit with a BIG A$$ greeg belt and a big dookie (remember that word) gold rope chain.

Back then I knew I was the woman.
Now, when I look at those pix, I wonder what in the world was I thinking

nikki25 11-08-2001 09:06 PM

Wow!

I am seriously having flashbacks over here. You all are making me think of some events from my childhood. The good thing is that I can't remember much about my gear with the exception of pictures that are present to remind me. I had too much happening in many of them. Some things you just blot out of your mind! :)

toocute 11-09-2001 02:03 PM

Whoa

Lots of salt and pepa and oaktown fans up in here!!! ya'll are taking me back and making me laugh while having a busted day at work. I'm ROFL. Thanks.

Ideal08 11-09-2001 04:47 PM

ROTFLMAO...

This is some funny isht in here, LMAO!!!

Ok, I used to not only sport leg warmers, but I also sported leotards. Did anyone else used to wear these? I wore (oh lawd, LMAO) jeans tapered at the angle, cable knit sweater, matching leg warmers, and WHITE jazz shoes!! I swear, I don't know why my mama let me pick out some of the stuff that I did. Why she even let me get those shoes? OOOOHHHH!! ROTFLMAO!!! LMAO!! I got them for a DANCE class, and kept wearing them!! ROTFLMAO!!

Biker shorts: Ok, when I was younger, I was SKINNY. I had turquoise (that was my FAVORITE color, I still kinda like it, lol) biker shorts with a white stripe down the side. My father told me not to get them. They weren't tight. :( I got cracked on BIG TIME. Only wore those once, lol.

Black lipliner: I use this today. I don't think anyone knows, cuz you can't see it. I use it to darken my lipstick a little. Now, the actual line that you can see, I never did that mess. I ALWAYS thought chicks looked like some hot mess like that. What I REALLY hated though, was girls who would use it and only have vaseline on their lips. WTF?

Posner: Cheap @$$ Black people make up. Bad, bad, bad. I used to wear this purple-ish color when I was in 9th grade. I don't even really know what to say about that now, lol. But I look at pics from back in the day, hot mess, I'm tellin you.

Hair: Oh my goodness, I could write a book. Jheri Curl. Bad idea, but who's tellin' Mommy no? After the curl, to rebel against her, I just stopped doin' my hair. I couldn't explain that to people at school (7th grade) I just simply got cracked on, ALL YEAR. People still have the yearbooks. I'm like, please don't bring that up, lol. I looked like a crack fiend. and I'm NOT playin, lol. :o

Colored socks. OH!! Me and CT4 were the QUEENS of matching our socks. And we would mismatch them!! LMAO!! Like on the left foot, we'd put the blue sock on first, then the yellow sock. And on the right foot, we'd put the yellow on first, then the blue. Hot mess, in deed!!!

Dickies: I dont' know who invented this ignorant mess. My mother used to make me wear them. BUT, my sweaters would stretch out along the neck line, and you could see it was a Dickie. Now, I saw them selling SETS on the shopping network a few weeks ago. I said, damn, they STILL makin' those??? Just wear a real turtleneck.

Knickers: I know I'm not the only one who wore these. My mother made me, lol, and I HATED them. Picture it: Brown corduroy (sp?) vest, brown corduroy (that is a funny word, lol) knickers with belt-like thingies at the knee, yellow silky poofy arm shirt, yellow knee socks or tights, and I can't remember the shoes. I cried every time they would lay this out for me to wear. No, I wasn't allowed to pick out my own clothes. This was in elementary.

Accessories: I had a pair of earrings for EVERY outfit I owned, all different colors, so I could match. I was MISS Claire's Boutique!! Me and CT4 would go to the mall and spend all our money (10 whole dollars, lol) in there on STUPID stuff, LMAO: NKOTB buttons, key chains, nail polish, and most importantly, EARRINGS. I don't wear colored earrings at all now, unless they are black. What about the BIG belts that buckled in the back? LMAO!! Or the jelly bracelets that we collected?! Could wear them up and down your arm. We made jump ropes out of them, too.

What about the Gazelle glasses? I didn't wear that mess, but my sister used to ROCK them!! LMAO!!

Polka dots... Kwame got us started on that crazy mess. Lookin' STR8 jacked, lol.

man, I could go on and on, LOL

OOOOOOO my momma made me wear them thangs. I used to hate them. The only one I liked was my white one because I wore it with this deep turquoise, white and burgundy striped sweater, white leggings, and burgundy slip ons and Jermaine told Denise that he liked me in that outfit and I was :D :D . I know why too because while skinny I was still oh so bootylicious. :p

I'm laughing so hard over here :D Why can I relate? Let me tell about my leotards. Remember the S n P video "Everybody Get Up?" Well if you don't S n P had tore up jeans with leotards underneath. Why did I let those videos influence my junior high years?

Posner-----I did that too. I had that cheap a$$ fuschia lipstick.

Knickers-------Awwww Lawwwwdddd----I had a pair of green ones and burgundy corduroy ones along with the knee socks.
I know I had more than two pair, but I think I have a mental block due to the corduroy abuse.

My friends and I would trade jelly bracelets.

Don't laugh but I also rocked the Buster Browns faithfully. I cried when my mom bought me some brown suede Buster Browns. I wasn't allowed to pick my clothes either. I didn't have any name brand tennis shoes until 6th grade because I was rocking the Buster Browns in every doggone style imaginable every day of my life

In the winter you better believe I had turtlenecks, corduroy pants, and BUSTER BROWNS. Not everyday, but dang it seemed like it.

Sugar_N_Spice 11-10-2001 10:18 PM

WOW...

Unfortunately, I have to admit I wore the following:

*Colored slouch socks, a la CT4's post (except that i would wear "Red-White-Blue" on one leg, and "White-Blue-Red" on the other leg!!)
*White slouch socks, but I would wear like 3 pairs, thinking that would make my skinny legs look thicker...
*Biker shorts, w/ the Bright a$$ neon pink stripe on the side :o (I also had the ones w/ the green stripe--NO--this has nothing to do w/ AKA--I didn't even know what it was way back then!! LOL, but it is a coincidence in retrospect, huh?!)
*Those "silk-like" flower print sundresses--I wore them with plain black biker shorts (the ones that had the lace in the ends)
*Cross Colours (Remember those?!)
*Holey Jeans (in High School)
*Plaid skirts w/ ankle boots (the ones w/ the "wood-looking" heel) (this--and everything else below--was in Junior High)
*Shorts that go down past your knees, in colors like neon orange and bright yellow
*Keds--in every color of the rainbow (Need I say more)
*Guess Overalls (also in bright colors--I guess bright colors was my thing back in the day...)

That's all I can think of for now, although I'm sure I am missing a bunch... :o

skeeliteful 11-11-2001 01:03 PM

Okay...my fashion mistakes...

1. the cross color shorts in every color you could think of

2. remember when jodeci and tlc came out and everybody was wearing combat boots? okay...imagine those WITH the cross color shorts

3. i had the stacked salt and pepa hair. my hairdresser cut my hair like that by mistake (YES SHE DID!) and i had to live like that for the rest of the 7th grade.

4. yes...wet'n wild lipstick AND black lip liner brings back horrid memories

5. HAMMER PANTS.....i'll leave that to your imagination

6. i got on my mother's nerves until i got me a pair of patent leather shoes like Oaktown 357....i had to have 'em

7. and personally, weave is not my thing... BUT, for my debutante ball...my mom was so excited and she wanted her baby girl to look diva. i wanted a simple hair style. BUT NOOOOO! mom's saw a picture of a spiral curled ponytail with pin curls around it that looked really cute in the picture. hair dresser got carried away and....i had a hard time keeping my head straight that night. it was cute then....but i look at it now and i'm like.....did i do that (in my best urkel impression)

LMAO!!!! You made me remember my make-up mishaps...

*I used to wear Black Liquid Eyeliner when I was in the 10th grade!!! It was cute and all, but not on a 15 year-old, going to school :o I looked like I was ready for Halloween in April!!!

*I also used to wear colored mascara (my favorite was electric blue)...

*To much of my dismay, I also used to wear "doo-doo" colored (really dark brown) lipstick (like Foxy Brown wears now)...I call it "doo-doo" colored b/c my Mom told me one time that I "looked like I had smeared S#%t on my lips"!!!

Never Again...

I did most of the things that everyone here has done.....

Here are some additional things that made me say, "Oh NO I DIDN'T!!!"

***Junior and Senior Year of High School, I had that haircut where the front of your hair was cut short, and the back was long. Looking back, that was an ugly hairstyle. If I didn't get my hair done over the weekend, I used to have to wear the front straight, since I wasn't trying to have my hair look like I curled it myself.

***Overalls, with one strap unbuckled. That was NOT cute.

***Wearing my clothes baggy, and backwards, a la Kriss Kross. Oh Hell No I didn't.

***Bright colored suede Etonics. WTF??? I had them in almost every color (red, green, orange, black, white...etc etc) to match my cross colours stuff

***Wearing like 30 bangles on one arm. That looked so bad. Can't believe I did it.

That's all I can think of now....

There's soo many beauty faux pas that I've been caught in....

I definitely have to make out the list...

1. I used to wear leg warmers
2. I used to wear them damn Hammer pants and thought I was cool
3. I owned a Cross Colours shirt that was XXL and it said "MO BIG" on the front with huge green letters (I thought I was cool when I had it b/c I was the only one with it in my HS, until I found out that one of my female neighbors had the same shirt)
4. I wore my overalls with one strap hanging
5. In JHS, I had a pair of jeans with the knees cut out
6. I had those nasty @$$ patent leather shoes
7. I own a pair of Fila sneakers that I only wear when I empty the garbage or do laundry  (I have since thrown them thangs away!!!)
8. Wearing foundation that was too light for my face and I had acne
9. Using toothpaste to try to get rid of the damn acne [I'm glad I stopped with the quickness (remember that??) b/c it burned like hell!! )

That's all I can think of for now.

I am at work dying as I reread this thread. . .

When I was in middle school, I was into the "thug" look, but didn't know exactly how to pull off the look.

I was into the flannel shirts, baggy and sagging jeans, big gold jewelry, one braid on each side of my head with pony tail in the back, etc. Around christmas time, I would wear this oversized red flannel shirt with GREEN baggy jeans, a 5$ gold chain with a gold troll charm hanging from it, and black reebok running shoes a size or two larger. Another one of my favorite outfits was ALL PURPLE, purple hair pieces, purple shirt, purple pants, purple socks, purple shoes. I thought I was the bomb.

 :o

HOT MESS

My sister was in going to beauty school at the time and here it is....

FIRE ENGINE RED HAIR...what was suppose to be red streaks turned into a head full of FIRE ENGINE RED HAIR ( had to wear this for a few weeks to a month..)

The fix to the FIRE ENGINE RED turned PEACH then I just went black.

I had the Salt N Pepa asymetrical style then I had the nerve to "enhance" it my using black gel on the sides ***visual please** coming the sides down and then inserting lines to the back to look like had lines on the side....HORRID MESS***

*Shoes...Black Patent Leather b.k.a. Imitation Stacy Adams and then we got these big Ribbons shoe laces to put in them...NOT CUTE.

Ugly sweater...if there was a ugly sweater best to believe my mom was going to pick it for me in grade school...just grade school.

Make up Mishap....My mom was a Mary Kay Rep and she always did the shows and made up people....**visual** I decided to make myself up (in 7th Grade) with blush, eye shadow, fire red lipstick, mascara, scary mary eyeliner and the whole nine yards...needless to say I went to Private School looking like Rainbow Bright....HORRID HORRID mess.... I think the teacher made me go wash my face.

Honeykiss1974 01-06-2004 02:30 PM

*le sigh*

1. I had a pair of HAMMER PANTS too! *lol* They were navy blue with white polka dots.

2. What are Hammer pants without the BLACK PATENT LEATHER SHOES! Yep, with the wide ribbon laces too.

3. Hairwise, I wanted to be Janet (during the "Control" video era). I would braide my hair at night and put this mixture of Pink Oil and Wave Neavou in order to get the crimpy waves

4. Since I though I was Janet *lol* I also wore the hoop earring with a key dangling from one of them!

5. Door knocker earrings - including the ones with your zodiac sign on them.

6. Trying to cut my own bangs! They usually were so short that they looked like baby hair gone astray!!

7. Acid wash jeans or jeans with big 'ol bleach spots on them. With the hole at the knee of course

If this is a womens-only thread, you can delete it.

I am only posting this b/c I recall all the fun you had with the pompadour-mullet thing, it was time for a "Return of the Mullet" type post.

Believe it or not, most of my fashion goofs were in high school; in college my casual wear was primarily Polo, Tommy, Guess, and Nautica--and the whole outfit had to be of that one designer, so to that regard, I fit in pretty well.

But in high school, hmm, lemme see...

I wore some weird colors, like a dusty rose button down shirt with dusty rose pants, a black tie and a cardigan sweater.

I wore suits, dress shirts and pants, and ties a LOT in high school.
My freshman year in high school, we were performing for a Christmas concert, and I had a turquoise blue button down shirt, matching pants, and a dark green and black bow tie.

My first day of school my freshman year (1987) was a bright yellow button down shirt, beige pants, deep brown dress loafers and a navy blue Marty McFly vest jacket.

I also wore (sophomore year) a cream double breasted jacket with a baby blue and white striped shirt, a cream tie w/green speckles on it and light green slacks or with royal blue pants with "jazzy" Oxfords. Note: if I wore the royal blue pants I had a matching royal blue tie with a white shirt with royal blue stripes.

Or a gray and black striped shirt with a pencil-thin tie that 80s metal bands would wear with black slack and a slightly-oversized black blazer.

Hairwise it was either a TWA or a low cut or somewhere in between. Essentially I would let the low cut grow into a TWA and then have it cut and start over again. I had a box ONCE during the fall of '89 (junior year) and I HATED it. I had a slope once during the summer of '90 and never again. My first perm was on November 27, 1990 and I was never the same again, needless to say.

I did have some college clothing oopses, however, such as...

-My sophomore year I bought a deep brown 60s-esque suit (three button w/thin lapels) with a thin diagonal-striped brown and gold tie which I wore with my trademark black Oxfords. Folk said it looked like a "civil rights" suit or that I looked like Mr. Mooney from "The Lucy Show". Strangely I wore it up until about 2000 thereafter I retired it.

I also wore another "civil-rights" suit; forest green with a thin turquoise blue and black diagonal-striped tie with my Oxfords. I wore that at a Delta anniversary ball at OU in '93.

What about the double breasted teen suits with the really short jackets that were all the rage back in '89-92(?). I had a gray double breasted one I wore to a '94 Delta Ball and have a pic of and a black one which was actually single breasted but had multiple buttons like it was double breasted. I often wore it with as if it was a tuxedo with tux shirts, black bow tie and cummerbund to quite a few Black Greek balls/gals. I retired it only b/c my ex-wife HATED it and demanded that I get rid of it.

Oh, and I love (and still do) airline pilot and naval officer jackets. At one dance I wore a airline captain jacket with a white shirt, red tie, khakis, and pennyloafers. At another I wore a black Navy Ensign jacket (double breasted with a gold stripe on the lower sleeve) with a white shirt, black tie, white pants and white shirt with a skipper cap to set it off.

I still wear the jacket at weddings with black slacks, a very fancy white dress shirt and black vest. The women shower me w/compliments on the jacket.

Anyhow, more later, maybe...

Intriguing, nice word to use. ;) And to think we all thought it was just the mullet.

Oh, I almost forgot (and I have a portrait pic of this)

Here is one that blows the rest outta the water:

In 1993 I wore a lavender silk suit with a black tuxedo shirt and either a lavender tuxedo-style bow tie OR a black silk tie with thin white swirls on it. I have a portrait pics of me in this that the girl I'm dating insists that I give her one of b/c she says she LOVES the pic.

I was gonna wear it to a First Fridays in 1999, but my brother talked me out of it, saying that I looked like an 80s R&B/rock star.

Except for the portrait and a Tom Joyner Old School Costume contest in 2001, it has never been worn and has since been retired.
