What if sorority recruitment were run like the NFL Draft?
Last night my friend and I pondered the hilarity that could ensue if sorority recruitment were run like the NFL draft.
A combine to assess membership potential Draft in order of lowest relative recruiting strength to highest Draft according to (exec) position/talent needs Draft for a set number of rounds and then have a pool of undrafted free agents Might be a little tough on self-esteem, but hey, it would drive home the point that it's an honor to join any chapter! Not serious of course. |
You know, this could actually help weaker chapters since they'd have first pick!
|
Your sports analogy made me think of this thread. (Yes, I am an attention whore bumping my own thread, but I honestly had forgotten I was the one who started it.)
http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...all#post369141 But quite frankly, I think that rush is more like the NFL draft than we suspect. Such as things like pledging the homely girl because she plays piano and you need someone in the sorority to do that at Greek Sing. |
Will they be able to swap picks and all that stuff?
|
That is hilarious... talk about leveling the playing field. Imagine the anticipation as recruitment registrations begin to pour in over the summer and chapters assess their needs, gaps and strategy for the upcoming draft.
Who will go in the first round? Which "team" will trade a first round pick for players to be named later? What "signing bonus" will entice those elite first round draftees to accept the bid.... premier laundry privileges? deluxe single room? reserved cabana on the sun deck? Stay tuned for all the action! |

And no, I cannot say for sure what happened outside of my chapter, but that stuff gets around. |
"We can guarantee you an exec position by your sophomore year."

Not a good idea.
Do sororities need ANY more members who are over 220 pounds?!?! |
I'm picturing it.
"With the first pick in the 2010 Big Southern University recruitment draft, Kappa Kappa Gamma selects Suzie Jones!" *cue excited shouts from Suzie's table where her Kappa mom, grandma, sister, and aunts are both sitting.* *goes up on stage and holds up sorority jersey for draft photo with Chapter President.* |
I LOVE this thread!! I just started fantasy football. I think as serving on the recruitment committee and VP Recruitment, my mind has always worked like this while looking at the PNM's profiles.
This would make an excellent YouTube video. Hmm... It may be happening. |
I'm picturing what the scouting combine would be like!
I'm laughing out loud at the thought of sorority recruiters waiting with baited breath to see if high school senior Becky Thomas is entering the draft this fall or staying independent and trying out for cheerleading. LOL @ a Becky Thomas "Decision" special on TV. Too soon, Cleveland fans? lol. |
This is hilarious! Greek Week is a big deal at my campus, and we joked about recruiting girls for based on our Powderpuff Team.
|
This is hilarious. I keep writing and deleting because I instantly went into analysis mode of how this could work, where the pitfalls would be. It's 9:36 AM, and I already need to turn my brain off!
|
I wonder if then you could trade draft picks??

Love this thread! Thanks for the laugh!
I'm imagining commentators at Greek events saying stuff like, "You know, XYZ's decision to pick up Suzie Jones was one of their best this season. She's been a great addition to their tug-o-war team." |
With 2 seconds left on the clock, Chi Omega has elected to make a trade.
Looks like they're going to trade 2 junior transfers Kelly and Katie Harrison to Delta Zeta for freshman Homecoming Princess Jane Johnson. Kelly and Katie both have honor roll GPAs, and are active in Student Gov't and will make great additions to DZs Exec Board. Jane is a rookie and has the potential to take Chi Omega all the way in the Big Southern University Homecoming Pageant by senior year. She is also has tremedous depth. Her little sister and cousin will also be attending Big Southern next year and the red and gold want to put themselves in a position to build on Jane's legacy. |

Not if there is a weight limit per team. When I was in school, the tug team could be any number of girls, but not to exceed 1200 pounds. We jumped on an animal scale together and weighed in. I wish we had camera phones back then because it was quite a sight. |

Just because I thought about this when I saw draft stuff on Sportcenter.

Sororities have actually used football jerseys as bid day shirts. They were done in the sorority colors with the sorority name on the front and each class had their year as the number on the back. |
Bumping for the fun factor.
|
This was hilarious and needs a bump for football season.
|
This would be so AWESOME!
|
Because it's not recruitment season without this.
|
I find this extra ironic since I work for the NFL.
Now, when I get drafted, please don't put the ball cap on my head when I get to the podium. It will mess up my hair! And who will I bearhug instead of Roger Goodell? |

My sick sense of humor just kicked in...
This would put whole new meaning into the phrase: "She - Could - Go - All - The - WAY!" |
If someone wants to write a story treatment, I'll submit the idea to creative types I know to see if they want to run with it.
